Hi there, I wanted to know if I can use my SAMYANG 14mm f/2.8 lens with CRANE M3, and what would be the best settings for vlogging with this lens, thank You.
So do you think it will still balance it well if I add to the ZVE-10 and the Sigma 16mm, a Rode VideoMic Go II and a variable ND filter?, because that's the vlogging set I'm planning for that gimbal. Keep up the great content man!
The standard quick release plate is unfortunately not usable for the Sony ZV-E10, because it still covers the battery compartment of the camera even when detached from the gimbal. Since the ZV-E10 uses quite small batteries, they have to be changed frequently, which means that the part of the quick release plate that is mounted on the camera has to be removed each time, which also means that the camera has to be re-balanced each time after changing the battery. Zhiyun therefore offers camera-specific quick release plates for the Crane M3, where the part mounted on the camera is smaller and no longer covers the battery compartment. This means that only with these quick-release plates, the battery of the ZV-E10 can be replaced without having to rebalance the gimbal afterwards. Here in Europe (Austria), I have not yet found a dealer who can supply the appropriate quick-release-plate for the ZV-E10 at this time. Many dealers don't even know what you mean when you ask for it.
Other reviewers have shown that there are quick release plates designed for specific camera models including ZVE10. They have also stated that there will be a quick release plate that will not block ANY camera battery door. It should be included in the first place.
I love your channel! I bought a ZV-E10 , Crane M-3 and just ordered a Samyang 12 mm F2 AF lens (213 gr.!) for talking/walking head vlogging because of your channel!
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I have a Sony 16-55 G that weighs in around 494 gr. I did try it on the M3 (couldn't get one of the balancing points to balance) but ran the calibration anyways and it succeeded. Do you think it is ok to use that lense?
Great review, thank you! Subscribed! I found Brandon Li's channel thanks to you suggesting him in one of your comments. He did a video on the M3, and he was using it with no camera/lens stabilization and then doing a 3-5% crop in Catalyst for his desired result. Also, he was using lower shutter speeds (eg. 1/50 or 1/60) even with using Catalyst - since the M3 reduces the majority of the motion blur, a higher shutter speed isn't necessary according to Brandon. I can't wait to try these shooting options out with the M3 & ZV E-10 and see which ones perform best for me. What's your currently preferred method? 1) Gimbal, No camera stabilization, Catalyst in post (Brandon Li's recommendation) 2) Gimbal, OSS lens Standard stabilization 3) Gimbal, Active stabilization 4) #1 with 1/50 or 1/60 or 1/200 shutter speeds
Hi Mark, I'd like to share one thing with you. The bleading Crane M3 mount plate carrying my Sony ZVe10 jumped off the gimble (twice) and damaged my objective. Have you ever heard about this issue? It kills all the trust I had in Zhiyum.
I've had a nightmare day trying together the zv e10 to work with the scorp mini, it shakes in certain positions and the motor speed has to be low. Tried with and without small rig cage. Hi Mark. Do you think this gimbal can handle the ZV-E10 with the Sony 18-105mm? I’m looking to buy that lens to zoom in without adjusting the gimbal on each focal length. Btw, do you have a video on this lens? Thanks!
I've been thinking about getting this for my Sony a7IV and using the Zeiss 35mm 1.4 Distagon with it. My hold back is I'm not sure it will work with it or not. I'm concerned the eye piece will hit and it will be too limited in movement. Do you happen to know if it will work okay?
The 35 1.4 is not on the approved list of full range of motion - so I think the eye piece would hit. Check in the description of the lenses that go with the A7S3 (the A7Iv) is not in the list because it's too recent.
Hi Mark! Great video. Could you please indicate if there will be no problems with stabilizing Crane M3 with Sony ZV-E10 + Sony Kit Lens (16-50 mm) and Sony E 10-18 mm?
No, the ZV-E10 can’t be controlled in any way by the gimbal as of right now. It can provide external power but that’s it. When Zhiyun sell the Bluetooth attachment, there will be more functionality for some cameras, but we’ll have to wait and see.
This gimbal doesn’t support the zv-e10 except for charging. And even gimbals that do support it - you lose your face and eye detect autofocus just to use the start and stop. So I find it best to leave Dougie not connected to a gimbal
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis is good to know. One problem I had with the M2 was shaking footage when pressing that button. The M3 feels more solid anyway. I just bought it . I like how well it balances my Sigma 16mm . The motors are stronger - I think it's worth the upgrade. M2 always gave me problems with these lenses.
Hi, do you have same issue on portrait mode? it turns off after 1-2 on my smartphone, it just can't hold longer. My smartphone keeps a good balance horizontally.
I have the ZV-E10 and Sigma 16mm 1.4 balanced in terms of the sliders, and then autocalibration on top. It drifts. Is it the settings and mode I hve it on?
Mark, does crane m3 can control zv-e10 by provided usb-c cable? I bought this setup and cant make it work (the record button on gimbal does not work - it wor with sony a6400 though)
No, the only thing that you can do with the ZV-E10 is charge it which is good that you won’t need to change the battery while connected - but that’s all you get. But don’t feel bad, anytime you connect anything to the zv-e10 using pc remote (which is what you need to do), you’ll lose face and eye detect autofocus. So even if you could control start and stop, it wouldn’t be worth it. I almost never connect my gimbals to my cameras. Just extra cords and very little functionality.
Hi Mark, can the zve10 be operated from the gimbal (at least hit record and stop) with the Sigma 56mm f/1.4? Also, I don't see the kit lense on the compatibility list.
no, the gimbal can only charge the zv-e10. even if it could operate the camera in any way, I wouldn’t connect it, because when you do connect externally with the zv-e10 you will lose you eye and face detect autofocus and it switched to a centre zone autofocus
1:50 what lens is that? You said it's the Sigma 16mm 1.4 but it doesn't look like it. Unless there's a new version of that lens with a button at the side? thank you!
No that’s the Sony 85 1.8. I just had it there for demonstration purposes. I just grabbed the closet lens!! I said that the footage I shot was on the Sigma.
Awesome review as always👍 Now there is a gimbal on my list too. Thankfully I don't need it until summer. So I guess I'm good. Yours is the most expensive channel on YT at the moment😃
as long and the camera and lens combo balances well and isn’t crazy heavy, you should be fine. but to have full range of motion (undersling mode, vortex) you’ll want to stick to the camera and lens combos Zhiyun has approved.
My M3 isn't charging my Sony ZV 1. I have the correct cable connecting the camera to the M3. I can start and stop recording using the M3, but for some reason, the M3 is not charging the camera. Must be a settings issue? I've tried a couple of different settings, but no luck yet. Suggestions? We are going to Europe soon and I'd like the gimbal charging the camera so I don't have to change batteries every half hour.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thanks 👍 only small problems with Sigma 16mm and sigma 18-50 sometimes. Also Zv-e10. But overall I like M2 so not thinking to upgrade. M3 features I don't need, except the extra power and weight it can handle.
@@MasoodJamal ok. Here is my setup: Zv-e10 + 60grams microphone+ Samyang 12mm with nd filter - absolutely no problem with m2. Best lenses for vlogging. Really love this combination. Also I use this gymbal with Sigma 16, 18-50 but with minor problems like crashing sometimes. Sigma 56mm also without problems because is light.
Regarding battery, you don't have to unscrew it totally, just a little to be able to move the camera and after removing the battery becomes extremely easy.
Mark my man do you get a lot of jitters when holding it with one hand walking with the zv e10 and the sigmas 30mm and 16mm also does the quick release plate really work (do u use the zv e10 plate)taking it on and off without adjusting it
I just have the standard plate that came with it. I don’t get jitter, but you still need to walk carefully to optimize the gimbal - the popular ninja walk that all gimbal people use. check you balance and make sure it’s good and then, of course, press the auto calibration every time before you start.
did you get the remote function running with the m3 and the zv-e10? the USB cable wont work for me (unrecognized USB cable) and the bluetooth part only seems to work with the m3 extension ...
There is no functionality with the included cable except for charging the battery. On other cameras, it is only start and stop. Hopefully they'll add more later. I know they plan to sell a bluetooth attachment that will add features to many cameras.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis dang it! their site/supported devices doesnt mentions the zv-1 so i was hoping this workes for the zv-e10 as well. thx for the answer btw ;)
Would this work for a rigged out ZV-E10 with Sigma 16mm and a Hollyland 300 Pro? I’d like to have a wireless camera on a gimble to send to an ATEM for a live show.
Hi Mark I enjoy your reviews. You make that glass of apple (beer) juice last a long time. I bought a Sony 18-135 lens and I am waiting on the ZV-10. I like to purchase this GImble but can't find it on the list. Can you tell me if this Gimble is suitable?
it depends on the camera, but there’s not much control on the sony’s. the zv-e10 has no control. I don’t connect my cameras to my gimbals anyway (especially because the zv-e10 and a7iii will lose eye and face detect autofocus of connected)
Just picked up the Crane M3. First gimbal, so not much to compare.... but the main issue I currently see is that there is no control of the camera using the gimbal. Guess it has to be done through the Bluetooth module.
Most gimbals aren’t great at controlling the camera really. not too much functionality. plus, on a lot of the Sonys, you lose face and eye d’état to when connected by a cable to a gimbal. I always just use my gimbals to steady the footage - plus, I don’t have to plug in extra cords.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis and another thing I don't get is why not just Bluetooth control without an additional USB receiver. The ZV-E10 already has BT. Sony and Smallrig make a handle with controls on it that just pairs to the camera.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis i am using Fuji XT 30 & 10-24 lens and sheniser mke 440 on top of it please suggest me best gimbal for this setup also light weight
you can use it with the galaxy and go pro, but not the eosr with the 24-70. the 24-70 is too long so you won’t be able to balance properly you could probably still use it, but you won’t have full range of motion. in the description of the video there is a link to compatible lenses and cameras
Hey Mark, currently torn between Sony ZV-E10 and Fujifilm XS-10 for my first "professional" camera, I am a marketer who are focusing on product photography, while also planning to make TH-cam content (mostly cafes and restaurant vlogs). I already researched for both cameras, choosing Fujifilm I got the IBIS and the Color Science of Fujifilm (JPEG), but cost more in my country, choosing ZV-E10 I will get the Sony's leading autofocus technology for vlog and videography, "infinite" record limit, and combined with Zhiyun Crane M3 will be a perfect combo in my opinion with the same price as Fujifilm XS-10 Body Only. the real consideration here is the budget, with the price of Fujifilm XS-10 Body only, I can purchase Sony ZV-E10 + Kit lens with a Gimbal. however, ZV-E10 has big issues in rolling shutter and cropped 4K 30p
It’s a tough call - the Fuji autofocus doesn’t seem to be very reliable, but it’s a great camera. If you need a camera soon, the decision may be made for you. The ZV-E10 has stopped production because of chip shortages so you likely won’t be able to find one.
I always hated gimbals of any kind but they got much smaller and better then they use to be. Last time i used gimbal was in 2016. That huge two handle one. name is Ronin something. Costed like very nice camera at that time. Thats why i love those small 8 bit cameras like zve10 . I use a6300 and quality is not that much different compared with Red 6k from that time. If it is not for better glass (that cost 5k each and all manual) i think that you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. And rolling shutter can be bitch with these little Sonys. I hope that sensor tech from A1 trickle down soon.
Awesome!! Thank you for sharing!! I have one on the way....... I have a question; Will harm come to the motors if the power is accidently turned on when in the locked storage position? Thanks again! 👍
What a really cool review. Funny too. I have a Canon M50 & I bought a FeiyuTech G6 plus. However I'm finding it a bit of a pain to set up all the time so I end up not using it. I'm motovlogging on a motorcycle so need things small & quick to set up. To put a new battery in mine means a re ballance which is a pain. I cant see the tiny little screen on it either. So I'm thinking about the M3. I'm guessing it would be ok with a rode mic on top with a kit lense? I'm going to Austria next weekend to European Bike Week so want to get sorted ASAP. Any advice would be awesome.
The motors are plenty strong for that setup, you still might have to take the quick release plate off to change the battery, but as long as you put it back in a similar spot, you shouldn’t have to rebalance.
Hi mark, what an interesting video you have! I am wondering whether this gimbal will hold canon eos m50 + sigma 16 mm f1.4? Will the viewfinder hit the rear gimbal if I take the low angle? Thanks in advance!
It’s not on their approved list for canon, so I can’t be sure. I know the motors would have no trouble holding the weight, but I don’t know about the viewfinder clearance.
You cannot control the zv-e10 with the record button - it’s not compatible. Really, it’s for the best, because if you connect the zv-e10 to be controlled though UsB-C you will lost you’re face and eye detect autofocus. I just use gimbals to stabilize my zv-e10 and I don’t connect it (except maybe to charge the battery
If it’s the Sony 11 with the zv-e10 - you can use either. The m3 is a better gimbal overall, but the M2S Will works great with that zv-e10 and 11mm combo and it’s smaller, lighter and cheaper.

Here in Europe (Austria), I have not yet found a dealer who can supply the appropriate quick-release-plate for the ZV-E10 at this time. Many dealers don't even know what you mean when you ask for it.
The Crane M3 comes with a cord that can provide power to the ZV-E10 through USB-C. You can power it for hours
Other reviewers have shown that there are quick release plates designed for specific camera models including ZVE10. They have also stated that there will be a quick release plate that will not block ANY camera battery door. It should be included in the first place.
@@gigihanmandarin Exactly. It's just a question of availability. Here in Europe, it doesn't seem to have arrived yet.

I love your channel! I bought a ZV-E10 , Crane M-3 and just ordered a Samyang 12 mm F2 AF lens (213 gr.!) for talking/walking head vlogging because of your channel!
That’s a great setup - you’re going to love it. 👍
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I have a Sony 16-55 G that weighs in around 494 gr. I did try it on the M3 (couldn't get one of the balancing points to balance) but ran the calibration anyways and it succeeded. Do you think it is ok to use that lense?

Hey Mark, watching your channel's ads right now. Thanks for this gimbal video.
Not all hero’s wear capes - you’re a good man 👍
Great review, thank you!
1) Gimbal, No camera stabilization, Catalyst in post (Brandon Li's recommendation)
2) Gimbal, OSS lens Standard stabilization
3) Gimbal, Active stabilization
4) #1 with 1/50 or 1/60 or 1/200 shutter speeds
Gotta go with Brandon!!
I enjoy to watch your reviews because of your comments... man!!! You make me laugh to tears...

Would this work with the screen flipped open on the zve10? Or what do I need thar would work well with zve10, cage and open screen please sir? Im a vlogging noob and need to see what I am filming in selfie mode.

No, the ZV-E10 can’t be controlled in any way by the gimbal as of right now. It can provide external power but that’s it. When Zhiyun sell the Bluetooth attachment, there will be more functionality for some cameras, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Worried if I get the gimbal that she will put my short and curlies at risk. That small form factor is impressive.
How do you pair Gimble with a little Dougie to use the record stop button?
This gimbal doesn’t support the zv-e10 except for charging. And even gimbals that do support it - you lose your face and eye detect autofocus just to use the start and stop. So I find it best to leave Dougie not connected to a gimbal

Hi Mark, for the talking head portion of this video did you use the Sony ZV-E10? Which portions used the A7III? Thanks!
The talking head was my trusty gh5. The outside shots were the zv-e10 except of the ones labelled a7iii.
Hi! Did you manage to control the zv-e10 camera start / stop recording with the type c to type c cable? For me it's not working .
No - it doesn’t work with the zv-e10. The start and stop works with some Sony cameras, but not the zv-e10

I have the ZV-E10 and Sigma 16mm 1.4 balanced in terms of the sliders, and then autocalibration on top. It drifts. Is it the settings and mode I hve it on?
You probably have it on PF (pan follow) - switch it to L (locked) if you don't want it to move when you move.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thnks for the answer. I wasn’t aware of that. Peace
Will it function with the sony a7 iii with the Sony FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS?
1:50 what lens is that? You said it's the Sigma 16mm 1.4 but it doesn't look like it. Unless there's a new version of that lens with a button at the side? thank you!

it cannot be controlled from the gimbal, no. only charged
Hi there, what could be the limitations of using it in non supported cameras, such as 90d canon? Thanks in advance
as long and the camera and lens combo balances well and isn’t crazy heavy, you should be fine. but to have full range of motion (undersling mode, vortex) you’ll want to stick to the camera and lens combos Zhiyun has approved.
Hey Mark! it would be nice a comparison with the M2. I have M2 and I'm wondering if it is worth the upgrade.
The M2 is super compact, and if it’s holding your current setup - no need to change. 👍
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thanks 👍 only small problems with Sigma 16mm and sigma 18-50 sometimes. Also Zv-e10. But overall I like M2 so not thinking to upgrade. M3 features I don't need, except the extra power and weight it can handle.

I just have the standard plate that came with it. I can’t be sure but the motors are really strong. I have a couple of gimbal reviews for heavier setups coming in the next couple of weeks.
Does camera control only come from the bluetooth module? or can it be controlled through usbc
it depends on the camera, but there’s not much control on the sony’s. the zv-e10 has no control. I don’t connect my cameras to my gimbals anyway (especially because the zv-e10 and a7iii will lose eye and face detect autofocus of connected)
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Gotcha! Thank you!
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis yeah its not a huge loss. But a simple start/stop record would be nice.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis and another thing I don't get is why not just Bluetooth control without an additional USB receiver. The ZV-E10 already has BT. Sony and Smallrig make a handle with controls on it that just pairs to the camera.

you can use it with the galaxy and go pro, but not the eosr with the 24-70. the 24-70 is too long so you won’t be able to balance properly you could probably still use it, but you won’t have full range of motion. in the description of the video there is a link to compatible lenses and cameras

Nice Mark! I had just bought a Ronin SC for half price a month or so ago. I will keep this in mind as time goes on.

@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I hope you didn't pay too much. Was just now on concert filming something and seen few guys with those little gimbals.
I don’t think it will damage them - I’ve done it a few times and it freaks out and starts beeping. I would try not to do it too often 🤣🤣

Hi there, is there a way of starting recording and stopping a recording from the gimbal without touching the Sony zv-e10 once on the gimbal ? 😅
no, you can’t do this from the gimbal - even if you could, you would lose eye detect autofocus because of the way the ZV-E10 works
Mark, can M3 do the vertical mode as scorp series ?
