This was the first SLR I ever owned. It was a great introductory camera and I used it until I had to get a camera with manual settings for a photography class I was taking.
When I was stationed at Ft. Hood, TX. I bought this camer in the PX/Afees store on base. I used it throughout My enlistment, including in Germany. It is now 2015. I will be using at Stewart Air Base this weekend at the N.Y. Air Show. Look forward to using rather than the new technology. First time in over 10 years.
Hello, yes, when you take the lens out of AUTO, the camera defaults to 1/60th sec shutter. That is the only manual shutter speed besides Auto. Yes, you can manually change the ISO while shooting.
So the one that I have according to the manual there is a little tab on the left side that if you pull it out that's where you're remote trigger goes in
I think someone needs to make a hybrid camera, one with film and digital. That way you can have a screen to see your photo from the film and then save them to an SD card. I know that sounds impossible but if Polaroid made the Z340 Instant Digital Camera, it could be plausible.
Google "Butkus Camera Manuals" and find the T50 manual to help you with lens removal. You can use any Canon FD lens with this camera (also FD lenses made by Vivitar, etc.)
Awesome review, I have recently bought this camera and was wondering about how to know when the film was finished and any specifics on how to wind it in, so this answered my question perfectly!
Just bought one of these in pretty good condition including the flash and case at a yard sale for $5! I couldn't believe it, I kept asking the lady if she was sure and all she would do is laugh and say "you're so sweet"
So just to clarify with the T50 you can't change the shutter speed at all well shooting? Also I have the original bag that was bought around the same time as the camera, would anyone know if the bag has fire retardant on it. Cameras been inside the bag for 30 years so probably should wash the camera. They put retardant on everything in those days.
Just read the earlier comments about out of auto it defaults to 1/60th of a second bummer. So i guess just my fire retardant question is left to be answered.
Thanks so much. Just got one from a person at my church it's nice to know the basics about this camera though I do other fim cameras this is the only one with auto film.
Is it possible if you could do a pod cast of the Canon EOS Rebel G SLR from 1996? I have a Canon EOS Rebel G that I haven't used it lately because I've gone digital with a DSLR. I do know some things about the camera because I've used it for the last seven years and gotten great shots with it as well.
Mike: You did a great job reviewing the Canon T 50 camera. You did such a good job that I ended up purchasing a like new T50 on Ebay soon after watching your review of the camera. I own numerous cameras and always enjoy your reviews. Keep up the good work.
You can try Fotodiox , or rainbowimaging , that or remount your lens for EOS, however FD to EOS isn't a for sure bet as there's a lot of problems that arises from adapting FD to EOS.
Hello, Can the T50 shoot while there is no film? I have one and when I press the shutter button, it only beeps, but the shutter curtain does not open and close. Any advice? Thanks.
ijat raymond I think that i had the same problem with my camera (I got it used from my aunt 20 years ago) The light meter was not working so i replaced my camera body.
Hi! I just got this camera from my Uncle the other day. I´m used to the modern system cameras, Is there any special things that I need to think of or be aware of before start Photographing? :)
Classic... take it to a repair shop maybe? In my case I bought a NON working t50 for spare parts. Changing the battery door (actually the whole bottom) is just 5 screws. A 2min job.
Hi the Canon T 50 does have cable socket on the right hand side ,and remote switch is available that acts like a shutter cable 'CANON REMOTE SWITCH 60 T3 ', there is a button when pressed with activate the shutter, also the button is mounted on a locking slider plate that when is pressed and pushed forward will lock the shutter to activate the bulb mode !!,
I had a minolta x-700... :( the light meter broke....but it was good while it lasted...my neighbor found it in the dump.....i even bought an autowinder for it....luckly i had a x-370..for back up :)
cool camera! do you know you can control this camera with an infrared remote? I know..you're saying "no, this cameras as no IR receiver". but.. Yap you cant control it wirelesly! great for long exposures and remote shooting! check out how at this link (copy to browsers address bar): remoteALL.bymac.org

You can do double (or triple ...) only with manual film advance cameras (and it's kind of tricky) or with a camera that has this feature

Is there any other canon film cameras with auto exposure with manual lens?
Need some help here.. I've already set the aperture ring to AE, but on the viewfinder it was red M blinking instead of green P.. can anyone help?
ijat raymond

The light meter was not working so i replaced my camera body.
I believe the blinking M means you are now in manual aperture mode
What type of film would you buy for this camera?
Crystal Attidore Hi. Any 35mm film.
Like Kodak 400.

I just got this and I think there is something wrong with the battery door
Try using some tape to hold it closed. Hope you getting it working!

Get the T70!
T70 is GREAT!

Gosh, do not know. Search Google and e-bay.
Can you record with the canon t50
T50 can shoot without film if you have the battery ok
Beautiful!!!!!!!!! want it :D
Get the EOS 1.
I do have other film cameras but this*
That is THE WORST SLR camera, although I think it serves as the best point and shoot cause of the lens.
These are selling cheap as dirt on ebay. I saw one in used condition for a dollar.
Hmmm. Sounds like your T50 is broken.
