My favourite band of the New Wave era, and indeed, one of my favourite bands of all time. Shamefully overlooked, they influenced countless other bands. Howard Devoto as a lyricist is at the top of my list of all time favourites. A Song From Under The Floorboards has to be one of my favourite songs, with genius lyrics.
Noko`s great, saw him play with Devoto in Luxuria in the early 90`s, a consumate guitarist. He wrote a very small but amusing piece in the John McGeoch biography.
@@jekyll087 And Noko and the Gray brothers made some great music as Apollo 440, "Liquid cool" "Ain't talking about dub," "Krupa" and "Stop the Rock" are just a few of the gems Noko and co made some great eclectic rock. And Noko did a great stand-in for the late great John McGeoch when Magazine reformed briefly for a few live gigs and the excellent album "Know Thyself" in 2009.
Indeed. McGeouch was one of the greatest of our generation. Possibly our equivalent to Jeff Beck. It was almost like he was painting sound... This gentleman (Noko) is an excellent player too...and, he's smart enough to respectfully interpret the style and sounds of JM without overreaching and losing the plot. Kudos to him. The setlist is made up of songs that are more "traditional" (less complex) too - that could have been by design...Permafrost, The Motorcade, Cut Out Shapes, Definitive Gaze, etc are omitted (at this point in the reunion) as they are pretty unique in their guitar soundscapes and moods. Just my two cents
I don't care if people didn't get this Band. We did. Musicians Punk, or Post-Punk whatever. DeVoto a cerebral Lyricist, the Band is the Cream of the Crop. Thank You Mr. Noko.Well Done M8. Great Guitarist.

Back in the day or one summer night as I should say I saw Magazine play on the Royal Iris ferry boat which sailed up & down the River Mersey all night long. Brilliant memories.
@@vanojoh3733 Yeah I was at two of those shows. I don't think a went to the Empire show. Those were the days, seeing proper bands instead of anonymous interchangeable DJ waving his arms about.

Noko does an excellent job filling in for John McGeogh , fantastic , a huge favourite from my teenage years ... I only wished they toured North America more extensively; they would've sold out The Southgate House Revival in The Original Sin City, Newport, KY, USA no problem, and possibly may have outdrawn there instead of any venues in Cin City (Cincinnati, OH) USA across the river due to the influence of the late, great and legendary Newport Jockey Club of the 80's......
Great. Magazine was one of the best and most overlooked bands, I guess people didn't get the lyrics. DeVoto was writing short stories to music. Getting into a person, many deviant or whatever, but it was fun. Nobody was better. Fantastic musicianship, Dave Formula, a god, Barry Adamson, likewise. Who was the guitarist, amazing, and since McGeogh is dead it was such a beautiful remembrance of that mans contributions.
Chris Nagy The guitarist is Noko, who was Devoto’s collaborator in Luxuria. He did a fantastic job of really learning and recreating McGeoch’s unique guitar style. Respect!
Chris Nagy you are right. Underrated as a band and as musicians. Aside from Japan , Barry was one of the first to bring that frettless electric to pink rock. John McGeoch could be credited for one of the main contributions to post punk guitar with his cold chords ( especially on second hand daylight. ) Edge of U2 gets more credit for that style but John to me innovated it before him. Magazine to me was the next phase of punk ie post punk before any other bands were on that. Of course pink was more experimental than it is now and the band probably didn't set out to he a punk band forse or maybe they wanted to be a punk band among what punk was con - sid- ered at the time.i never thought about the short story to songs - great point. I do recognize his word play tho lol - very clever

They're definitely now in that Bucket List Band category, which is a band you've never seen but want to see before the last surviving original member kicks the bucket!
He does a fantastic job!, even uses the same flanger and Yamaha SG to get it right. I heard they originally asked Jonny Greenwood to fill Johns shoes for the reunion but he was too shy and starstruck to do it, says a lot about how great John was, his playing with both Magazine and Siouxie has been inspirational to so many.
