The Lake District | Loughrigg Fell | Rydal Cave | Rydal Hall waterfall | An easy Wainwright walk

- Loughrigg sits between Ambleside and Grasmere. As the lowest Wainwright in the Central Fells this is a wonderful introduction to fell walking for many children and adults alike.
This walk takes us from St.Mary's church in Rydal over Pelter Bridge to the shore of Rydal Water. As we head from the lake we visit the caves. These are the product of slate mining in the area and now provide a wonderful point of interest for visitors (and a shelter from the rain). There is also a platform here where you can try your hand at cairn building, a fun family activity.
Towards Loughrigg the walk takes in Rydal Water and Grasmere, both offering wonderful views.
Leaving the lakes behind we head up the steep conservation path to Loughrigg's summit. From here we head across the fell top back past the caves and down to Rydal where we see some unusual building work before make the short walk to see the sculptures, Grot and waterfall at Rydal Hall.
This is a very popular walk totaling 10km but really feels far shorter due to the low elevation of Loughrigg and the chance to stop as so many interesting places.

Great hike out. Fantastic to be out in the fresh air.
Always mate, a lovely little wander this one ⛰️
Great vid Tony. Used this as the route to take my six year old up our first Fell last week.
Nice one Joe. A great one to introduce them to the fells😁⛰️
Good vlog tony can't belive last time I was here I forgot about the grot lol 😆 great place I will have to ho back now nice one 👍
Thanks mate, it’s a packed little circuit. A great excuse to go back and cover it. Just like the cliff face on the Badger Bar is an essential reason to visit 😂👍
Morning Tony, cracking video mate. Such a shame you didn’t have the best of weather. The views from Loughrigg are epic. I always like to come down the way you went up and head up one of the many less steep grassier paths. Have a great weekend, all the best, Dave. 😀🥾⛰
Cheers Dave 👍. It did go a bit mad on top but good to get out at any rate 😁. Hopefully the mountain gods will be kind this week.
That sounds a great idea. So many routes across the top. Enjoy the weekend mate ⛰️
great vid, done that walk a couple of times, the views are fab, i do like the falls, there are more further up if you walk through the campsite and upwards. nice one.
Thanks mate, I'll hopefully be back in the area soon so will check them out.
All the best out there!
