Not defending the ref at all, he shouldve made quicker calls and let the game flow and play more. gotta be the most annoying game posted in a while! Great vid tho IST. love the content.

It’s a thin line between receiving comments saying you should make calls quicker and receiving comments saying you should look for more advantages. I don’t think the ref did a terrible job with the speed of his calls, but he could have done more to address the dissent and possibly prevent it from becoming a big part of the game.
IFAB Guidelines for Match Officials: A whistle which is used too frequently/unnecessarily will have less impact when it is needed. I can’t count the amount of times the referee blew his whistle, with the same exact tone

That 3rd goal is hilarious. Maybe the Centre back shouldn't clear it into the middle of the field. Also, the Offside call is waved off because Red 21 actively plays the ball, makes contact with his shoulder, and eliminates the offside., Deliberate vs Deflection. Its unfortunate, but the right call.
I'd disagree on the offside call. IFAB updated the Laws in past two years to say "deliberate play" includes the defender "has control of the ball." At no point did Red #21 have control. It goes further to say deliberate play shouldn't be considered when: "it was a case of instinctive stretching or jumping, or a movement that achieved limited contact/control" - which I think this would fall under here.
As a ref, I know how hard teams/coaches/situations like these can be... but this crew needs to do better. Absolutely zero communication at several key moments of the game. Would have avoided so much of the drama with the red coach if they had (1) talked to each other to get the call right, and (2) at least given the appearance of a conference between the ref and the AR. Not a well-managed game. That coach also 100% should have been shown the first caution earlier and definitely sent off after his second outburst.
These teams are in a Regional league in Ontario... basically they would be tier 8, Unofficially officially: 1. CPL/MLS 2. League 1 Premier 3. League 1 Championship 4. League 2 5. OSL Elite 6. College / University (reason I place this here is because the vast majority of College/University teams are literally not good, the good teams all the players are already playing in the divisions above) 7. OSL Provincial East/West 8. OSL Regional Divisions 9. OSL MJ District Divisions 10. Individual City District Leagues 11. Doesnt matter at this point
A lot of people complaining about the referee, but he wasn't the major issue in this game. His linesman had no idea what the offside rule is, and unfortunately, he has to rely on them to tell him when a player is offside. He could have allowed play to flow better though. Give the decision, quick explanation of why it's been given, get play restarted. No need to argue with the coach, just card him if he won't accept the first explanation and continues to argue, then get on with the game. Have to say though, the way the Canadian teams behave towards officials, it's no wonder there's a lack of quality ones available...
It's all about the ref and his little feelings. Whistling and pausing the game multiple times because someone says something is so self-centered. Just let the game flow and book them the next time play is paused
Both linesmen were terrible, the first 2 offsides were onside by a mile, the third one that was called was correct call but the guy is like 3 meters away from the defensive line, which is just causing more confusion. The forth one when the blue team got there third goal, again calls an offside but then realized he fucked up and retracted his decision, at least this time he know it was the wrong call. The ref did ok for the most part but you can tell after 10 mins into the second half he was caving in to the red team just so they would stop bitching. The Ontario League has to be a house league cuz some of these teams are trash and the ref's and linesmen are not competent.
As an official…no one wants to ref these adult league games (which is primarily what IST films). 90% of the people out there are big giant man babies who cry over everything and also commit some of the worst fouls I have ever witnessed in a game. Not to mention if you call a great game, there is still the wonderful confrontation you have to survive going to your car from one of the man babies who wants to fight you.

I don’t normally bash referees but this was pretty terrible. The first offside call by the AR was awful. The center was making some weird foul selections but the coach was way out of line.

Weak ref. Red goal deserved a couple yellows. Bringing your ARs to get yelled at by the coach isn't a good idea. Cynical fouls didn't get carded. I think Blue's 3rd goal was offside (first player was onside, might be able to argue it was a backward pass to the second guy. Don't know what the head gesture was. Red coach should've been sent, you don't keep saying "you're this close".
Painful to watch, coach from the red team should've been gone super early. I applaud the assistant coach that was coaching the players instead of complaining of the ref calls or lack there of. The red keeper should've gotten a red for several reasons, lol. The ref was spending way to much explaining his calls to everyone and their mothers lol. I agree that his whistles pitches should be better for fouls. Tough game with all the yelling from players and coach. Blow whistle, signal direction and move on.. :/
Yikes was that red team poorly coached! Not sure if they prefer playing soccer or bitching that the sky is blue. Sure the ref wasn't great but any decent ref would have red-carded half of that team.

Terrible work by the ARs. Half blind and not in line with the play. Coach for Red was actually wrong, the linesman called Blue offside twice incorrectly. The third goal should've been disallowed; it wasn't a legitimate defensive move to nullify the offside. Stops play to issue a card, rather than wait for the next stoppage. Poor referee who lost control of the game and is a complete control freak.
@@mbkincaid1- its not uncommon for refs to not pay attention to rule changes as they recertify annually. They just click “yeah I read it” and bam, they are certified for another season. The handball rule change is a prime example of them not reading the changes years ago as we still see refs awarding free kicks for “handball” fouls that aren’t a handball anymore in 2024. Also, the ref if they follow the rules that coach for Red would have been sent off aaaaaaages ago. The amount of dissent was insane.
Worst referee Team i have seen in a long time! It wasnt offside because it came off of the defenders head? That is not a rule anywhere in FIFA. The Penalty was soft. Not one player was 10 yards from a free kick! Blue defender tackled the striker from behind and no penalty? I could go on! When you have the word referee in the title you know it is going to be a bad display. The best Referee displays are when you dont even mention them!

yeah for the 3rd goal the referee would've right in 2022 but in 2024 that's not a deliberate play anymore

Offside- if the play on the ball was deliberate by the defender it would indeed cancel the offside.
