@@DES2nd9512 no. Russia and China is not much better.... I was just here in my corner thinking the US was a pretty good ally for Europe, but it seem they are not much better then China or Russia.
if Denmark was smart, they would let America have it. Having American bases on Greenland will force American to confront Russian navy in the Northern Atlantic specifically submarines prowling in the North Atlantic b/c of the geography. America is more engaged on European continent and America gets its bases. Win/win
They don't want the USA to have it because Denmark already collects a lot of USA money through Greenland. This is because Greenland is less than 20% food sufficient. Because Denmark controls it, they purchase most of their food and goods from Denmark instead of the USA where costs are less (and the USA is closer too). The USA bases rent the land, and buy goods and services from Greenland companies and hires hundreds of Greenland civilians as contractor employees. A lot of this money then ends up going to Denmark to purchase food, goods, and services.
Greenland is not for sale. We are happy to work with other countries. Who has an interest in reasonable trade. Both in the political areas and in the business areas. But we are not for sale.
As regards the Greenland situation, which would you prefer? Your island becoming a U.S. protectorate arranged via a treaty/purchase or watch as Putin surrounds a defenseless Greenland with his ships and unloads his troops? Or may be the Chinese? You think Denmark would do anything about it other than come crying to NATO and hope for the best?
Incorrect. Louisiana was the breadbasket for Haiti and the loss of it due to their independence movement meant that there was no more reason to hold onto the land. Napoleon was also a brilliant strategist who knew that the territory would rapidly fall to the British, so instead of accepting the inevitable he decided to sell it to the US for extra cash to fund his European campaigns. It was a win-win for the French and Americans.
It makes absolut no sense for Greenland to vote to "get purchased" by the US. Because Denmark simply says no to any purchase. And if Trump goes to the Greenland people to vote on a purchase against Denmarks will who will get the money? And by the way what kind of Infrastructure investment does America promise to Greenland? I mean currently, Alaska the closest comparison, does not do so well in terms of Infrastructure.
The money? We are the USA we print money. That's a purchase I would agree going over the national debt. And Alaska does have good infrastructure. Don't know if you been to Alaska.
Alaska is the most developed and populated Arctic territory in the world. The Arctic has a population of 4 million and Alaska alone has a population of 700,000. Greenland would massively benefit in the same way that Alaska did after we purchased it from Russia
@@JoseOrtiz-kb9vk The question is not how the USA gets the money but to whom does the USA pay the money? If the Greenlanders "vote to get purchased" , against Denmarks will (Denmark rejects money from US), who will get the money? It can not be Greenland because after a "purchase" Greenland would be a part of the US. In such a scenario America would effectivly pay itself to purchase Greenland.
@@AmericanAdvancement Sorry to tell you but this is not how Infrastructure investment works. Population is not Infrastucture. And evan if you go with this rout has your plan a little problem. Because in this case you expect the native Greenland population to voluntarily vote to get replaced with immigrants and become a minority in their own country. (At least I doubt that the Greenlander will start having more children because they are now part of the US). Lastly no. Alaska is not the most populated and developed Arctic territory. The 4 Million reffers to the population within the arctic circle. Alaska has only 3 Boroughs in said Region. North Slope, Northwest Arctic and Yokon-Koyukuk with a combined population of ~25.000.
Say Greenland citizens decided to join the US they could move from poverty to success. Say in their new state constitution they baked in a percentage of mineral rights going to the citizens of Greenland as well as a small percentage of the value of the minerals coming from there. Similar what Alaska does with oil rights.
The population of Greenland is only around 56,000 people. I don't think it's a populous enough territory to really justify making it a state. Making it a US territory makes more sense.
I'd rather have Cuba. Canada was screwed by the people themselves by how the by voted. Cuban people were screwed by a communist take over and have been prisoners of that system since the Castro revolution. Their freedom was taken away unlike Canadian people who gave their rights away.
Amazingly, the population is only 56,000 people. Like a small town. Size is 836,330 square miles. Alaska is 663,268 square miles. Texas is 268,820 square miles.

Greenland should setup a sovereign wealth fund, much like the Alaska Permanent Fund. Which would collect a royalty from natural resource development that goes into a fund. The dividends from that fund pay for infrastructure and cash payments to residents.

I am skeptical that the people of Greenland would benefit any more from being controlled by the USA than from Denmark. There is no reason to believe otherwise considering how generous Denmark is with social programs.
For your knowledge. The US has several bases in Greenland since the Second World War. Right now. The US has Pituffik (Thule Air Base) and early warning stations around the ice sheet.
Danes will be out of the equation soon enough. as they lack the industry and drive to develop Greenland's natural resources. as well as lack any ability to defend the island and artic.

As an Ohioan that vacationed many years in Canada but now can’t go without a passport for my whole family I would love to see it at least go back to that status. It makes no sense for us to have separate currencies either.

@@luddite4change449 I think that the part of him fully 100% annexing Canada is a joke. I think it is just an opening to a friendly conversation to make the USA and Canada bond closer, sort of how European nations don't have borders with each other/economic policies

My take is America have the money to make Greenland sustainable while Denmark barely have the money to keep it afloat
The U.S. is going to fix Greenland's infrastructure while U.S. infrastructure is falling apart?
Greenland is a resource-rich piece of real estate. Taking advantage of those resources would more than cover the cost of fixing our infrastructure and theirs.
Biden claims he already fixed the US infrastructure with his latest infrastructure bill! 😂😂😂
@@horacecomegna335It’s worse than ever.

If Greenland became a State, they would have 3 electoral votes; one Representative and two Senators. To give them only one would require a Constitutional Amendment.
Wouldnt need to become a state, could just be a territory.
just more of a reason why we should not make them a state and instead a territory.
@millville444 It would be a benefit to the people of Greenland. Each of their votes would proportionally have a greater impact on our elections than the current citizens.
Greenland holds all the cards. They would be stupid to join without getting statehood.
They should be a territory. No reason to make Greenland a state until the population i higher
Well if the U.S., acquires Greenland is because the Greenlanic People wanted to join the U.S.
In other words Denmark should have sold Greenland in the first Trump Administration.
I`m sorry that we have just a little respect for the will of the people. I understand this is a far off idea for you Americans.

These comments show you why you should never have the US as an ally.

@@DES2nd9512 no. Russia and China is not much better.... I was just here in my corner thinking the US was a pretty good ally for Europe, but it seem they are not much better then China or Russia.

Trump declared war on Denmark
if Denmark was smart, they would let America have it. Having American bases on Greenland will force American to confront Russian navy in the Northern Atlantic specifically submarines prowling in the North Atlantic b/c of the geography. America is more engaged on European continent and America gets its bases. Win/win
There are already US bases in Greenland.
Trump declared war on Denmark
They don't want the USA to have it because Denmark already collects a lot of USA money through Greenland. This is because Greenland is less than 20% food sufficient. Because Denmark controls it, they purchase most of their food and goods from Denmark instead of the USA where costs are less (and the USA is closer too). The USA bases rent the land, and buy goods and services from Greenland companies and hires hundreds of Greenland civilians as contractor employees. A lot of this money then ends up going to Denmark to purchase food, goods, and services.
Not only 10 billion but 30k ppl died from building it

States get at least three electoral college votes. They all have two senators and at least one representative.
You think Denmark would do anything about it other than come crying to NATO and hope for the best?
you are for sale for very cheaply from China now USA wants in thanks to your lack of vision USA will own you
Napoleon was criticized for selling Louisiana territories to the USA. Hos logic was the the USA would eventually take it
@AmericanAdvancement you say "incorrect" and repeat what I said with more words, thanks
There’s going to be a referendum in GL in April. If Denmark is smart they will negotiate a sale before that.
Would Greenlanders become U.S. citizens and be able to move to the U.S. like Puerto Ricans can?
Thats the assumption if they become a territory
Yes and they will get US passports as well

Greenland should setup a sovereign wealth fund, much like the Alaska Permanent Fund. Which would collect a royalty from natural resource development that goes into a fund. The dividends from that fund pay for infrastructure and cash payments to residents.
Sure Greenland is smaller than it appears on distorted maps, but let's also not understate it's size. It's size is basically comparable to Western Europe, from Portugal through Spain & France into Germany.

I alway thought Baja California would make a good addition.
I dont see the downside for the citizens of Greenland for becoming part of the US. Seems like it would be good for them and us.
We could set up american companies there to extract resources and give them jobs.
$55billon would be $1million for each resident.
Easy.
Pay Denmark another $50B in gold and the jobs done
You’ve got Greenland for around $100B
The natural resources belong to the Greenlanders and the Danes, not Americans.
Danes will be out of the equation soon enough. as they lack the industry and drive to develop Greenland's natural resources. as well as lack any ability to defend the island and artic.
If canada becomes a fifty first state, just give them ten electorial votes that way they don't affect voting too much since they're just a state
I don’t think the US will annex Canada but if we do it needs to be divided into about 6-10 states. At the very least its individual provinces should be states.
I think Trump is trolling when he talks about Canada as a state but I do think he wants to alter the deal when it comes to trade.
That’s not at all how it works. Electoral votes are proportional to a states population. Canada (40 million people) would have slightly more electoral votes than California (38 million people)
