I’ve just exchanged my 2017 unicorn for a 2019 , the improvements are absolutely brilliant, a vast improvement just show that Bailey have it just right .
I have a Bailey Unicorn and was thinking buying a new one in 2018, so I have been to my local dealer to view the new range. The Bailey Unicorn Range 2018 is awful. The front cupboards make to interior feel cramped. The old 2017 range is far better. It has shelves that are handy for laptops and maps etc. that do not fit in the silly little cupboards. The tv point has moved from the useful front table area to where the coats should be hung The nice shelf on the front of the van that is each side of the draws has gone. The settee has many individual back sections that make an uncomfortable sleeping surface. The wine thing is a waste of space and totally impractical to use. The shower and the impractical sink is a joke. Where do you put the soap and it is difficult to clean the bowl when water runs down the back. That black grab rail on the back looks awful as does the black hitch. The sockets in the kitchen area are vertical rather than horizontal, where will the wires hang? The Vigo bed is not practical, you need two types of special sheets to fit the design - no thanks. Bailey, you need to sack your design team, they have messed up a great product!!!!!Read more Show less
I agree, and what use is the part of the sofa that narrows each side of the middle table? Where do you put the stuff that used to be in the front locker?
We had a front locker for 12 years, we recently bought a 2018 Bailey Cartagena (no front locker). It has it's own gas locker at the side. The locker under the front seats are large, I can fit 3 collapsible crates in the front side locker. I've done a review of the Cartagena, which is very similar to the Pamplona.. www.caravanvlogger.co.uk/bailey-unicorn-cartagena-review-2018-model/ Graham
I guess it's horses for courses. We didn't consider a Bailey until the 2018 S4. For us they are much more modern looking. Mind you we decided on a twin axle and there's only two of us so there's more storage than we can find things for. I disagree about the interior feeling cramped (at least with the Cartagena transverse bed - which I doubt you'll like) with the large front window it's very light and airy. We've never had a Bailey before so can't really compare with previous models, other than on looks. I do agree the sink is tricky to use, it's difficult to face your face in, I guess it's done for looks rather than being practical. I also agree with the wine storage is a waste. I like the grab handle (I don't use it though) and I also like the black hitch. I think Bailey have been brave and the design team should get an award, it's very modern stylish and does turn heads. (Towards the caravan not away :-) ) But we're all different.. Just giving another opinion, we love it, but it won't suit everyone. They may have lost your custom, but have gained ours...
Alfred Barrow, having bought one of these, I have to agree with Graham, the lounge feels more light and spacious than most ‘vans we’ve been in. The feel is modern and yet still cosy. The sofas are extremely comfortable - in fact, they feel more like domestic sofas than any caravan seating I’ve ever sat on. I have fallen asleep in them a few times (either through watching the end of a film after my wife has gone to bed or being relegated there due to snoring). The TV position is in exactly the right place for me - facing where I sit, when I’m lying down on the sofa, propped up by a cushion. Coats can be hung in the ample wardrobes or the drop-down handle in the shower, if they’re wet. The power points in the kitchen are positioned so that the wires of some larger plugs (certain phone chargers perhaps) don’t interfere with the plugs above or below. The wires pointing at 90 degrees does not spoil the aesthetic of the area. The sink in bathroom does not feel impractical - I will agree that wiping behind it is marginally more troublesome than with a sink that is flush with the counter, but what you gain for it sitting on top, and in exchange for the extra 10 seconds of effort in cleaning, is a nice aesthetic, plus a bit more storage beneath. I use liquid soap from a dispenser, so no problem there. I see why some people might deem the bottle cupboard a waste of space, but there are 3 things I would say about this. Firstly, I use it. We always travel with a couple of nice bottles of red wine and a bottle of Glenmorangie. It’s nice to have a dedicated place to store these at room temperature to be served the way they should be. Secondly, there are plenty of caravans out there with drinks cupboards; sure, they’re usually made of glass and positioned at head-height to show off the bottles, but I don’t like people knowing I like whisky, especially if I’m to play them at cards later... Thirdly, if you really find this solution to be impractical for you, you can unscrew the bottle holders and store Coco Pops in there, if you like. The gas locker around the front has moved to the side - what you get in return is longer sofas and a bit more storage in, and under, the front drawers - perfect for laptops if the lockers aren’t big enough for you (though they seem pretty big to me). Everything you used to store in the front can now live under the longer seats, which can be accessed from outside. You don’t need two types of special sheets to fit the bed, you need one standard fitted double, which, when the bed is in nighttime position, will fit over the whole bed including the ‘extension section’. I really like the black hitch as a contrast with the rest of the caravan and have no feelings about the grab handles at all. The caravan is not without fault. The tv points are too high up, even if you mount the TV on the wall (though I realise this is because the fridge is on the other side of the panel) - wires therefore dangle a bit. They should have put shallow cupboards under the bedroom shelves for more storage. The plug point in the bedroom is on the opposite side to the dressing mirror, meaning my wife can’t dry her hair in front of it with a standard small hairdryer - we’ve had to buy a hairdryer with a longer cable to accommodate this. Also, there should be small shelves joined to the headboard/wardrobes in the bedroom to put your phone on - we have to place our phones on the longer shelves above the window at night. I find these minus points to be small compared to what is right with the ‘van. It is very well thought-out, modern looking, cosy and extremely comfortable.
