  • Cairns (/ˈkɛərnz/, locally /ˈkænz/ (listen)) [note 1] is a city in Queensland, Australia, on the tropical north east coast of Far North Queensland. The population in June 2019 was 153,952, having grown on average 1.02% annually over the preceding five years. The city is the 5th-most-populous in Queensland, and 15th in Australia.
The city was founded in 1876 and named after Sir William Wellington Cairns, following the discovery of gold in the Hodgkinson river. Throughout the late 19th century, Cairns prospered from the settlement of Chinese immigrants who helped develop the region's agriculture. Cairns also served as a port for blackbirding ships, bringing slaves and indentured labourers to the sugar plantations of Innisfail. During World War II, the city became a staging ground for the Allied Forces in the Battle of the Coral Sea. By the late 20th century the city had become a centre of international tourism, and in the early 21st century has developed into a major metropolitan city.
Cairns is a popular tourist destination because of its tropical climate and access to tropical rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef, one of the seven natural wonders of the world.

I can't believe how you studiously avoided our Esplanade!!! The best part of our City! I must have a look at your Paris vid which would obviously avoid the
    Champselysees! 😂😂😂

I've watched about 20 of these videos both walking and driving tours of our cities and towns and the road trips between them , and I'm still waiting for someone to tell me that we don't live in the cleanest ,safest, most beutiful country in the world . I noticed in the first video which was of Sydney, and I've deliberately looked for in all the others since then the lack of litter or rubbish on the streets, then I started noticing things like how quiet everywhere is how there's a lack of garish and in your face signage and advertising devices ,how big and clear the sky is, and until I saw a police van in this video, no visible overt police presence . We truly are blessed to be able to live in this Australia another word for paradise .

Agreed, for those of us that have travelled overseas it's always good to come home for the reasons you mention and many more.

Nice vid, nice city. But somehow not many people on the streets, no bicycles no public transport buses in the vid ...
Is it a walkable city? I.e. enjoy the walk?

It has changed soo much since 1997 ... I miss Australia soo much, I said that I was gonna come back there.. now 27 years has passed due to my wrong choices in life.. Fuck I m angry on myself for fucking up my life.. but I didnt stand a chance back then.. If I would ve known what I know today I would ve made something out of my life instead of flushing it down the toilett.. at least Im alive and have a job.. It could ve been worse..
Life is hard .. when your young u dont realise 😢😢😢
