I've seen Scott Henderson live on three occasions, once with Tribal Tech, once with Jeff Berlin and Dennis Chambers and with his own trio, they were some of the best shows i have ever seen. His guitar playing is just out of this world, he really channels in the spirits of Allan Holdsworth and Jeff Beck but still sounding like himself. In my opinion, he is one of the greatest guitarists on the planet and it was a great honor to meet and have a picture with him, he's really down to earth with an amazing sense of humour. Fantastic interview.
Scott Henderson has been one of my main music (and guitar) heroes for more than 30 years. Thank you Rick for the incredible and very deep interview you did. Many things that Scott said let me thinking and meditating deep things about my own music processes. Thank you again and greetings from Venezuela.
Great interview Rick! Scott was a teacher/counselor when I attended GIT in '84-'85. He was awesome then, and has only gotten more incredible as the years have gone by. One of my biggest highlights of that year was getting to sit and watch Scott play Real Book tunes for hours with the likes of Frank Gambale, et. al. It was an amazing time in my life for sure!!
Damn, just yesterday I was watching one of the Sounding Off videos thinking "Man this would be great with Scott Henderson as a guest" and lo and behold... Scott is probably my favorite guitarist, so thank you for this!
He is one of the guitar gods alive, so humble, intelligent and inspiring person! Love him, thank you Rick Beato :) Another guitar name that I want to see in this Sounding Off series is Guthrie Govan... :)
I have seen Scott almost every time he comes to St. Paul, he's a truly unique musician: after the shows he sits down to talk with us local guitarists - imagine that, a legendary musician that really LIKES being with his audience! awesome person!
Scotts' classroom was right across the hall from my locker when I attended MI in 93 - 94. Love his playing style. I loved listening in on his class every chance I got.
Rick Beato. You have my most deep respect an adimiration. You get nothing but the best musicians in your channel. Scott is out of this world: unbelievable phrasing, rythm and harmonic ideas. Congratulations. Greetings from Brasil.
Another great interview. Thanks Rick. Scott is one of the guys I really try to emulate. His blues playing is incredible and his ability to weave in altered dom, diminished, triads, etc. is masterful.
I was happy to see the amazing steve wilson concert and it was made very clear, no iphones in use at concert and I love that ...be in the moment enjoy....buy a live album/dvd or a studio recording and support artists to make more great music.
Rick, just listened to the interview in 2021. You did a really great job asking some interesting questions. It was a good mix of technical and personal questions. I've heard interviews with Scott before but I really enjoyed this one.
One of the BEST concerts I’ve ever attended was seeing Henderson along with bassist Rufus Philpot, keyboardist Mitch Forman and drummer Andy Sanesi at the Baked Potato back in 2013. Near magical!
GREAT interview! I've been a fan of Scott's since 1990... met him and Tribal Tech on a snowy New Haven gig after soundcheck. Huge influence and a nice cat. Thanks Rick!
I had the opportunity to watch Scott Henderson's trio with Jeff Berlin and Dennis Chambers some 6 years ago (of which I took a video and DID NOT upload to TH-cam, nor ever will :D). The venue was kind of like a music hall, so it wasn't intimate, but it wasn't huge either. The warmth from these gentlemen, especially Mr. Berlin and Mr. Henderson was palpable. I certainly hope they return to my neck of the woods.
I've been a fan since hearing Scott with Chick Corea's Elektric Band in '86. I saw a performance they did at a festival, I think Montreux. I was totally blown away. Scott's a total pro, one of the most distinctive stylist out there, and he's only gotten better. I can't say that for most players, even most great players. I find it amazing that just two years after attending GIT he got the gig with Corea.
Great, great interview. Very interesting and enlightening points from mr. Henderson, I´ve been following his carrer ever since the Players band and Tribal tech is my favourite fusion group. Mr.Beato, you're a great techer and interviewer, looking forward for more. Greetings from northern Mexico.
Excellent interview, thanks so much! One of the many things I love about Scott Henderson is that he's so incredibly Real and down-to-earth. I believe that this quality really comes across in his playing, which to my ear always sounds so truthful. I also happen to think he writes great tunes. His playing and his tunes are so much about expression, which is something I believe to largely be missing from the music scene nowadays. (Music might be a big forest, but most of its trees are sick.) And btw, great questions!
I absolutely love this series, and I would love to hear you talk with some more jazz guitarists, I think Julian Lage would be amazing, he's so increadibly talented and accomplished so much at such a young age. I also think that someone like Chris Thile, the mandolin player (Check him out if you don't know who he is, he's done stuff with Brad Mehldau, Edgar Meyer, Yo-Yo Ma to name a few) as I consider him one of the worlds greatest musicians, seeing an interview with him would be incredible! Of course there are others I'd love to see on here, but I understand you can't get everyone, people like Brad Mehldau, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Lage Lund, Marius Neset and Jasper Hoiby are others I think would be absolutely fantastic on your show. Thank you for your great contribution to this community :)
Scott is a freakin genius. His knowledge and technique are outstanding. The iPhone dilemma: we used to see Eric Johnson, Holdsworth and others back in Houston, and their crew and management would be hawking and confiscating cassettes. It was the best way, although some of the bootlegs we came away with are priceless. The phone thing is ridiculous though
Every fusion blues guitarist, scott henderson: vibe station album is an essential it's really innovative, amazing recording and beautiful guitar playing.
I love Pat Metheny for all his great compositions and playing on his PMG Metheny Group albums. But for guitar solos - it has to be Scott Henderson. On each listening to this - his last album - I keep discovering something new. Simply put - in my opinion - he's the most awesome musically talented constantly surprising and inventive **LOUD** electric guitarist around. Its not about the number of notes-per-minute but what he puts into each note and the note-choices he makes. Its no wonder he is the "guitarists guitarist" And of course there are other awesome jazz/fusion players out there too - Rosenwinkel, Krantz, Julian Lage, Ford, etc etc. But Henderson just KICKS ASS!
I was in the last ever Miami Plaboy Club around 1984-5. Dont ask. I remember seing this incredible covers band, with a tall guitar player with an afro. He was playing an Ovation electric guitar and he was extremely versatile and amazing. I didnt know Scott at the time, but years later that memory came back to me, and I could swear it was him at the Playboy club. Anybody can shed some light? Else I will always wonder who the killer guitar was
I agree. It totally takes people out of the moment. I'm one of those people who went I go to a show, be it a concert of a movie, or a play, my phone is OFF. I want to be IN THE MOMENT. Great memories are made of being PRESENT, not zoning out and thinking about what your phone is doing.
Scott's a total pro. He was always great, and he's evolved incredibly well. I first heard him on a record insert from Guitar Player around '86, about the time he was with Chick Corea's Elektric Band. I also saw him play with Chick in a jazz fest on cable around the same time, then became familiar with Gambale when Henderson departed to reform Tribal Tech. Both are dynamite players, but Frank was a better fit for Chick's project and Scott seemed happier in Tribal Tech and working with Zawinul. What I love about Scott's playing is how natural it sounds. You hear a maestro totally at one with his instrument.
Scott Henderson what a guy, hes really good with the whammy bar ina way like Jeff Beck, I saw him live in 2022 at some bar in Pasadena with joey taylor on drums, they all put a great little show but now after hearing this interview i feel guilty for recording them with my phone 😅
Ever thought of SOUNDING OFF with Steve Morse? I'd imagine he could really tell one thing or the other, too... e.g. about playing guitar in general, playing the music of purplish dinosaurs, Bach & chicken picking, piloting, the strange twists and turns of a professional career as a performing musician and possibly some more.
Rick, apart from sounding off with Dweezil, could you please produce a video/videos that provides a detailed analysis of Franks style ? They way that you can dissect down to the nth degree would make for some interesting viewing. Ta......
I've seen Scott Henderson live on three occasions, once with Tribal Tech, once with Jeff Berlin and Dennis Chambers and with his own trio, they were some of the best shows i have ever seen. Fantastic interview.
The first time I say Tribal Tech live and he started soloing. The best musical experience of my life. I've never been as close to ecstasy as that day.
The phrasing on this guy is truly unbelievable
Wow , i didnt know you intervew Scott Henderson
Scott Henderson has been one of my main music (and guitar) heroes for more than 30 years. Thank you Rick for the incredible and very deep interview you did. Many things that Scott said let me thinking and meditating deep things about my own music processes. Thank you again and greetings from Venezuela.
I love hearing Scott talk about music. Almost as much as I love hearing him play! He reached in my brain and read a list every musician/music I love!

Scott is probably my favorite guitarist, so thank you for this!
Let go of iPhones why rant about it?
Scott is the real deal 👌
A true master of the craft
He is one of the guitar gods alive, so humble, intelligent and inspiring person! Love him, thank you Rick Beato :)
Another guitar name that I want to see in this Sounding Off series is Guthrie Govan... :)

Wow, Scott mentioned Gentle Giant! Go Scott!
Reuben Jones he played gentle giant covers when he was young, he really knows his rock music
Rick Beato. You have my most deep respect an adimiration. You get nothing but the best musicians in your channel. Scott is out of this world: unbelievable phrasing, rythm and harmonic ideas. Congratulations. Greetings from Brasil.
YES!
Another great interview. Thanks Rick. Scott is one of the guys I really try to emulate. His blues playing is incredible and his ability to weave in altered dom, diminished, triads, etc. is masterful.
You are killing it with the guests on here man!
Where in the video?
I was at MI when Scott was teaching “open counseling” there in 1990. Intense dude. Brilliant, awkward, no ability to be fake.
Scott Henderson is definitely in my top 5 of faves as far as players/composers go
I was happy to see the amazing steve wilson concert and it was made very clear, no iphones in use at concert and I love that ...be in the moment enjoy....buy a live album/dvd or a studio recording and support artists to make more great music.
One of The Best Scott’ s interviews ever ... !
Loved it...saw Scott with Joe Zawinul, Gerald Veasley on bass. & Tribal Tech? Brilliant!
Awesome! My favorite guitar player. Thanks!
I've been lucky enough to see Scott a few times. An absolute killer guitarist. Go see him on stage if you get the chance
Rick, just listened to the interview in 2021. You did a really great job asking some interesting questions. It was a good mix of technical and personal questions. I've heard interviews with Scott before but I really enjoyed this one.
Had the great good fortune to meet Scott after one of his gigs, and have to say that he is a perfectly lovely bloke. Humble, smart and very funny.
I saw Scott in Chicago a few years back and was COMPLETELY BLOWN AWAY. I captured a few clips but didn’t post them. I just kept them for myself.
Scott ,the best guitar!!! Tribal tech, the best band of fussion!!!
Love to hear him play...and talk, and to read him. This guy is sharp as a tack. Rock on, Scott.
Had to stop halfway through, so I could binge listen to Vibe Station; amazing album! Thanks for this, Rick.
Listening to it now (for the first time, actually my first ever Scott Henderson) - very, very satisfying.
One of the BEST concerts I’ve ever attended was seeing Henderson along with bassist Rufus Philpot, keyboardist Mitch Forman and drummer Andy Sanesi at the Baked Potato back in 2013. Near magical!
Rick, I've been waiting for this, thank you so much for this. I look forward to your videos everyday... Thanks again...
Being at the moment.leaving the iPhone .not for them and for myself as well...Scott u rock and thanks for bringing him here Rick!!
GREAT interview! I've been a fan of Scott's since 1990... met him and Tribal Tech on a snowy New Haven gig after soundcheck. Huge influence and a nice cat. Thanks Rick!

Love Scott, he's so genuine...thanks Rick.
Scott Henderson is always a pleasure. He rocks.
Great conversation. Scott tells the truth!
Saw Scott do a seminar in '86 at the Point in Atlanta. Wonderful player, sincere person and great instructor.
Thank you Rick and Scott
THANK YOU SCOTT! someone has the conscience to say no to phones on the gig.
Great choice of guests! Scott has been my favorite for a long time now.
Thank you very much for this Mr Beato :)

Scott Henderson's short little solo on Joe Zawinul's "Black Water" is just so beautiful.
This guy is Sick!
Thank you Rick, I had no idea you interviewed Scott, he’s an inspiration and a totally hilarious guy to hang with
Excellent interview. Great Scott Henderson!
Hate the iPhone thing too. I go to a gig, I take a pic or 2 (NO VIDEO) and that’s it. Just as a memoir and just for me.
Awesome! Scott is a great player
Thanks a lot Rick!
This is pure gold!
Cheers
Great, great interview. Very interesting and enlightening points from mr. Henderson, I´ve been following his carrer ever since the Players band and Tribal tech is my favourite fusion group. Mr.Beato, you're a great techer and interviewer, looking forward for more. Greetings from northern Mexico.
Great interview Rick! Henderson is one of my favourite players.
Scott Henderson is wicked on the guitar, l use to watch him perform at LaVelee back in the day, great interview....
Love Scott!!
I was also in GP Spotlight column in 1983 and
I'm trying to find the Scott magazine. I'd love to see that ! 🎸🎶
I think I saw that page in Guitar Player. That's where I discovered Scott, Eric Jonson and George Lynch. Blimey!!
Excellent interview, thanks so much! One of the many things I love about Scott Henderson is that he's so incredibly Real and down-to-earth. Damn this guy is a legend 🎸🎸🎸
I totally agree, cell phones have ruined live performances. If you are standing there with a phone , you are not experiencing the music.
Thanks Rick I really love this interview, you're great Musician .
Wonderful !!!
So informative and interesting.
Thank you.
Great interview.
One of the best TH-cam Channels ever !!

Awsome interview man!!! A big thank you!

He says he's willing to stop playing music when he sees iPhones up in the air at his shows. I kinda wish more artists would do this.
I was in a Scott Henderson concert when he stopped playing his band mates just to tune his guitar and then start the whole tune again.
I agree. It totally takes people out of the moment. I'm one of those people who went I go to a show, be it a concert of a movie, or a play, my phone is OFF. I want to be IN THE MOMENT. Great memories are made of being PRESENT, not zoning out and thinking about what your phone is doing.

Another killer interview... terrific questions
The very BEST of the BEST
Experience + talent + passion drives innovation imop. Great podcast
Severally underrated guitarist
Scott's a total pro. He was always great, and he's evolved incredibly well. I first heard him on a record insert from Guitar Player around '86, about the time he was with Chick Corea's Elektric Band. Could you get Eric Johnson (just met him and hes the best guy ever)
+Bruno Gendron Yes
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSS
that would be awesome!
I remember and have that edition of GP. Awesome!
I thought I might have heard Scott mention Gentle Giant in passing on his podcast, but I wasn't certain. This confirms it.
Brian Kubarycz he’s a big fan , he used to play Gentle Giant covers back when he was younger
Great pick for an interview! Thanks!
It would be very interesting a new interview (video) with Scott Henderson.
Yeaaah, Scott is da Man!
Scott Henderson what a guy, hes really good with the whammy bar ina way like Jeff Beck, I saw him live in 2022 at some bar in Pasadena with joey taylor on drums, they all put a great little show but now after hearing this interview i feel guilty for recording them with my phone 😅

Nice work on Fables album by Ponty.
"Atlantis" MY FAVORITE Wayne Shorter's album too!
When I think it does not get any better...
And the Blues band trio john Humphrey and Kirk Covington I saw them live in LA a few times
i remmeber had a nice chat with scott in czech republic about 10 years ago!
Great.
I tought it was a 45 minutes conversation about litteraly "sounding off" in your playing lol I am not disapointed anyway, thanks for that podcast!
The best!!
Can't wait for that Monk/Mingus video lesson...
The greatest
Great musician!!
Rick, apart from sounding off with Dweezil, could you please produce a video/videos that provides a detailed analysis of Franks style ? They way that you can dissect down to the nth degree would make for some interesting viewing. Ta......
Hi Rick Roscoe Beck, Tom Brechtlein and Robben Ford of course, The Blue
Line Band line up would be awesome
