I had the same issue when I tried to use the "ready by" charge function on my MY25 Equinox EV. It would do a little 30 second charge, then be disconnected when my car wanted to start the real charge later in the evening or early morning. Thankfully, after phone calls and emails with them, they were able to provide an update that allows me to charge with "ready by" function set up in the car's app. At first they really pressed to have me use their app instead of the cars app, but the "ready by" method is really the best all around method for home charging. It not only allows you to make the best use of the cheaper rates late at night without doing math, but also allows you to start driving and using the battery once the charge is done (its preconditioned, and if you charge to 100% for a long trip, you need to start draining the battery right away for best life). I am glad things worked out in the end, but was disappointed that the charger was not designed as a "plug in to plug out" type of system.
The issue you mention at 7:45 is a deal breaker for me. I bought the EVIQO because the OEM charger kept giving me charge-derated messages here in very hot Phoenix. The EVIQO solved that problem. But because it performs differently from most others, as you say at 7:45, I start getting "Charge canceled" messages in my MyChevrolet app when it asks for power for battery conditioning. The EVIQO has chosen on its own to stop communications, and I have to restart it by clicking on "Start" in the EVIQO main screen. So what it amounts to is that it will not automatically provide energy for battery conditioning when my Bolt asks for it. I have to start that process manually. And, in addition, after a long text discussion with their customer support, I was finally told that it was a safety measure to keep the car from "overcharging." Right about then was when I lost my patience. Likely going back.
Also, today I was on the phone with a GM EV "concierge" to better understand how these charging processes work with the EV chargers (EVSEs) that come with the car. He often seemed kinda confused and finally said he needed to talk with his adviser. After a bit of a wait, he came back and advised me that his adviser had told him that their 120/240 charger would not provide power for battery condtioning. Who are these people?
I plug in but delay charging too in order to take advantage of reduced rates late at night so I think the way the charger loses communication would be an issue for more people than you think. I agree they should change this and fix the notifications some other way.
I spoke with EVIQO today, and they said this will likely change and that they already have a firmware variant to fix it. I'm hoping to try it out in the next few days.
Thank you for your comment. If you set the Delayed Start or Schedule on the charger's side - it works perfectly well. Josh prefers to use his Chevy Bolt's delayed start system as he wants his car to be ready for a specific time in the morning. However, the same can be reached if you just set the Delayed Start on EVIQO and set the battery limit on the car. At the end of the day - the battery will be charged and the car ready to go in both scenarios. For those clients who want to use the charging smart features on the car's side (instead of EVIQO charger), we have a special firmware version.
Will this company ship you a NACS cable to switch from J1772 once it becomes more mainstream? Would also like to see more configuration options on the internal dip switch. Thanks for showing the inside of this unit! Bolt EUV owner here too. Delayed charging is awesome and I would love to see if this company solves the delayed charging conundrum via a software or firmware update. And, of course, love to hear your thoughts. Thanks for a great review.
Thank you for the comment! NACS version is coming soon. With the smart functions being set on the charger - everything works perfectly. For those EV owners that has personal preferences on scheduling - we created a separate firmware. We will update Josh's device soon.
What we tried to do - meet the needs of the EV owners. This device is created by the EV owners for the same fellow EV-users. Installation flexibility is important, so we equipped our EVSE with the input cable which allows you to mount the device on an adequate level.

I love the PCB board review part, and look forward to seeing more of your charger reviews!
Thank you! You didn't have long to wait as I just released a new one this morning.

Nice, thanks for the response and clarification. I appreciate you following up and the effort you put into this charger, I know Tom M liked it too 👍
@@renuing yes, and thank you for following us!

The input cable being longer means it doesn’t conform to J1772 specs which dictate 1-foot/30cm. Granted, I still prefer it to be longer. :)
Yea. It never made sense to me why they limit it so severely.

great video...could this be used on a tesla model y ?
It will, but in the current version you’ll need the J1772 to NACS adapter. I’m guessing EVIQO will soon have an NACS-equipped version.
