Tosca, Austrian maestros of the mix , pay homage to their Jamaican forebears in CHOCOLATE ELVIS DUBS; an album containing instrumental dub versions of the single "Chocolate Elvis." Featuring the production talents of likeminded downtempo merchants like Rocker's Hi-Fi and Bullitnuts, the album is a unique excursion into the possibilities of the remix. Using a limited palette of vocal samples and drum breaks, each track is restructured through the creative use of sampling and other production trickery. On Baby Mammoth's "Graceland Dub," the word "shake," stutters into rhythmic fits of apoplexy--a weird cyborgized visage of "The King" himself. - เพลง

In 1995 Richard Dorfmeister created a side project with an old school friend, Rupert Hubert. Rupert tapes all kinds of odd voices and sounds with a portable recorder. He was in New York and there was a street musician who was playing and joking that he was the Chocolate Elvis. Rupert taped him and with Richard he created Tosca’s version of “Chocolate Elvis” in 1995.
Name Tosca taken from from Jiacomo Puccini’s opera. The instrumental version of “Choloclate Elvis” - which is calling “Instrumental Puccini” on the same EP - contain a microsample from Tosca, Puccini’s opera. So, thats a story behind the band name :) After four years, in 1999, when Tosca duo had a regognition, Richard and Rupert released a sequel: collection of dub versions from Tosca friends. A beautiful 54-minute downbeat joke about one song :)
