sir i want to ask whether atom gets excited or electron because u told in emission spectra atom gets excited to its higher state..please reply soon
What exactly are these lines and I think if n stands for the orbit number (energy level) then as an electron comes from higher energy level to lower energy level then it loses energy, and also for example: if an electron comes from 2nd orbit to 1st orbit it loses less energy compared to an atom moving from 6th orbit to 1st orbit to attain stability. Then if the electron loses different amounts of energy for movement from different energy levels then it should have different frequencies (wavelengths) of radiations emitted which means they should have different emission spectra, but you said for an atom of an element, emission spectra is unique, but it can't be because it has different wavelengths for different energies and so different spectrum. Did I make a mistake in understanding? Can you explain me clearly what's happening and what is right?
Srinivas Adireddi Different elements emit different emission spectra when they are excited because each type of element has a unique energy shell or energy level system. On the basis of this fact he said that each element has a unique emission spectra. U misunderstood what he said.
