- Residents in the Irvington Neighborhood in Fremont are growing frustrated over people living in their RVs while parked near their homes. They say their generators are loud and creating health issues. Meanwhile, families in the RVs say they’re just trying to get by. Jocelyn Moran reports.

I wouldn’t want that in my neighborhood to, but the lady that says “ prisoner in my own home” come on now, let’s not get ridiculous. I hope the rules get changed, and the RVs get moved.
If your worried about the type of person who is in the rv, I could see how it feels that way.
She also states her son has asthma, too be honest I’ve never knew asian can get asthma 😮
Karen.
Perfectly said thank you, Wouldn't want it in my neighborhood but that lady was being ridiculous
What about the generator noise at all hours?
That’s a loud a$$ generator I’m not gonna lie. That sound would piss me off lmaoo
I would be angry too.
They could have bought a quieter generator, but they cost more.
No code enforcement. Where are they dumping their holding tanks?
I’ve seen a few use storm drains…. Many of them drain directly into the Bay.
It's always in the street which, as the other commenter mentioned, usually goes directly into the bay.
They probably throw them into Lake Elizabeth at 10 P.M.
It goes into the ocean which is full of fish poo anyway, its safe
Fish eat waste materials
People have been parking and living in RVs around the Bay Area for decades. 20 years ago there were a couple of people living in an RV with at least 2 large dogs living with them near where I was living in San Leandro. The dogs would bark like crazy every time I left my home. I didn’t blame the dogs and I felt bad for them being penned up in a small space like that all day, every day. I left them alone because I figured that they were experiencing hard times until a couple of times they cursed me out because “I was making their dogs bark” when I left my home. As the people were becoming more aggressive and I had to go in and out of my house, I called the police to tell them to move on. I told a friend of mine about this later and, as it turns out, they were previously parking in front of my friend’s dad’s house in Castro Valley. They were also forced to leave there because of yelling at the neighbors and the dogs.
A guy just got arrested in Los Angeles for having a dungeon in the back of his van.
Do not trust these people to not be dangerous.

Is running a generator all day long in a residential area legal?
Yes it is. Ok NIMBY.
Some cities have noise ordinance after 10pm.
Yes what a stupid question
If they parked these scroat boats in front of the homes of city council members or elites they would be gone immediately. Believe it.
the RVs park in the most expensive area and bother everyone in the area- a commercial parking area near the city area is more appropriate place to have a RV park
It’s called 4 hour parking. What is so hard about that???????
you sir a a nimby
or 1 hr zone
@@seinundzeiten hey sir sorry you can't afford to live in a hoa community like anyone worth anything so you must deal with these things make more money simplest solution. Must be hard having limited income. I'm sorry for your loss.
In my nebihorhood (a major city) it's 2 hr parking and you need a permit for anything longer than that and there is an app to report parking and a ban on RV street parking/bus idling. The legal way is essentially trailer parks where you pay a small amount of rent which is what this city should force them to do which is only like $175 a month
@@HunkMine welp buddy you better goto a city console meeting and propose a ordinance change because california you have to basically have a brand new rv or trailr less than 10 years old to even be considered to rent. Now do you think these people can afford a new RV which is about 150k now or a new trailer which start at 70k?. if they could afford those they'd be able to rent but nope california law 3.5X rent to even be considered for a apartment and bay area apartments cost a average of 2500-3600 a month for a family sized rental. so these people need to make basically 9k a month to even rent which is just shy of 100k a year. do you understand the average income for californians is about 40-50k a year?. what world are you living in?. not everyone is in tech and even county and state employees on make about 15-20 dollars a hour. SOOOO mr 175bucks a month again what world do you live in?. they don't call it lala-land for nothing.
Very simple: charge any RV parked for more than 3 days in a month an RV tax, which will be only slightly less than rent.
They will all disappear.
While cops get 39k a month for overtime they don’t nah buddy these ppl can park there no problem ur a sicko
Parking is one thing, running your engine or generator 24-7 is another. Would they allow trucks or busses to idle all day. In an RV Park you have to hook up to the utilities, you can’t run on a generator. This is an easy fix. Parking is temporary, being in one place for 3 months isn’t parking.
this RV guy used to park in Mountain View smoking cigarettes and running an old generator all night...glad he moved
What about waste tanks?
Wrong. Liberals talk about getting rid of zoning, this is the result. Deal with it
They are probably doing a Breaking Bad and cooking meth in those RVs. 😂
irvington house price jumped to 2 mil maybe they should have realized they're pricing out normal people
Prisoner in her own😂home
That is capitalism. You get what you sow. Work harder and you maybe able to live in these areas.
Cities need to build RV camping spots
This is so UnAmerican. No designated Settler's landings? Can't "the Great Father" in "their White House" find reservations for these new "Savages" now?
Designate parking lots. Fremont has a lot of unused space. Especially Churches.
Change the laws, enforce the laws, industrial, commercial areas can also become totally destroyed if not inspected. Fremont home owners/residents pay tens of thousands of $$$ in property taxes for quiet, clean air, quality roads, utilities inspections and safety.
Why do they have to park in a nice neighborhood? Why not have them park in the hood?
😂😂😂
Safety Knuclehead😮
They do park in the hood.
Good, glad homeless are camping out on nice neighborhood, hopefully they'll become Republican.
So sad!
I knew the neighbor they would get on camera would be Indian. That area is heavily Indian due to Google and Apple and when they come into the Bay Area, they drive up the prices, making a city that should be moderately priced too expensive. Gentrifying an area doesn’t give you a right to exile the locals. We shouldn’t have to work for a tech company to live there. I wish these tech companies would move to Oklahoma and take their employees with them.
There is a simple solution. Approve every developer plan to build housing. Flooding the market with supply will solve the shortage of housing, thereby stopping engineers from prying housing away from non-engineers.
Yeah cuz White and Asians don’t make any money in the Bay Area 😂 come on dude, stop the racism.
biden's team wanted people to quit mining and learn how to code. maybe locals should learn how to code like biden said and they would be wealthy too?
Exactly. On top of that almost all of them are here ILLEGALLY! the irony... 🤦🏻
@@lambertlum1087 doesn't make sense when you have people like in the video ready to sweep all "affordable" housing into rental properties. Thus the current housing crisis....
2:31 get out of their neighborhood!
That generator is obliged to the same noise restrictions as landscape & construction work hours. It also sounds like it exceeds the dB limit.
When you don't speak the language of the host country, you are not going to make ends meet and you set your kids back one generation, in climbing the ladder of success.
Other cities offer housing, but they don’t want to move there, that’s the problem
What city? There's literally a national housing shortage of over 5 million plus houses. So again what city has housing because rent is on average $3000 for just a studio and that doesn't happen by accident that happens because we have stopped building housing and continue to not build any housing. When people value their property values over people we end up with situations like this that pin families against families as they fight each other for survival. This is literally only the beginning unless we change something like building more housing.
@@ky9616 Sacramento, Folsom, Woodland, list goes on…, they can move out of the Bay Area if they find it expensive, San Jose has a housing program that puts families first and provides an apartment under 2500, you should read more about city services, there is no housing crisis, inflation yes, but there is absolutely no housing crisis, homeless advocates have been feeding us the misinformation for a good amount of time. I live myself in a below market rate apartment for 2 years, a 1 bed 1 bath for which I paid 2000 in downtown San Jose
Thought you can only park on sidewalks for 7 consecutive days, then have to move vehicle?
I think that it’s 72 hours in most places.
@@lmcc0072That's what I thought too. I thought it's a California-wide thing
“Don’t go falling in love with it now. Cause We’re taking it with us when we leave next month”
Ironically the woman on camera probably caused housing prices to go up. Fremont is thenmist exoensive in the Bay and drove up prices in UC and Newark as well. Its bc of the tech industry and workers who continue to pay at such high prices that have displaced so many and have forced many locals into cars and RVs. I know bc im a local struggling as well.
Not every body makes that kind of money in tech to buy even 700k homes. They do not even have stable jobs in tech. Very minuscule amount of people make money to buy homes there. Many of these homes are cash trans. So, there is a swarm of pandoras boxes to be opened. This is a completely different ball game.
more like 1 million dollars
The Irvington district especially the Irvington high school area over the years has gone downhill with the lack of city resources for homeless.
RVs are for traveling, not living out of it full time.
If it’s your only option then yes it is for living in! Yourself and many others are only a handful of paychecks away for being in the same situation.

No one wants RVs being parked in their neighborhood. They should ban them being parked in neighborhoods. I don't care if it's a public street. I do not believe where I live that it's legal to park an RV on public street in my county. These people don't pay rent and are leeches in these neighborhoods.
The people with complaints like this are usually the people who are the most against the development of housing. When you protect your property values over people the system tends to find other ways to lower your property values. You reap what you sow.
It’s not complex at all. Make it illegal, issue citations, goodbye problem.
Lol as if that will solve the housing crisis that we have. You are dumb.
As long as they move every 72 hours they can park in the same spot.
If Freemont is an expensive place to live, then that's good. People who cannot afford to live there should go someplace else.
Food and living shouldn’t be taxed, that is basic requirement for human. Property tax makes home prices skyrocketing. Other guy live the apartment parking in front of my commercial properties or my house, why not those rv? For safety is just excuse, the RVs most time are parked.
The apartment was zoned for living. Sidewalks are not. Everyone deserves a place to live. But not anywhere they want. As much as it sucks, reality is, we live in a world of scarcity and everyone must live within their budgets and move around accordingly.
It's companies like black rock that buy up all the houses and increase the rents astronomically. Housing is the biggest crisis since the great depression.
@@dquan731 why should they zoned? Just for the beautiful of the neighborhood? The laws / code were set up to easy council and city make more money. I have said living shouldn’t be taxed, inspection should not be operated by city, this is the reason so many homeless in USA, compared with Asia countries.
@@johnwagons4707 not sure I understand what you mean by why the city should not zone? Zoning keeps order in the city. You really don’t want to live next to manufacturing plants.
And not taxing land? Sure, the city can do that. But they have to make it up with either higher income tax or sales tax. Both of which hurt the lower income people just as much.
Property tax does not cause housing to skyrocket. It’s demand. It’s the lack of housing.
These landlords gotta drop the rent man, c'mon. The property taxes ain't jump that high.
Walmart use to let RV people park in their parking lot. Don’t know if that’s changed
It has changed in many of the Walmart's, I believe there are still some that allow it.
Alameda county sheriff does not allow it. Just like how they don't sell guns in Walmart
They are on public property. There is nothing they can do.
This is not right..
They need some whisper quiet generators, like the Honda Brand
im living in my lamborghini....
Why do they need to park in expensive areas? In San Jose there's a ton of these RVs, a lot of them are doing shady things from selling drugs to prostitution out of them. Force them to either park in SF or in the woods or something.
Why should the rich be shielded from the homelessness crisis they helped create? Enjoy your generator noise :^)
@@Jutland1780 What you need to do is get your neighbors together and pressure the mayor, city council, sheriff, etc… into doing something. If these elected officials run the risk of being voted out of office, they will do something.
How's the "Fremont has a heart" thing working out?
The State and the Governor need to take action Ban these public nuisances from the streets of California. Possibly build a park out in the desert.
she summed it up so well ! California is a shit show everywhere. I am glad I moved to Texas 10 years ago.
Still better than seeing a lot of tent
City should ban RV completely. Those cheapskates in RV can go somewhere else like NV desert if they don’t want to pay rent and flip burgers for $25/hr.
They have to ban overnight/extended parking on the streets. Then lots of homes will go into foreclosure as they are all renting rooms and parking permanently on streets
Try parking in a HoA neighborhood. They'd Karen the he'll out of you.
California cities need to find solutions that help people and families get off the streets permanently. The homeless problem is the worse it's ever been.
Move to a place that isn't so expensive. Simple.
Won't make any sense when everything around the Bay area is insanely expensive.
A 2 room apartment in Fremont is $3500 😂 or near that ball park … also the Indians have completely taken over 😂
@@georgeallen4007 All of them are illegally here!
I don’t know about that but what I do know is that most of them make 150k-200k while the rest of the normal people make 40k-50k … there is no way to compete with them
I love hearing solutions from uneducated sloths that are tone deaf. Quite sure they aren't from this state, but have so much snarky comments to make.
And The Border is open 👐🏻
I thought this was the happiest place in the U.S ?!?!?!
The only problem here is the rich people who can't see that these families in the rvs are atleast trying to be good citizens. I'd rather have rvs parked on the sidewalk by my house than homeless sleeping in my lawn the fact that they are trying instead of being lazy and shooting up in your driveway so rich people think about how your literally trying to put a family into homelessness all cuz ur little kid has asthma if he can't handle air than he ain't gunna make it in life anyways
Even if those parking spaces are returned, they're always filled with people that park there all day. No sane person is looking for parking spaces in that shopping corridor.
Shouldn’t even be in the city if you can’t afford to live there.
Jobs are everywhere but start somewhere affordable. Get out with your RV. Doesn’t make sense to be living in a safe RV area within a city you can afford.
Rent is $3000 on average for a studio, where do you think in the US it's affordable because it's certainly not any state that I know of.

They also throw their trash, including their used needles, right out their RV door and leave it. They dump their sewage tanks into the storm drains.
They dump most of their Caca into Lake Elizabeth and that explains the watercolor and foul stench.
Perhaps a relocation to a City County vacant open space to be used as a place for RV’s, trailers, cars and trucks to park safely. This would definitely clean up the neighborhood.

it's easy for you to judge these people when you are well off but unless you have experienced hardship like they do, you shouldn't be shitting on them. the whole community and the city just need to figure out a solution for the unhouse. maybe create a safe space parking with the community kitchen, shower and restroom and just charge them a reasonable fee every month. remember these people are the ones doing low paying customer service jobs that you do not want to do so don't be so quick to criticize and form opinions about them. they are humans just like you and they have the right to live.

Most Walmarts stopped doing that because of rising crime in their lots. Not only were the tenants fighting or creating disturbances, but car break-ins were becoming more frequent. A couple of years ago I went into a local Walmart for just 20 minutes. When I got out the window of the car next to me had been smashed out. It was still daylight.

Since they are not welcomed in most places, it makes sense if they are living in RV'S.

Is it bad enough yet?
I feel bad for the people living in the RVs. When you’re in that situation, some of the excess or luxury comforts you once had in your former home will have to be discarded. That means downsizing to the bare minimum. You cant have a bunch of stuff overloaded in your vehicle and cause an eyesore in public, nor can you have a generator on longer than necessary. Cook your food, then turn off your generator. If it’s a hot day, then somewhere indoors that’s cooler. Dont use the generator all day to power an A/C unit. Keep the area around your vehicle clean. Keep yourself clean and presentable as much as possible. Be friendly if confronted, otherwise be as invisible as possible.
Having said that, the locals will still complain and enact laws to kick you out because they deem you “unsafe” like that Indian lady 🤣
