Trying to be a husband and raise a family on the road is incredibly tough. Hats off to these Real Men. My husband is a Master Electrician. He had to travel for a short while to make ends meet, but by the time our third child came, that was enough. There are other ways to make a living and truly money can't buy back time lost. Having him home every night for dinner and to sleep in our bed is a luxury worth more than anything. He's an incredible Man, husband and Dad. It takes all kinds and our Skilled tradesmen help to make this world turn in more ways than most would realize!!! A huge THANK YOU to all the men out there providing and making it happen. Yeah Okay.. 230Kv power line attached right to the tower with metal hardware. So those twin 18 part suspension insulators on the other lines below are just for aesthetics I guess. C'monnnn
@@michaelstollairetbarceo3287 The lines that were being handled in the video are not the HighVoltage lines on the structure. They are static or lightning wires (or a ground or earth or neutral wire). Often on these high structures that are placed at the very top above the energized lines to be hit my lightning and are connected to a wire and/or the steel structure and to the ground to discharge lightning currents to the earth bypassing the rest of the equipment to prevent damage to switching gear, transformers and prevent power outages. These lines under ideal circumstances carry no load. The other lines are hung from strings of insulators because THEY are energized lines and without the insulators they would short out on the steel towers or burn down wooden poles and the system would just never work. Those insulators keep the power in the wire where it belongs. Thats why power lines everywhere overhead are always attached to some grey or brown or glass object and not just tied to poles. I was wondering the same but here in FL we do everything differently. Like we don't use the helicopter (Fly) as much as we use the skidder (Moe). Anyways keep the lines up and boots down boys!
That's fiber, it's typically bonded to the structure. If it were conductor The lineman would bond himself and the bird to the line so they're all at the same potential. And obviously not touch the structure and the wire at same time with anything conductive. You pay close attention to your limit of approach and all the equipment your using including your barehand suit. No need to ground and deenergize

This is epic, but, the smart thing to do would be to carry a spare line, so line could be inspected when power off. Also, sure you could use drones to inspect lines nowadays?
Most of these power companies can't turn the power off it has to be worked on live. I don't know why if it's too much money to cut the power off or what but most lines are always live when they work on them.
I can dig the title. But... the job when a natural gas line is broken or damaged, my dumbass jumps in the hole to fix it. One little spark from static or electric charge and it’s a bad day.

You'd get electrocuted in a crane because you'd have a direct line to ground. Unless the whole crane was insulated but there are still places you could never get a crane
Their doing a terrible job explaining the double dead end fiber optic job on the lattice structure. Should of hired a journeyman lineman to do the voice over or atleast explain it to the voice over guy.
