" Their own gravestone forgot who they were "
Damn that's incredibly deep and poetic.

"Their own gravestone forgot who they were." Wow, that's very profound, man. Seriously. And you're so right when you talk about how you have a lot of strange thoughts when you walk through a very old cemetery. As I've said before in a comment on one of your videos, I'm 55 years old, so I know young people look at me as being ancient and close to kicking off and ending up in a grave myself. I do think about such things, of course, but not as much as young people might think.
One thing I like about growing a bit older is that when you're my age you don't fret over things in life as much as when you're much younger. You learn that things just are what they are and, as the very old saying states, this, too, shall pass. Whatever problems or difficulty there is in life currently will be resolved or overcome soon enough and life moves on. The challenges in life that we all face seem smaller and less significant when you get at least to middle age.
So knowing that I am significantly closer to the end of life and whatever that brings is not as ominous at my age as you might think when you're much younger.
When I walk through the very old cemetery where my family members are who have passed on, I have fond memories of those family members and it is sad, of course, but it doesn't overwhelm me or make me fear being there myself someday. And the grave you found from 1775 is extremely interesting. I LOVE history and I think about how different Brooklyn would have looked back when that person was born. So you saw a truly historic gravestone there. I'm sure there are many in that cemetery.
One thing I think about when I am standing at such an old gravesite is that the people who attended that person's funeral all stood right there as the graveside funeral service was done. Their family and friends and fellow church members. Again, I think about what they would see and the scene around them as the funeral happened. They would have lived in a completely different world and all of the skyscrapers and modern structures would not have existed yet. It would be so interesting to be able to take a walk through their version of NYC and all of its boroughs. I know that may sound weird, but I can't help but think about such things in such an old cemetery. There are many other things I think about in old cemeteries and those other things are rather creepy, but again, my mind just goes there automatically.

10/10 comment. I hadn’t even thought about the fact that many of these graves certainly were surrounded by their respective family members during the funeral. I’ll keep that in mind next time I was around through there.

@@FortuneStories I live VERY far from New York and I would love to visit there again someday and walk through the old cemeteries there, including the one in this video. You walking through there sparked my interest in the cemeteries there and how historic they are. It seems that so many people miss just how historic and important cemeteries in pretty much any area are, but especially those up in cities like where you live and also Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, Buffalo, and so many other historic cities of the north and northeast. People easily think about the historic landmarks, but don't think about the cemeteries.
Just about every person who has ever died is in a cemetery, of course. So just the fact of their existence in their respective cemeteries speaks of the historic value of cemeteries.
So you are very wise to encourage others to visit a cemetery and just think about our life and how each of us have our own unique existence and will all be in a cemetery somewhere someday. Yes, some people might think it morbid to visit such a place, but just as you said, it puts our minds in a mode of thinking about just how special life is and how we can all learn to appreciate life as we live it. You've got a good head on your shoulders in recommending such contemplation and appreciation.
One other thing to think about in regard to the person in the 1775 grave is that during their lifetime there were some HUGE things that were amazingly historic that occurred. George Washington was president during part of their lifetime. The Declaration of Independence was signed. The Bill of Rights. Many states became states. There are also, of course, many historic things that hadn't occurred yet during that person's lifetime. The Civil War, both World Wars, the discovery of atomic energy and radiation that also led to the making of atomic weapons. The advent of automobiles. So the person in that grave never saw, heard of, or rode in a car of any kind. They would have been transported to their funeral in a horse and carriage hearse. I always think about how many things they wouldn't have any idea of during their entire lifetime. Again, they lived in such a different world. So, again, your idea in regard to thinking about life intently is a very good one because of how much we have that others in the past didn't because it didn't exist yet. We can think about how much we have in general and also how much we have that our ancestors didn't. We do have a lot to be thankful for.
Thank you for being encouraging in this way. I know it will really get people thinking.

My dad is the part owner of a funeral home where I live, and I’ve spent a lot of time helping him either work funerals or setting veterans grave markers.
When we set markers it’s usually in normal cemeteries in town, but sometimes a family will have a private cemetery that’s way outside of town and into farm country. I always look around at the stones.
There was one of some baby named “Sarah” who was alive for one month before dying in 1856.
I like going to these cemeteries in particular since there are a lot of Union veterans buried out there.
The ones that really get me are the ones that are faded out. There was once a name there but it’s lost to time. Really sad that all memory is the person is now gone, we’ll never know what they were like or what they lived through.

I think bout that very thing when in an old cemetery, too. I think that everyone probably thinks about that very thing when at a cemetery, but they just don't admit it or talk about it. I think they believe it is inappropriate to talk about something like that in regard to the grave and the remains in it.
I know that I've thought about such things since I was a child. It's just something that we humans are going to think about. So yeah, it's morbid, but not inappropriate like people seem to think it is. I think about all kinds of creepy things when I'm in an old cemetery.

Agreed, and thanks!! I literally just put conditioner (like plain old conditioner) in it after the shower. Nothing else, and it seems to come out fine 🤷🏻‍♂️ I have no idea what I’m doing when it comes to hair lmao
