The old wooden grandstand. I remember sitting there watching races! It burned down in Sept 65 during the State Fair. Along with much of the rest of the buildings. I lived maybe 2 miles away.

Just found today on 5-1-08. Very cool footage. I grew up at Nashville Speedway from late 1974 thru 1983. I love some of this old footage from the fairgrounds days - especially with that lowered banking.

The old 1/2 mile track. I didn't go until around 63 or 64, I guess. I'll have to show this to my dad. He'll remember this!

I love how people are just standing by the side of the track and walking across the entrance to pit road while cars are flying by on the track.

this race ended up being the first carrer victory for johnny beauchamp. The race was shortened to 333 laps due to rain.Only 2 cars finished on the lead lap while chevys and plymoths sweeped the top 11 positions 1,2,3,5,10,11,and 12.

I remeber a Sunday afternoon at Salem Speedway in 1960, I watched cars that looked just like these do, it was most likely an ARCA race. Frank kimmel's dad Bill Sr. ws fast up there as was Chargin Charlie Glotzbach. I bet they were a handful to drive, no power steering and what they had was so damn slow you better let caster steer it for a if it gets loose. Come to think of it they didn't run much caster, they were too hard to turn if ya did. Those old cars hauled some serious ass.

Beatelsnut, Ford (Starliners) won more NASCAR/ Grand National races for 1960 than Chevy did!

@@1979cl1 General Motors didn't even know where victory lane was in the 1960's in Nascar. Ford and Chrysler DOMINATED it.

Great video. Wished I could find more of these. That idiot mayor Karl Dean is going to tear it down. There's still a small fight going on to keep the track, but I'm sure it's gone this time. What a waste of history and a great shame. And a great loss to the racing community. I can't afford to drive to another asphalt track, so I guess I have to go back to dirt.

#44 is Jim Paschal. King Richard was in his usual #43

@dwc4343 Make that a LARGE fight to keep the track. It's not gone yet, not if we can help it! Screw Bobby Hamilton Jr. He has done more damage in less time than any lease holder/ promoter before him ever has.

I just feel sorry for the people who didn’t get to watch a Nashville 420 under the lights at the Nashville Fairgrounds...if you did, you’ll see exactly why I think today’s nascar is shit...
