Making use of the th-cam.com/users/postUgkxcJ22tnHH9l1vjdIdEIG27iOG55P7LXI8 reconditioning plan, I just saved 2 auto batteries from being completely junked. The guides were very simple to follow. I wish I would have found this years ago! You may use the guide to recondition any battery type
I want to sincerely thank you for the best Prius HV battery removal video. I'm 70 years old with no mechanical experience. I followed your procedure and was surprised how quickly I completed the replacement. Everyone should know, the codes won't go away until you clear them with a scanner. My friend had the scanner and an app on his phone. We cleared the codes in minutes. One of the codes said, clean the throttle body. So I found a video and cleaned it. My car runs purrrrfect now !! THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!!!!!!
10:30 DANGEROUS!! You could mislead people into prying with something not insulated and thats 300 volts of instant dc death. pry carefully only along the edges with an insulated handle.
These packs are fairly safe to work on AFTER you pull the orange cut out plug on the rear of the pack (frame1:19) . Those HV 300V leads you mention are totally dead when you pull that plug. Of course there are still idiots out here that will blindly blunder around in the pack so let me warn them that there is STILL 160V in two places even with the big orange plug pulled. Also accidentally shorting between a pos and neg terminal ANYWHERE on the cells can cause a fire. Even at 15V there is a lot of energy in there! So work safely, please.
Thanks guys!!! I recently had 1 bad cell ID'd and used this video a lot to initially get the HV pack out and then I used other vids to show me how to change the bad cell. This would have saved me hundreds or more on paying someone to do it. Interestingly though, my car is the exact same model (same colour even) as this one but it does not have the back seat braces and the back seat part where you rest your back has a bolt on each side of the car instead, with a central bolt to the chassis floor. This was way harder to unbolt and do up again than the way your car here is made so maybe Toyota changed it to make it easier? MIne is 2002 what year is this one exactly?
what do you mean juice? the battery is continously recharges by the engine when needed. else the engine stays off. you change a battery when you notice that it cant keep its charge for a long time.
I am planning to replace battery for 2002 Prius 144k miles this week and your video make me more confident. I have a question: When we install new battery which is fully recharged, do we need to discharge it? Is there any electrical risk here? Thank you very much !
No need to discharge a new pack to use it in the car. I do however urge you to use the Dr. Prius app to determine the condition of your new pack's cells. It would also have been wise to do the same to the old pack. Usually there are only a few modules that are weak and those can be replaced for about $20-30 each. Repairing a Prius pack is not very hard if you have some common sense and decent mechanical skills. I dont think it is much harder than changing brake linings for the most part.
hi.im having problem wid my 2004 toyota pirus.orange engine checklight, red triangle wid an exclamation mark.da car can b driven but when an orange exclamation mark in bracket cmes then da engine jerks and marks a noise as if smethng is breaking in da engine.da car wil start but wil not mov n no accelaration when gas pedal is psessed.can anyone help me knw what is wrong.
Repair or replace the hybrid pack and recharge or replace the 12v battery in the trunk. Then drive it a bit to see if any codes return. Make additional repairs as needed. FYI The Dr. Prius app at the Google play store is free and easy to use with Android. Very helpful to determine the condition of the cells in the hybrid pack.
Hello same problem right here do you fix the problem of your car? I have the exact the same problems with my car did you find out or any advise that you can help me. Thank you.
If I were to use one of those high wattage inverters that connect directly to the battery, should I connect them to the hybrid battery, or the small car battery? Would it cause any issues?
I watched a simular video and took him 7 mins... and he provided comfort music to give you a boost. they guy's are taking the whole car apart just for a battert....smh. you don't have to do all that check out his down below.

The orange circle part that you pried out you're supposed to use the fuse to turn the inner parts to unlock it.
The orange fuse from the left side?
Thanks, very helpful. Made the removal a 15 minute job.
Thanks! Nice video on the removal! Anything on installation, I suppose just play the video in reverse!
Great job guys 👍🇱🇷

this video should be taken down. these guys have no clue what they are doing. it's potentially lethal dealing with a 230 volt system.
