Two rookie FBI agents (Leslie Bibb and Jeffrey D. Sams) are assigned to the bureau's Richmond, Virginia branch, where their story parallels that of a local mob boss, Jonah Malloy (David Paymer). When a fellow agent is murdered in a shootout with the gangsters, the head of the FBI branch (Leslie Hope) declares an all-out war on the criminal underworld. The following episodes weaved intricately between Bibb and Sams' federal agency and Paymer's gang, though the two storylines rarely met head-on, except when occasionally focusing on an undercover agent (Anson Mount).

Gotta say, Jonah Malloy is one of the best bad guys I've seen in a while. Calm, cool, evil, and smart. Perfect storm.

Mid-season replacement. Originally aired 2003. The series sets up for a crime mob showdown with the FBI, but was placed on hiatus after only 9 episodes. The last 4 (of the 13) episodes were shown out-of-of-order in some areas.

It took me the scene at Malloy's home to realize he was married to Christina Applegate. Good for her for stretching her range.
Christina Applegate was not part of "Line of Fire." Neither was anyone that she was married to. [Johnathon Schaech (m. 2001-2007), Martyn LeNoble (m. 2013)].

Yeah, I am beginning to see why this was cancelled. The acting is decent, not always spectacular but the writing is barely decent.

Yeah, I can see why this show tanked so bad and got cancelled even before the series had ended. They really smashed audiences with the whole equity & female empowerment angle.
People hate being preached to by upper middle class Hollywood liberals. This does an obvious job at that.
At the time there were far superior shows to watch in this time slot.
And the characters and stories are unbelievable. And everything is so contrived.

I dunno. Write something better. The mirroring of FBI & mafia is quite clever IMHO.
This series is slow and has defects in almost every way from the characters to the directing to the writing. It is all bubble gum. You chew and it gets tasteless and bitter.
