Hey Matt good to see you infront of a camera. See you have an open house coming up might have to stop in for it.

Can you do this with a G41 and program the part edge rather than toolpath so it can be adjusted later? Would you consider the center of the ball for diameter and length?

Is there any place in a machine shop like this for a software engineer? I do mostly software but in my personal time I like to tinker with hardware and one of the things that really interest me is cnc machining. Would be cool to learn about these things while also working there.

You would need an apprenticeship in tool and die making or Machinist. You have to learn a LOT about how speeds and feeds work, the type of tooling, the metal you're working with, temps, etc. All that has to be learned on the floor, because it can't be replicated in pure software.

Does the feed rate stay model in the sub program?

    That is neat.

This was a great example of simple hand programming creating a nice adjustable tangent radius. Plus I love the double for cabinets with drawers. I wonder what brand those are.

I hate to be that guy... but wouldn't it be easier just to CAM it up with a couple clicks?

For you, sure. Have you ever worked in a shop where there were more CNC technicians than CAM licenses? Lessons like this are helpful. I appreciate them taking the time to show us how it’s done!
