Who else is watching old tom brier vids to pass the time while he heals up, because you just know that no one can possibly match his skill in improvising or sight-reading songs on piano, so watching others perform Briers songs aren’t good enough for you?
@@calebroberts5422 In this video he's never heard or seen this song before. He's playing it the first time he's ever seen it. Add the fact that he embellishes notes that aren't there as he goes and it's quite the impressive skill. His is particularly well-honed, most people who can sight-read can't do it at speed plus making things up.

absolutely breaks my heart to have learned what happened to him and what he's currently going through. such an amazing talent, I wish him all the best and hope he has an expedient recovery
This guy is simply amazing. The dexterity required to play a song like this for the first time nearly perfectly on a piano must be insane. This is probably the first time he's heard the song himself and the fact that he played his first hearing of it so well on his first try is a sign of a talented pianist. Amazing video, amazing song, and an amazing man.
+Keeper1st he's mentioned it while playing the game with people, or when he's phoned to say hi to speed runners at events. I remember him saying it somewhere!
I would give my left testicle to be able to sight read that well, along with improvising on the fly at such pace. I'm in complete awe, you're like a modern-day Liszt.
Heh, no, it's from the Italian. "Loco" means "Location", thus the instruction is to play the notes at their notated location (as opposed to an octave or two differently as previously instructed).
Kyle Hart He annoys me for some reason...I don't know it it's the fact that he always has his shirt off, or that he is better at playing the piano than me :/
Tommaniacal His lack of a left hand (i.e. extremely simplified), and the general lifelessness of his playing bugs me, and is one of the reasons I thought some of these tunes should be put into the hands of someone who actually knows how to play this kind of music.
Keeper1st That might be it. He did a rendition of the rusty bucket bay theme, and literally all he did was play chromatic scales. That really irks me, because I like the later parts of the song better than the chromatic portions.
I've been waiting for Tom to play something from Banjo Kazooie for a very long time now. Thank you Keeper1st and Tom Brier, this was truly a great pleasure.
Hmm... I dunno; any number of other rags may have used those inversions, I suppose. In one of my rags, I have a repeated measure that, as it turns out, is note-for-note identical to a measure in Joplin's "Euphonic Sounds" even though how I get there is different and where I go from there is different. I never noticed until someone pointed it out. It's in the same key too!
It means "play an octave lower always" (or rather, until you see the command "loco" meaning return to normal). In the "Tarzan" section, the bass notes if played "8vb" would sound an octave lower.
The best part is that I *am* Italian and I didn't think about that, for some reason when I saw "loco" my first guess was that it was Spanish. Thanks again for explaining :)
He has occasionally mentioned comments now and again. He does subscribe to my channel (he has a TH-cam account but does not post anything) and has commented occasionally on some of my videos of my player piano rolls.
The Ice Cream Emporium sells more than just ice cream, to be sure. They serve sandwiches, chili, hot dogs, confections, fudge and other candies, plus toys and various novelty gifts. I posted a video a couple years ago called "Walking to the Sutter Creek Ice Cream Emporium" in which you can see what it looks like from the outside, and then I cross the street and walk in the door.

Unfortunately Tom suffered a serious head injury in a traffic accident a month ago and suffered brain damage. He may never play again, though we certainly hope that's not the case. As of yet he's unable to communicate or respond to commands, and his right-side movement seems quite limited. His eyes appear to have begun focusing, though, and he seemed to react to hearing one of his compositions playing on a CD player. So, there's some encouraging signs.
Oh, it's good to learn something new all the times, I thought "loco", meaning "crazy" in Spanish, was yet another indication, used to indicate a "crazy" bassline. Sometimes I say stupid things.
You don't read every note on the page. You read the melody and glaze over the rest enough to work out what the chord sequence is, then improvise. You basically treat it as a lead sheet.
Sadly, the only sheet music I could find of the game was the "Town" theme, and it's for the flute... Thankfully, I think Mr. Brier is plenty skilled enough to "briarize" it. I'll try and send you a link to the sheet music via TH-cam message, since they don't let you post links in comments. /:
