    Thank you so very much, to everyone who helped in this incredible rescue. I live in upstate New York, and was so blessed to have been able to adopt one of these girls, that were flown here from California, and brought to Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary. She is just a joy! Her name is Olivia, and she is now someone, not something. She is a member of our family. Her sisters and I love her so! Again, I can't thank you all enough, for all that you have done for these girls, and for bringing this angel into our lives. I am so very greatful

    You guys keep doing what you're doing, there are not enough nice comments in here that appreciate the work that you do! I still eat meat, but I swear to God that I will try to get rid of the bad habit. More people need to see this, it opened MY eyes up to the farming industry, keep on doing what you guys do best. Bless you people!

    Thank you Animal Place (and all volunteers), for being angel advocates for these
    chickens....We don't have to be a genius to know that chickens are intelligent and
    emotional, and they will even come running when their names are called (when
    people care enough to give them names)....The truth is, it doesn't matter how
    intelligent any animal is, because all Life is sacred, and every living being values
    their life (a gift from our Creator)...To stand up and defend the most helpless
    creatures, creatures that are seen as worthless, that is what true Compassion
    is all about....And Compassion is what human life should be all about....Our
    world needs to have some laws that won't allow people to overbreed animals
    to death....And our world needs to get over its prejudice against farmed animals!
    These chickens are just like cats and dogs... would we ever let 45,000 dogs or
    cats starve to death on just one farm? And if you watch this documentary to the
    very end, you will see (if you didn't already know) that the egg industry trashes
    millions of male chicks every year....These chicks are born just to be thrown into
    a grinder or a garbage bag! We need to see this problem in our world, and not
    turn our backs on it....Thank you Animal Place, for seeing these chickens as the
    precious individual beings they are....

    learning that every animal has a unique personality and realizing that they all have a sense of their own existence, just like us, is what makes you find out what the true meaning of life is. We all need to help each other exist and make life the least terrible that you can

      Justin Kesner Justin, I can't reply to your other comment for some reason, so I'll do so here: caring for animals and humans is not mutually exclusive. I work for a humanitarian organisation, that's what I spend all my working hours plus a lot of unpaid overtime doing. I'm also vegan, not just for the animals, but for the environmental destruction caused by the animal industries, which causes further humanitarian problems.
      I'd be interested to hear how all your watching of videos about cars and engines is helping the human race.
      As for animals not knowing what they're missing: If you stick a human in a cage in the dark from birth, he won't know what he's missing, either. That doesn't make it okay.

    • @justinkesner5099
      @justinkesner5099 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're fucking kidding me right? You got all that from me telling you how ridiculous you animal rights activists can be. I suppose we should stop all the predators in the animal kingdom from hunting their food? Or is it natural because it's not humans partaking in the act? You people are so full of shit. Without farming, we wouldn't eat. Next think you know, you fucking people are going to take this one step further and argue that Corn has feelings too, or that we shouldn't be mass murdering Corn. Just shut the fuck up. By the way, it's been proven that plants are conscious. So, how about you have a heart and eat a rock.

    • @justinkesner5099
      @justinkesner5099 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nephtys80 That's my fucking point. Chickens aren't humans, they are bred for human consumption. Are you seeing the difference here? A chicken doesn't think like a human does, Chickens are very fucking stupid animals. If they were intelligent, they'd likely be farming us. Get a grip on fucking reality. The difference between the car videos that I watch and this shit, is that I'm not trying to fool myself into believing I'm part of a cause. I watch car videos, because I like cars. You watch documentaries on the enslavement of chickens, because you believe it's terrible and want to appear as if you want to change it, but don't. If you understand that their not that well of, do you really need to watch another documentary about it? The same goes for cows, pigs, etc. Just assume the lives of all farm animals are terrible, then act. Don't go on youtube, claiming that because I watch car videos it's comparable to you. I'm not the one that gives a shit about these animals, you are. So until you come up with an alternative method of farming, shut your fucking mouth. Scientists are coming up with many different methods, but you wouldn't eat lab grown meat, would you? Well, I guess you're shit out of luck then. You must be a vegetarian? Oh, good for you! But, you should know, that the majority of people on this planet are omnivores, so again, you're shit out of luck. You're advocating a lost cause.

    When We raised chickens, I was a young boy at that time, we used crushed oyster shells to supplement the calcium that they need to produce eggs. We always allowed a portion of the eggs to hatch young to replace the older chickens. we sold the rest of the eggs. It was my job to clean the hen house too.

    Bless you for saving these chickens! I love my chickens. Are free range, no fencing, just know where home is, pick their own nest and sleeping area. Something said in the video confuses me. You say normal chickens lay 30 eggs/yr. Mine lay 1/day or everyother 9mo/yr. Not given hormones, eat organic, but never brood, so unless the eggs are picked up they will rot. Raise them right, they give you a good source of food so you dont have to buy the eggs in stores that come from cruelly raised birds.

    Being vegetarian is not equivalent to being dead in a "less developed" (whatever that means) environment - what peer-reviewed journal article did you get that from?
    Cows, chickens, and pigs are domesticated and fairly smart. Since when should either be a determinant for whether it is morally just to eat their flesh? That logic does not make much sense.

    During the 1930s and 1940s a man in Germany murdered people in the same way these poor chickens got murdered it seems like the world hasn't change at all. All life needs to be respected and treated equally, for all life is important, and compassion is the building block of Christianity and Buddhism but it seems that Christians forget about compassion when it comes to our avian friends.

    It is shocking how Annette Patton, director of Stanislaus Animal Services, refuses to ease the suffering of the chickens until confronted by the news media in the presence of Animal Place. I guess it should come as no surprise she is in lockstep with the poultry industry; an industry adverse to ethical or humane positions on animal treatment. And despite "deviations from standard industry practices", don't expect Andy Cheung, the owner of the chickens to be charged with animal cruelty.

    The majority of dogs are domesticated, fairly smart and total bros.
    Assuming we could communicate with cows, chickens and pigs I'd highly doubt they'd even understand the concept of a will.
    Humans are omnivores not herbivores, in this day and age we have the ability to choose what we eat, which in turn brings the freedom of being a vegetarian. In any less developed environment being a vegetarian is equivalent to being dead.

  • @LisaScharin
    @LisaScharin 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How is harvesting chickens the same as donating an organ? YOU make the CHOICE to donate an organ and it's on your license and in your will. YOU wouldn't use organs from a chicken, cow, pig or dog to put in your own body. Ridiculous statement!! We're not meant to eat animals. Our digestive systems are too long, our teeth are not sharp like a tiger's, lions. Compassion and mercy, kindness and caring are a sacred duty that many follow as Christians. Many cultures forbid the eating of flesh also.

    It's about ethics to make up for the cruelty they have endured to feed people cheap food. Cruelty is independent of species because it's about inflicting pain and inducing fear on innocent and defenseless victims. You have to decide for yourself what being ethical means to you. Being cynical is not much of an answer.

    I just don't understand why we can't come to a happy medium with the issue of farm animals. Are people so unwilling to pay more for their meat, eggs, and dairy? If the animals were raised and slaughtered more responsibly and with more respect to the animals, the prices would be higher, but we would still be able to enjoy torture free meals. It may cost more for bacon, but I'm sure people would just deal with it if they were forced to pay more, or find cheaper protein alternatives like soy.

  • @sandollor
    @sandollor 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    "When they become a problem, you put them in a canister and gas them." What else does that sound like?" It sounds to me like you are comparing a chicken to a human being; that's what it sounds like to me.
    I understand that the gassing of the chickens seems, and on most accounts is, un-needed cruelty, but I believe the government workers were functioning on a utilitarian level; they were trying to accomplish something the most efficient way possible. Unfortunately things cost money and though to act in a humanely way is always the better option it is not always the most plausible.
    I'm sad this happened; things could have worked out much differently if the local government and the farm owner had had the foresight and compassion to think things through and go about what needed to be done is a different manner instead of just walking away or taking the purely utilitarian approach. Our society needs to change before this can become the norm and I hope that one day it does, but I'm not going compare a human life to that of a chickens, sorry.

      +sandollor “As long as there are slaughter houses there will always be battlefields.” ― Leo Tolstoy
      You can't dismiss the suffering of animals and expect humans and human society to be unaffected by it. Everything we do to them reflects back on us. Sorry.
      I'm not even a bloody vegan and I can wrap my mind around this basic fact.

    • @sandollor
      @sandollor 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +jmk As long as there are humans, there will be battlefields; unless we change fundamentally as a species. Violence is human nature and it is also a part of nature. I am not dismissing the suffering of animals, but I do understand and accept what nature is and how its mechanisms function. And of course I am not talking about cereal killers and drive-by shootings. I am talking about killing an animal for food. Just to be clear.

    • @ileolai

    A less developed environment indiginous tribes for instance, any time prior the industrial revolution or perhaps even a post apocalyptic scenario. These all encompass having meat as your primary source of protein, anything else would not be sustainable or practical.
    Well, as for the morals behind eating their flesh I was responding with regards to their hypothetical free will. With free range and death of natural causes, would consent put the majorities mind at ease?

    What a waste of protein.
    I understand if you feel sorry for them, but why bury them?
    Eat the juicy bastards.
    Fatten them up a bit, painless execution, then into the oven.
    Worst case scenario you leave them skinny then grind them into nuggets.
    In my opinion harvesting chickens is the same as donating your organs.
    If organ donation didn't exist I'd be donating my body to the nearest cannibal, necrophile or witch doctor.
