The thing about receiving things on a regular like roses is that over time those things lose their value and are then looked at as customary without feeling. On the surface, Tiny and Tip seem like the oddest couple -- but listening to this podcast, you really do begin to understand just how they manage to make it work. The "secret" to their marriage (if you could call it that), as I see it, is that they both allow each other to be exactly who they are. Tip may interrupt a lot, he may say things that make people uncomfortable, but ultimately he defers to his wife almost entirely and allows her just as much freedom and space to express herself as he does himself. And in turn, Tiny is able to see the forest through the trees; She's able to withstand some of those minor character flaws because she knows that beneath that is a person she can truly get along with. In my mind, the only one here who really wasn't being truthful was Dina. Her views are all over the place. One minute she's reciting general relationship views you'd find in any woman's magazine, and the next she's talking about how women should be submissive to men. None of these things I think she actually believes, which is exactly why she probably can't find the right man to settle down with. She has no idea who she truly is, so how can she possibly know who the right man for her is? Tiny knows exactly who she is, as does Tip, so when they do have an issue within their marriage, both can be honest with each other and express exactly what they're lacking. This is how people truly get beyond conflict. You have to be mature enough to express exactly what your needs are, and be realistic enough to not have needs that are greater than your partner is capable of delivering. It's really that simple!

It's also very easy to see in his deference towards her that much of his maturation has come through their relationship together. Now this helped us to be friends and really get to know each other. We were never intimate but he would always tell me how much he wanted to be with me. Fast forward to almost 3years later, my feelings for him honestly grew , also I now had very beautiful reasons to give him a chance. At 4:03 I definitely agree that marriage is setting up a team. I completely agree with what he said. And that is why I believe EFFECTIVE communication is so important. I can appreciate the things Tiny has learned from her parent's relationship. The fact that her parents are of different races, causes the expectation of both parents to be vulnerable to the partner's life experiences and mental processes. He could not deny what she knew and she could not deny what she knew. So, with regard to certain decisions being made, one may be the expert on that subject and the other not so much. Marriage should allow for open communication and acknowledgment of uncertainty. Foer example, if I am an accountant, shouldn't I have the audiences when discussing finances? It doesn't matter what HE says, I am going to do and move based upon my expertise. I am not trying to be his teacher. If he wanted the job, then he should have gotten the education and experience for it? He would have gone to college. Spouse should be chosen based upon what you want to be responsible for in the marriage. There needs to be balance. The fact that Tiny comes from a home with a father who was a musician has given her the insight as a daughter and then wisdom of a mother and wife from her own Mother. I can see the pearls of wisdom that makes marriage make sense for T.I. and Tiny. T.I. definitely married the right woman.

The thing about receiving things on a regular like roses is that over time those things lose their value and are then looked at as customary without feeling. Similar to a person being told they're beautiful all the time. Eventually you're just like ok and thank you. But the initial makes you feel great and valued. On the surface, Tiny and Tip seem like the oddest couple -- but listening to this podcast, you really do begin to understand just how they manage to make it work.
The "secret" to their marriage (if you could call it that), as I see it, is that they both allow each other to be exactly who they are. Tip may interrupt a lot, he may say things that make people uncomfortable, but ultimately he defers to his wife almost entirely and allows her just as much freedom and space to express herself as he does himself.
And in turn, Tiny is able to see the forest through the trees; She's able to withstand some of those minor character flaws because she knows that beneath that is a person she can truly get along with.
In my mind, the only one here who really wasn't being truthful was Dina. Her views are all over the place. One minute she's reciting general relationship views you'd find in any woman's magazine, and the next she's talking about how women should be submissive to men. None of these things I think she actually believes, which is exactly why she probably can't find the right man to settle down with. She has no idea who she truly is, so how can she possibly know who the right man for her is?
Tiny knows exactly who she is, as does Tip, so when they do have an issue within their marriage, both can be honest with each other and express exactly what they're lacking. This is how people truly get beyond conflict. You have to be mature enough to express exactly what your needs are, and be realistic enough to not have needs that are greater than your partner is capable of delivering. It's really that simple!

@@keithwisdom1663 -- If he never made it past a drug dealer, she would've been foolish to stay with him. Condemning a woman for selecting a man who matures seems very short-sighted.
It's also very easy to see in his deference towards her that much of his maturation has come through their relationship together. The fact that he rose from a drug dealer to a highly successful, influential person while partnered with her speaks volumes to the role she's played in his life.
It's strange to me that anyone would view these two things as mutually exclusive. If she were any of the things you say, their relationship would've died years ago. It isn't like he can't afford a divorce. That they're still together says that he is also getting everything he wants/needs from their marriage.

Now this helped us to be friends and really get to know each other. We were never intimate but he would always tell me how much he wanted to be with me. Fast forward to almost 3years later, my feelings for him honestly grew , also I now had very beautiful reasons to give him a chance. I feel a lil bit of regret that I didn’t give in sooner but I wouldn’t also have it any other way. More than anything he’s been a very good friend to me❤ and always stood by me.

At 4:03 I definitely agree that marriage is setting up a team. I completely agree with what he said. And that is why I believe EFFECTIVE communication is so important. As I always say, “the grass is only green where you water it.” So you gotta understand how to communicate with one another, understand that your communication techniques are naturally different from each other, and realize that the journey isn’t going to be easy. But if you want a strong bond with another human, then the effort you put in will be worth it.

I can appreciate the things Tiny has learned from her parent's relationship. The fact that her parents are of different races, causes the expectation of both parents to be vulnerable to the partner's life experiences and mental processes. He could not deny what she knew and she could not deny what she knew. So, with regard to certain decisions being made, one may be the expert on that subject and the other not so much. Marriage should allow for open communication and acknowledgment of uncertainty. Foer example, if I am an accountant, shouldn't I have the audiences when discussing finances? It doesn't matter what HE says, I am going to do and move based upon my expertise. I am not trying to be his teacher. If he wanted the job, then he should have gotten the education and experience for it? He would have gone to college. Spouse should be chosen based upon what you want to be responsible for in the marriage. There needs to be balance. The fact that Tiny comes from a home with a father who was a musician has given her the insight as a daughter and then wisdom of a mother and wife from her own Mother. I can see the pearls of wisdom that makes marriage make sense for T.I. and Tiny. T.I. definitely married the right woman.
