Oooh this could be helpful. In the summer on a farm we have to cart bales and I always get this old trailer with a dolly. It’s also the same when I drive the tanker for carting water. Some days you can think you’ve got it and then other days to reverse around a corner can take me up to 40 minutes! I’ve also had to back up and reverse around a corner on a road because I met a combine harvester. That took 20 mins to reverse and that was with an empty trailer!
Basically just opposite of regular car-trailer. If you want the dolly(really?) to go right, steer right. And then pay attention to the side and front of the trailer. Make the corner dissapear in your mirrors when the markers on the tail end goes away.
Turn the truck the way you wnt your trailer to go.Dont chase the dolly if its gone too far.Little movements and nice and slow In saying that,i drive a quad tipper for work yet cant back a trailer on Snowrunner for shit 🤣
Yeah, I have been sitting randomly in truck cab for 10+ years and never driven truck 😂 My father drives rigid with dolly trailer so I have been watching backing up quite alot. Then trained it in Ets2 with rigid and dollytrailer.
I drive a quad dog for for work I only started 3-4 months ago and still can’t back straight without trailer lock can’t rap my head around the wheel and direction. But I can jackknife the trailer did it for the first time today in an open paddock or field. Wasn’t tipping though so who know if I would off hit the same spot. Lol any pointers
I am learning this in farming simulator 22 and I noticed that the length of the truck and trailer it’s important too because I tried learning on a tractor and a short dolly trailer and it’s much more difficult
@xchalibur77 in many careers the emphasis is placed on learn as you earn. If the job was to cart stuff all year round then chances are correct teaching would take place on site. But because in my line of work (agriculture), because there are numerous different kinds of work, there isn’t the time to practise (or the money in the business for fuel and stuff) to be wasted on learning the skill. When I was first set off one guy who was showing me said “honestly you’ll be fine. Nothing can go wrong. Unless of course you meet an oncoming vehicle like an articulated lorry - in which case, you’re fucked!” But, even though I did meet an articulated lorry on possibly the narrowest country lane, you deal with the situation in hand at the time.

And yes you are right theories are just that but the coincidence make it that my father had to do it and just like you didn't had the opportunity to learn so he used a trick and he changed the attachment from behind to front so he can do it quickly.
@xchalibur77 Yeah I mean I don’t really mind being thrown in at the deep end. Often it’s more stressful worrying about an outcome rather than dealing with it in present time. But yeah often when using the dolly trailer if in a yard for ease we would drive a forklift truck into it and lift the axle like that. But like I say for using the cart for 10-15 days of the year or so it’s not so much point taking a day or two in learning how to reverse it round a corner in tight situations. I quite like the challenge of it, even if our mirrors on tractors are useless haha
I just ram it, flip it, winch it back, and crane the cargo back on. Only takes a quick two hours or so.
3 years to accumulate information and this is still the best "easy mode" advice

The turn radius of your truck also affects this.
I was just trying to back up that exact same trailer in the exact same spot. LOL

Mud makes it harder and unloaded/ cargo only on the back makes it even harder. Depends on the mud level but its usually doable.
