    Elaine Paige on Broadway as Norma Desmond.
    I think this video is already online somewhere, but not in this good quality.
    Also tagged on the end of this is the famous 'I'm ready for my close-up' line, with the 'With One Look' reprise.
    MAKE THE FILM WITH EP!!
    Many thanks to my EP friend Maria for originally sending me this!!

    After seeing all the videos of With one look with all 4 leading ladies I believe Elaine is the best combination of singing and acting ability. She can sing and she understud the point of the silent film era. Acting with face and body, not with words.

    Best evocation of Swanson’s creation. Paige channels her beautifully in her dialogue. Just enough to add another layer to this bizarre black musical comedy.

    THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS! I received tickets to see this as a Christmas gift. At the time, Glenn Close was still playing lead, but she stopped by the time we were to see it. I was so bummed, but I had no idea who was taking over! From the moment she took the stage, Ms. Paige was... breath taking. I think we can agree... Elaine Paige isn't just some old second rate back up... I've been trying to explain to my husband just how good it was... now I can show him... Wow! Thanks again!

    I saw her in 95 in London, and she was fabulous. My only criticism is that she comes across much older than a 50 year old, and it makes her seem a bit grandmotherly. Also, they had a much shorter supporting cast in London, so she didn’t appear as diminutive as she does here next to Alan Campbell. I’ve seen Glenn Close, Betty Buckley, Karen Mason, and Petula Clark play the role as well. Elaine Paige comes in second to Betty Buckley whose voice was so incredibly thrilling both times that I saw her on Broadway, that no one could compare.

      Susan Dawn Carson is still my favorite from the original production (bway understudy). Petula was a tragic mess. Her accent was horrendous and As If We Never Said Goodbye had all the subtlety of a train derailment. She was the very definition of stunt casting. Glenn Close was mesmerizing, Betty Buckley was the full package, and Elaine Paige had a voice that's power was not matched until Stephanie J Block

      Glenn Close sucked vocally and when I see musicals I want outstanding vocals.

    • @JulianChild
      @JulianChild 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@victordunson719 But for me, Victor, musicals aren't just about the musical voice. Judi Dench's gut-wrenching delivery of "Send in the Clowns," Bea Arthur singing "I'll be Seeing You" at the 1994 MAC Awards, Natasha Richardson as Sally Bowles maniacally singing the title song of "Cabaret" as her world implodes aound her ... these actors don't have "outstanding" or even pretty voices that are necessarily pleasing to the ear, but they had astounding depth in acting abilities that tore through their viewer's hearts and, ESPECIALLY in the Royal Albert Hall tribute to Webber, Close's did that for me.
