I think it's because people who do not listen to the full album only hear the songs which play on public broadcasting like radio. "Treacherous" is definitely one of my personal favourites and I am always torn about how to feel - I want it to be well known like her most famous songs, but at the same time I like having it be a kind of shared "secret" among fans. ("secret" I say, as though millions have not heard it already XD compared to those with billions of listens, millions feels like a secret haha)

I just love LOVE that lyric, I'm literally crying at how poetic and beautiful that line is. Some people will never understand why we keep saying we love her songwriting.

My colleague who is a male PE teacher had this song on speakers throughout the gym when I came in, and I got soo excited because this is one of my favorite songs of all time. I asked him if he liked Taylor Swift, most as a joke, I aspected that he just had put on some random playlist. But he said that he loved Taylor and was so excited to hear the new re-recordings of her. He even showed me videos from her concerts he had been to, TWICE. Im so jealous. I was not expecting my male middle age colleague to love taylor, but I absolutely love it!

This song is the key of D. It's a straight forward chord progression using these chords (D, A, Bm, em, G [not in that order]) and yet - this is probably the most beautiful use of a D chord progression I've ever heard. Taylor is so amazing how she can take the notes in the key of D - without a key change in the entire song -- and make it a masterpiece to the ear. It's probably (musically) my all time favorite Taylor Swift song.
not to mention that she did something really cool with it, in the RED acoustic performances she did this song and rather than going with the standard pattern she went with a capo on 2 and C without the middle finger, a G with only the middle finger and the first finger on the 2nd string on the first fret, and etc with the other chords while plucking the bass note. very long winded explanation from me but it's beautiful lol

In the original Red to be honest never really paid attention to this song, but since the re-recordings came out this version has grown on me so much, it's becoming one of my favorites.

my fav line ever from this song! its saying how things are always struggling to fit into place when you're committed to a relationship. you keep thinking is it gonna work out and there is always that sense of retreat cause one may find their priorities are heavier (as in you're also giving love to your partner instead of just yourself).
after hearing this song, i felt so motivated. it changed my whole life, now i’m a successful person. i got 10 olympic gold medals, 7 oscars, 5 grammys, 9 padma shree awards. next year i’m planning to buy moon

People claim that this song is sweet, in 2012 I thought that too. But whenever I read the lyrics without music now, it feels like a pathetic plea. It reads as if she's begging someone else to let the relationship happen, but I think she's actually begging herself not to let it happen. We can want something, so deeply, but still understand how unhealthy it might be for us. Toxic relationships can be addicting sometimes. It's easy to romanticize, and she did it well in this song.

But ignoring the context behind when Taylor wrote this, if reality did play into the lyrics, I honestly just look at this from a point of view where the guy isn't toxic. In my head, I imagine a story about a girl who believes this "slope is treacherous" not because the guy is a problem, but because she herself doesn't think she's ready to fall in love (and where despite that, it's already happened - "not sure if it's a choice").
