Hello, Barry! I just must say your reviews are great! So full of pure interest, sensitivity, love and passion... Each week I can't wait for another ones! Thank you for teaching me your special approach to the instrument. Best regards from Poland! Michal
I recently managed to get my hands on one of these second hand! Not been able to pick it up yet (I live abroad) and soooo anxious to get my hands on it. I am curious though, this review was 4 years ago... is it still the top scoring uke on Got a Uke!?
It’s amazing to see someone get so excited about an instrument. Seeing the joy in someone’s face while they play is the beauty of music I think- it can make you feel the most joy in the world even on your darkest days, and music can touch people in millions of ways :)
Ive always wanted one been lucky enough to play one.i love my 2 mele sooranos but I think its time for a timms.Fab review mate and im extremely envious.how do you compare it to the kiwaya ?
Well it just got a higher score - but the price has done that - in all other departments it's on a par but I scored it better on fit and finish simply because it was done in a shed, not a factory.
Rather a late comment here, but just now watched your two podcast appearances with Alex of SUS, really enjoyed them, and I was curious to ask if you've ever thought about trying your own hand at creating a ukulele. I realise it's a monster task, having looked into it myself, with all the gear that's needed, etc, but I really enjoyed watching a few tutorial videos, and thought I'd love it if I had the means to do so. I then thought about just trying to assemble one of those pre cut things that need to be assembled, a ukulele rather than a wooden boat or something, or maybe ordering wood pre cut, as based on traditional specs, and gluing it together myself, or just trying to make something out of an old oil tin can, something like that. I saw someone online 3D print one. Have you ever fancied giving it a whirl, at least in some way? I'd love to myself, even if it's a disaster.
Hi, Barry! You’ve played this Timms as well as a Wunderkammer Ike. Which one do you think is the best and why? I don’t want to start a war between these two little beautys, which a consider to be in the podium of all sopranos out there, but just curious. If you’d have to define that podium: which three soprano ukuleles would you list or put on there? Thanks!!
Leonel Gutierrez they are extremely close and the Wunderkammer probably wins on character and traditional aspects. But the Timms went on to get the highest score I ever handed out which probably answers your question
Listening to your excellent review years ago, this was on my wish list. Finally last week I managed to buy a used one. It is a stunning instrument. The price has risen since then. But even at the price point today it is very much worth it.
Stunning...... it just set the standard for a soprano ukulele sound. No annoying mid-range frequencies, pure and a well balanced tone. Good review. Need to have one of that in my collections.
Loved the review. As a new-ish player can I ask what the chords were that you played between 5:20 and 5:50? I would like to be able to recreate that sound.
This is exactly what I was talking about on your recent Sigma review. The quality of UK luthier instruments right now is tremendous and most of them are knocking it out of the park when it comes to price. This kind of product gets my vote every time. Great review as always. Thanks.
I love how subtly (is that even a word) excited and ecstatic you are, it reminds me of my grandfather, like a boiling pot, slowly bubbling up. Keep up the great work, you are my greatest ukulele inspiration.
That really is a superb ukulele at even twice the price. But I have to agree with you that $329.00 is an absolute steal. You said you really love monogamy sopranos. Do you prefer them over koa sopranos? Thanks 🙏 In advance. Also, great review as always.
Just bought one today from Ken that came up on eBay. No bids had been placed and the BIN price was still there, so after trying for years to buy one, I pressed Buy it Now without thought. Can’t wait for it to arrive.

Near impossible? Since I bought this I mentioned Ken to some friends and two of them bought them. Sure he is not stocking them like a mainstream shop - just subscribe to his ebay page!

I’m SO happy. Thank you for sharing you experience and knowledge about Ken Timms and his hand made Soprano. Look forward to seeing your next video!
Congrats on the acquisition! I have a 50's Martin S0 and would love to have a Timms. Unfortunately I'm in the US. When you said the price I said "What???!!" out loud. Amazing! God bless Ken for what he does. If I can't get a Timms I think I'll settle for a Kiwaya KTS-4 some day. Thanks again for your videos. Keep on strummin'!
I wholeheartedly agree with your review of the Ken Timms masterpieces. To me it's a classic heirloom instrument and, truth be told, I now own three of them in the hope my two children will play when they are older and I can gift them one each of the finest sopranos ever made. I bought the first two for a good price when he was more unknown. The third was a little more, but still cheaper than a vintage Martin. If I was forced to give a criticism of these instruments it would only be that they are perhaps not the best choice for a quiet strum when everyone else is in bed because they are so loud and punchy. It does come as a welcome surprise from such a little unassuming instrument.

I believe he DOES ship to USA. But he doesn’t build to order and all go on ebay auctions. His frequency varies and he takes a break over winter, but as he builds up (ie. now!) he seems to be putting them out once every two weeks. Best keeping subscribed to his ebay is the way.
@@GotAUkulele Here recently when he lists them for auction he will leave a BIN option until the first person places a bid. That BIN price is $760. They are obviously great instruments, and he can charge whatever he sees fit, but at that price you start getting into vintage Martin territory. Don't get me wrong I still really want to get a hold of one even if I have to pay the higher price. Got excited about this ukulele just by listening to you on this video! Such enthusiasm. Out of curiosity, I checked out Mr Timm's ebay page. His Hand built soprano is up for auction and is now at 590 pounds with another day or so to go! I wonder who's going to be the lucky one. The ukulele looks gorgeous.
Wow, they are fetching close to 600 pounds now! what was an amazing bargain is no longer. Worth it I would say but lucky for the few who got them early on.
Wow, Baz, I've never seen you so excited about a Uke! I don't care for soprano Ukes at all, but this review turned my head. Now I think I actually want one of these. So, does this mean that you'll be playing it so much that you won't do any more reviews?
Based on this review I bought one of these works of art and i just can't speak highly enough of it. It is a joy to look at, to hold and to play, just unbelievable.Barry says he'd gladly pay twice the price for one and you have to now, recent ones have sold over £550 and still worth it.
Great review, and I completely sympathise with you here Baz - I feel exactly the same about my KT style ‘0’. It’s funny really - I was really strapped for cash when I bought it, so it felt like a risk buying thru eBay. I’d tried a vintage Martin, but I think it must’ve been a ‘Tuesday afternoon’ one, ‘cos the intonation was less than perfect. I then tried a new Martin, and just found it horrible/poor quality - truly, like firewood! ;). My KT is phenomenal tho’ - just like everyone seemed to be saying in reviews. I have a truly Pro instrument, which plays and records amazingly well. It’s a thing of understated/classic beauty too (as you say) - ‘an I nicked mine for £280 too! (a slow week for Ken on eBay). He wasn’t exactly over the moon, but hell - I am, after all, a starving musician... 🤪 Take care matey, and great review again, BK
Thanks. I’ve seen some people recently suggest that Kens are too expensive, but I beg to differ. He puts them up as a mix of Buy it nows (at 325) and some on auction. Some auctions go high, some low like yours. It’s a pretty fair system I think, and even at his higher prices, I think they are easily worth the money. This didn’t get the highest score yet on Got A Ukulele for no good reason!
Ha! That’s absol. crazy isn’t it Baz? - There are lots of people out there who are either crippled by a ‘bit of knowledge’ or else have no money when the chips are down. I paid £280 on eBay for mine (so I really nicked it right?) but, funds permitting, I’d’ve happily paid double for it without a second thought. It’s phenomenal, and you’re right to be emotional about your one... 💗 The new Martins are awful - really poor quality timber, and just don’t play very well (in my view), plus we have to remember that the vintage style ‘0s’ were made for the Everyman - apparently extremely cheap to buy back in the day, and so there’s bound to be lots floating about now that, despite sounding great, aren’t exactly spot-on with the old action/intonation. If we weigh all that up, then Ken’s are likely to be *better* than yer average Martin style ‘0’ That’s what I reckon anyway... Take care ombré Bobby. 🌸 ( o)==:: 🌺
That ecstatic feeling you"re exhibiting is why we afflicted with UAS so willingly surrender to our disorder. Congratulations on your new found treasure!

The new Martins are awful - really poor quality timber, and just don’t play very well (in my view), plus we have to remember that the vintage style ‘0s’ were made for the Everyman - apparently extremely cheap to buy back in the day, and so there’s bound to be lots floating about now that, despite sounding great, aren’t exactly spot-on with the old action/intonation.
If we weigh all that up, then Ken’s are likely to be *better* than yer average Martin style ‘0’
That’s what I reckon anyway... Take care ombré

The next time you come across a builder who is selling great sopranos at a decent price Please Don't exclaim on YT that he should raise his prices.
heh heh..
God Bless the talented luthiers! What an instrument!
Hi mate , your reviews are quality what’s ken times username on eBay thanks from jay
I think your review of the Timms’ soprano is responsible for the price increase over the last 5 years!
i think he was selling them far too cheap.
@@GotAUkulele At that price, in hindsight, I should have picked up a couple of them!
@@jerrydavison_ Ultimately though - they sell as auctions, not fixed prices - so the market is determining what they are worth
@@GotAUkulele You got an absolute steal! Thanks for the awesome review. And I was wondering about those “old-timey” chords you were playing. I went to your channel and found your video. Cheers!
