@@matttheknife8293 This is something windlass is actually changing. I own allot of windlass knives and swords, from my understanding it is actually illegal in India to sell sharp swords / fighting type knives. So the blades are shipped to US retailers like Atlanta cutlery (windlass distributer in the US) or other retailers like Kult of Athena etc. Those store fronts then offered sharpening services for an additional cost usually around $15. However very recently it seems Windlass has received export licensing to manufacture and ship sharp weapons. That means single bevel ground sword blades from the factory as well (which is a big deal)
Look Edged it's $150, an authenic rusted used and abused version would be 2-3K, or a cheap Chinese one 25-30. Just sharpen it and be glad it's made in India and not Chiina. India make the best Kukuri knives and British Commando knives also.Shalom.
I believe they have to ship a lot of double edged knives with essentially no edge, when they are being sent internationally. Makes it easier through customs. That being said, the advertising on the site should plainly state this, so you don’t end up expecting something else
That knife would be great to use for a WW1 WW2 GI reenactment kit. Besides that, to me it will always standout as the preferred backup weapon of "The Sargeant" through two world wars in the 1980's flick, "The Big Red One".. I'd pick one up, just for S's & G's...
The M1918 Mark I trench knife was designed by Major Eugene Mcnary because WWI had turned into a trench war. Many times troops were fighting hand to hand inside a trench, it was created out of necessity. It wasn't as important to be sharp as it was to have a point, knuckle duster and a pointy butt end. It was made for stabbing and bludgeoning the enemy. 1 million were ordered but only 119 thousand were made because the end of WWI came 5 months after manufacturing began and not many actually made out to the troops in the field. Most of them were oiled and stored in crates and would be issued to troops 25yrs later for WWII but the design was outdated and wasn't versatile, it was strictly made for one thing, killing. Thus came the M3 knife because it could be used as a tool as well stabbing so the M1918 trench knife was relegated to the history bin.
The replicas, not sure what steel they use, are like 20 to 40 bucks. What steel is this? What ateel was used when they made it back in the day? How much was this?
@@jaymac2702 this company is the one that makes the best. I did some research. I own an original 1917 trench knife and an original 1918, and this isnt a bad reproduction, there is a guy who makes cast repos out of ohio. and theyre perfect except that the guy changes the logos to make sure they can't be mistaked as a real one but these repos are around $500
I have a pair of trench knives with the brass knuckles. I went to go and sell them at a pawn shop years ago and the guy working said that he didnt think he would be able to buy it legally. I asked him why and he told me that he would most likely have to sell them as a novelty item. I laughed and asked him why? He said man could you imagine someone hitting you with this??? Today my wife calls me and says that someone brought the same trench knife into Pawn Stars and the guy said that the one was worth $175. The reason it was low, someone tried to clean it with something that hurt the brass finish. So now years later I guess I'm fixing to be selling them. All that I knew about them, my grandfather had them. My mom wasnt sure how he got them and only 1 has a broken tip on the blade. Other then that, they look brand new and as long as I keep them away from my youngest son that's 16, they will stay in great shape.
I got one of the Bud K reproduction WWI trench knives. It makes a nice display piece. Not really practical. Super dull, sheath is kind of awkward and loose, and the knuckles on the handle will definitely cause legal issues in many jurisdictions.
Another reason they’re dull, stabs from a dull knife are much harder for a doc to fix up. Plus, the most dangerous knife is a dull knife, but that’s usually on the end of the user lol.
Tarnish but very very rarely ever rust , it's good stuff so is aluminum and copper. brass is just heavier and have copper in it , because it man by man unlike copper.

It's coming from India or Pakistan. The knives are fake and poorly made. I have some and they rusted so bad it was ridiculous. Also some will contain led in them. So be careful with that, and I've never received a dull knife. Again it's probably because of poor quality.
Well, they aren't made for cutting, they're made for puncturing thick wool coats
They were actually made because the model 1917 wouldnt cut “wasn’t a good utility tool” where this was an actual bladed knife that could in fact cut
Three years later, mine came sharp right out of the box. Also bought it from Atlanta Cutlery. And yeah it was swimming in oil.
cosmiline..... That's what's on the knife. The package was an attempt to replicate the original milspec paper it would of been packaged in

So even the shipping of the product is replica accurate haha

They sell their historical knife dull almost all the time and if you pay extra they will offer sharpening on a few items. ⚖️

Oxidizes. Which is the same process as rust, just different kind of oxidization (darkens then turns green)
