Rod was a fine, fine man, a true gentleman, great guitar player and fantastic yodeler too. He owned and ran the old Fireside Lodge. Although the lodge wasn't regularly open, he'd fire it up for special occasions and holidays. He'd gather many of his close musician friends and put on one fun, small town show. We saw many a great county musical act there, some of our finest memories. After Rod died he donated the land that the lodge stood on and they built a nice little park for the locals, especially the local kids who needed a swimming/fishing/picnicing spot. Rest in peace Rod, you certainly were a class act.
Rod's son Jon talked me into backing them up one New Years Eve on drums at the Fireside. Jon was playing piano. At one point while Rod was playing this tune, Jon turned around and yelled "breathe"! Apparently I was listening intently to Rod's yodeling and held my breath.
the very best. we were very fortunate to have Rod Erickson in our home in Fort st. John BC back in 1970s. i just love his yodeling, worlds best yodeler.
I loved Rod, (rip) went to school with his boys Chris and Jon (rip) and years later got to sing with him at his fireside Lodge at Spirit lake Idaho, a kind Christian with a wonderful demeanor!
I first heard this i the mid or late 80s on the Dr Demento show, and I couldnt remember his name. Ive heard so many versions of this in my searches, but this is hands down the best Ive heard. Or maybe Im just biased because of my childhood, but it felt so good to hear again after all these years.
There was a time when my father would practically tie up anyone who walked into our house so that he would play this song for them. He always told them he was Rod's uncle, although the reality was that my mother was the aunt of Rod's wife Nancy.
What a great yodelist! One of the most talented yodelers I have heard in 67 years!

I attended and performed at one of his occasions, a Memorial day open mic and jam. Fantastic.

Wonderful - I went to elementary school with Rod! He didn't yodel then but sure does now
This guy knocked my socks off! He's right up there with my favorites, Kenny Roberts, Wlton Britt, Rex Allen, Sr and Roy Rogers. WOW!

Not a national hit, but it was a local hit in Seattle.
Beautiful - but too fast. Take control.
Maybe a little too fast.
