      First I read/understood your comment wrong and was like "I dont understand, what is wrong with the capacitor and the motor"
      And then I read again and saw again the video to realize he did what he did with the glue hahah
      Altough i wouldnt say its because he is a "third World dumbass" as some try to say here. Im just a newbie for example, and altough I know both heat up, I might do the same mistake because of not thinking and just thinking on the circuit (like i was doing watching the video, I didnt think about the cooling, just wanted to see the circuit)
      Just a newbie mistake or not thinking straight, sometimes you just do something dumb because the process is easy and you underthink the solution

      Mosfet analogue Audio power amplifiers would like to disagree about them being only digital. Linear operation is a thing.

    • @TheMoeP
      @TheMoeP ปีที่แล้ว +37

      @Raymond Casso mmm PID is mostly to adjust physical parameters like temperature or pressure. For a small applications like this you can still use the MOSFET but you would use PWM to change its duty cycle and have a more accurate control without passing high current through it

    • @simonkondrk7569
      @simonkondrk7569 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      @@TheMoeP PWM mode is where you pass higher current intermittently and linear regulation is when you pass lower current constantly to achieve same effective power.
      PID is just way of including a feedback loop, which has nothing to do with the use of mosfets. PWM control could also be less accurate compared to this as for example Arduino has 8-bit default PWM resolution while this potentiometer is purely analogue. Maybe what you ment is "PWM would be more linear".
      All in all, the mosfet here acts as a variable resistor that is made to dissipate more power compared to what power you could dissipate over the potentiometer.

    • @TheMoeP
      @TheMoeP ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @Šimon Kondrk linear amplification is less efficient and with more power dissipation as heat, you would need a good heatsink, while it can be more accurate for certain applications it's not the best option for low power applications. PWM has higher efficiency but with the problem of EMI and some vibrations. Overall it depends on your application, for small stuff like this (in my opinion) PWM would give you better driving

    A potentiometer, often shortened to "pot," is a variable resistor with three terminals. It allows you to adjust the resistance between two of the terminals by rotating a shaft or sliding a wiper along a resistive track.
    Here's a breakdown of how it works and its common applications:
    How it Works:
    1. Resistive Track: The core of a potentiometer is a long strip of resistive material (like carbon or cermet). This material has a consistent resistance throughout.
    2. Wiper: A movable contact called a wiper slides along the resistive track.
    3. Terminals: The potentiometer has three terminals:
    - Terminal 1: Connected to one end of the resistive track.
    - Terminal 2: Connected to the wiper.
    - Terminal 3: Connected to the opposite end of the resistive track.
    Adjusting Resistance:
    - When the wiper is at one end of the resistive track, all the resistance is between terminals 1 and 2.
    - When the wiper is at the other end, all the resistance is between terminals 2 and 3.
    - As the wiper moves, the resistance between terminals 1 and 2 decreases, while the resistance between terminals 2 and 3 increases, and vice versa.
    Types of Potentiometers:
    - Rotary Potentiometers: Have a circular track and are adjusted by rotating a shaft. These are common in audio equipment, volume controls, and other applications where a smooth, continuous adjustment is needed.
    - Slide Potentiometers: Have a linear track and are adjusted by sliding a wiper along the track. These are often used in dimmer switches, voltage dividers, and other applications where a linear adjustment is desired.
    - Trim Pots: Small, adjustable potentiometers used for fine-tuning circuits. They're often sealed with a screw to prevent accidental adjustment.
    Applications:
    - Volume Control: In audio systems, potentiometers are used to control the volume of sound by adjusting the resistance in a signal path.
    - Dimmer Switches: In lighting systems, potentiometers can control the brightness of lights by adjusting the resistance in the circuit.
    - Voltage Dividers: Potentiometers can be used to create voltage dividers, where a portion of a larger voltage is reduced to a lower voltage.
    - Position Sensors: Some potentiometers are designed to measure the position of a mechanical object, like the position of a control lever.
    - Signal Generators: Potentiometers can be used in circuits that generate variable signals, like audio oscillators.
    Key Points:
    - Potentiometers are passive components, meaning they don't amplify or generate signals; they simply control the flow of current.
    - The resistance of a potentiometer is usually measured in ohms (Ω).
    - The resolution of a potentiometer refers to the smallest change in resistance that can be achieved by adjusting the wiper. Higher resolution pots offer finer control.
    I hope this explanation of potentiometers is helpful! Let me know if you have any other questions.

    What was the need for the mosfet in this system? Will a potentiometer always output a voltage unless gated by the mos?

    The question is how you soldered so smoothly? I am struggling in this. Any tips?

    • @jhoughjr1
      @jhoughjr1 ปีที่แล้ว

      lots of practice. use leaded rosin core solder. use a very hot ~ 700 - 720 F iron.
      Once you know how your iron moves heat through a joint, ou will develop a feel and be able to use a minimum amount of solder.
      Once the whole joint is hot, the solder will flow, and if you are fast, coat thinly and evenly.
      Keep you iron tip clean and well tinned. Use a damp sponge to clean oxide off as you work.
      Having magnification to really see what the solder is doing is very helpful too.

    You know the MOSFET and the motor will heat each other up don't you?
    The MOSFET needs a heat sink and the motor is in no way a good heat sink
    The life of the motor and the MOSFET will be very short if you use this setup...
    Knowledge needs wisdom lol

    Someone could explain how the circuit works?, not really sure why the mosfet was needed nor the capacitor

    • @CharlieRAnimaMX
      @CharlieRAnimaMX ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Trust me, Just forget what you saw here. If I explain to you why he puts them and what's function for each one, you will understand that this is what should never be done.
      The only thing you need to know is that this "fake" circuit is so poorly made that it doesn't regulate speed finely (See that it accelerates from little to 100 with almost no movement) and the MOSFET is bound to die from overheating and reverse voltage.
