Nice piece of history , I can also give you a bit more about the two network rail dmu’s. I remember them at Severn tunnel junction before they ended up at Cardiff Canton purely for spares for ATW’s bubble car 121032. Which ran on the Cardiff bay line for several years until Arriva deemed it no longer viable to run the bubble car mostly because of maintenance issues it was then transferred to Chiltern rail . But while they were at canton for spare parts I removed one of the engines from one of the network rail cars , not sure which vehicle but I guess its the one they have no plans to restore and that said engine I put underneath 121032 . That’s my claim to fame hope you enjoy..
Love the new format Richard. Whilst History is so important the way they look now is soul destroying and you handled that very well I thought. Well Done Greetings from St Lucia by the way Best David
Hi Richard enjoyed the video and the history of these locos. Hattans also sell a model of W55024 in maroon which ended its main line service as a sandite unit until being sold to Chinnor and Princes Risborough railway. I was lucky enough to work on that unit for 3yrs converting it back to passenger service. I’m happy to say it is now back in traffic. Needless to say I purchased a model of W55024 to remind me of happy days working on the actual loco. Had an issue with the drivers cab steps catching on the bogie and derailing on curves going in the direction of No1 end. This was quickly sorted out by filing a little of the steps which is hardly noticeable.
Hi Richard, Nice look back in time of the Class 121 Cars...! Dapol have made a cracking job of this once popular mode of transport. Dapol’s Arriva is a brilliant model. 👍Thumbs Up 👍
Great video Richard. Love the different take on closer inspection, like how you went to the preserved railway to look at the engine as well. Surprised you got to ecclesbourne valley railway with the amount of flooding around there at the minute. Hope this format is here for the long term and can't wait for the next video Regards, James
Excellent locos, I had one in BR Blue and Grey, superb runner. I loved the history you did on them and also loved seeing those real pictures and videos of them.
Nice video and enjoyed the introductory talk. I have a Class 122. Supplied with sound, stay alive, interior lighting, driver at both ends and passengers. Had stay alive because I have seen a video or two which mention hesitation over the s and c work. You can see it on my channel - Browndale Heritage Railway if you like. Supplied by Oliviers Trains Sheffield. Cheers John.
I like the new format with the background history and hope that will be the format you use going forward. I bought the NSE and the BR Blue/Grey versions and love them as they have so much detail and they run very well too. With the Hattons discount they are very good value. Cheers Kev
Excellent film. Thank you. I purchased one of these - BR blue yellow ends - earlier in the year. Very good slow running. Took 4 minutes to travel around my layout - which is smaller than yours.
Interesting to see these in different liveries, rather than the usual BR green and blue. Worth remebering, in BR days, these weren't only found on the Western Region, they were fairly common in Scotland too and turned-up in some odd places, in odd formations. I've even seen one, in service, sandwiched between two driving cars. This made for a powerful set but, of course, no access between coaches.
Great video Richard, I do like the new format, great bit of history to go with the locomotives, definitely help people make the right choice on picking the correct version for there layouts,
Good piece of history, i can add to that . I remember them at seven tunnel junction before they were taken to Cardiff canton for spares for 121032 my claim to fame is that I removed one of the engines from one of the network rail dmu’s for atw’s 121 not sure what number probably the one they have no plans to restore .121032 was then some time later cascaded to Chiltern when it became unviable for arriva trains wales to operate . Hope you find this useful .
I really like the way you have put this video together and with all the history of Class 121. I didn't know that they were made that a long time ago. I hope you will do more of these videos, of course, there is the cost going to visit where ever Train of Locomotive is. I do have two class 101's? The Diesel Rail Car. One is from the early 60,s with a centre coach and a more modern one with head code lighting. I saw a video yesterday using the same technic at the start and finish of the video. I think it sort of spoils it, but that is just my opinion. Martin (Dhaka, Bangladesh)
Definitely agree about the comment below re Lais decoders. Better than Gaugemaster and others. I have them in Hornby,Bachmann , Heljan and Dapol locos no problem. Good review linking real and model.
Hi richard Excellent video as always and I must say I have got to get one of these for my depot layout as it would fit perfect in the small station. Keep them coming mate. Hope to see you at warley. Peter from birmingham
Great video these models are great and when you have applied the extra detail they look amazing I have the blue and grey one and it is one of my best models
The cab details were sharp. I'm not used to that outside of steam locos. The trains themselves were well detailed with nice coloring. Not sexy as far as trains, but look sharp on the right layout
Fantastic review Richard, i really enjoyed that! Will there be meetup at Warley? I hope to see the Network rail livery on these in the future! Thanks, Iwan.
Ahh but your forgetting the extensive live of 55032 (which features in ATW livery) it has a very good history with it running the Ffestiniog services (at start of life). It then went on to to 1/4 hourly services Cardiff Central - Bay finishing 2001. Then sitting in Cardiff Canton till 2008 until then being transferred to Wensleydale and as stayed there sonce
Hi, they do look really good but do they have the same issue as the Dapol 68 with a droopey nem socket. Making it very difficult to use KD couplings. JC
Nobody pick up the fact that all 3 models have the wrong window configuration in the brake van? The models bodyshell is based on a standard version. All three of these are ex sandite vehicles which had the windows changed about.
Good to see a group of them being reviewed but you missed significant flaws..... the bogies catch on the detail while other modelers have reported parts missing and slow but stable speeds. Given that a lot of modelers will look at these and want to combine them in some operations pairing them might of been a good idea.
Enjoyed the in-depth history and seeing actual vehicles in their current condition. Would have liked more of your personal thoughts on the model’s performance and the model’s potential for improvement. Another great ‘under closer inspection’ though. Thanks.
What is going to happen to all these preserved railways up and down the country when the UK has to become carbon neutral? Has ever anybody thought about that?

I'm loving this format of presentation. It is great to get a background on where the stock was used and it's history.
Cheers Gary, hopfully it will get better with practice
Love the new format Richard. Whilst History is so important the way they look now is soul destroying and you handled that very well I thought.
Well Done
Greetings from St Lucia by the way

Thanks David, maby one day they'll be saved

Thanks James, we were lucky getting there
I like the painted detail in the cab. A superb model.
Thanks Geoff
I like the new format and that it is more concise. Great effort Richard - might have to pick one of these up myself 👌
Great history on the class 121. The livery's i'm a fan of. Will have to get one of these models in the near future. Dapol have done a great job. Clint
Great history and preview. Thanks again Richard
I loved the history you provided about the bubblecars, the feature was spot on! the review of the models was great as well.
Thanks!
Excellent locos, I had one in BR Blue and Grey, superb runner. I loved the history you did on them and also loved seeing those real pictures and videos of them.
Thanks Alex
Lovely presentation Richard. Outstanding detail to these and a very fair price too. Do like this new format. Cheers Iain
Thanks Iain

Fantastic video Richard I have got a Class 121 mine is in the Arriva Trains Wales Livery and it runs well
Nice Jack!

Hi richard
Excellent video as always and I must say I have got to get one of these for my depot layout as it would fit perfect in the small station.

I have the blue and grey one and it is one of my best models
Great stuff
Very good review like the new format cheers
Thanks
Nice one Richard...out of the 3...because I live in South Wales... I'll go for the Arriva one, although the three of them looked smart.
I think you've just raised the bar on how to review a product. 👍👍👍
Thanks Gary, hopfully getting better
Richard, I liked the history. The decoder looks easy to fit. The price is competitive.
Thanks Nigel!
Good to see Dapol interior down to its usual low standard.
The cab details were sharp. I'm not used to that outside of steam locos. The trains themselves were well detailed with nice coloring. Not sexy as far as trains, but look sharp on the right layout
Not good looking but workhorses non the less! 😁
Hi mate nice review on the dapol 121 I might treat myself to one for Christmas
Just the one hehe
Hi Richard another great video mate love 121 dmus must get one some clive
Thanks Clive
I've got the Railtrack one , it's a lovely model ! :-) cheers for the vid Richard 👍
Your welcome as always Matt
Back on form Richard loved it. Will at least one of them be a feature on the heritage line or are they on their way back to Hattons?
I'm tempted by Bletchly TMD as that's one of the ones I saw
Fantastic review Richard, i really enjoyed that! Will there be meetup at Warley? I hope to see the Network rail livery on these in the future! Thanks, Iwan.
Thanks Iwan!
Like the new look.. incidentally, the Pressed Steel plant sat behind what was later to become the Chrysler Linwood plant.
Been to the EVR, I actually live 20 minutes away from it, they got good trains there
Loved the edition of history. Ive been to ecclebourne and went around the shed but never noticed any 121s to be seen, when was that visit?
Last weekend, there tucked out the way
Good job Richard.
Thanks!
Can a Loksound V5 operate the passenger compartment lights? My V4 won’t, I have to turn them on and off using the little physical switch.
Loksound v5 should fit
Nice out on site and background detail, not something for my modelling era but great inspection.
Thanks!

Great models Richard Cheers Greg
Thanks Greg!
Very good detail on them I think of getting the silver link one also what happened to your other hsts and 800?
Hi, they do look really good but do they have the same issue as the Dapol 68 with a droopey nem socket. Making it very difficult to use KD couplings. JC
Droopy because they're sad lol
Nobody pick up the fact that all 3 models have the wrong window configuration in the brake van? The models bodyshell is based on a standard version. All three of these are ex sandite vehicles which had the windows changed about.
Good spot Roger!

Given that a lot of modelers will look at these and want to combine them in some operations pairing them might of been a good idea.
Looks nice, out of my era though.
Will you be at Warley?
Yes, Hornby mag stand at 11am either day
Are any of these fine models working on your layout at all ?
Helen Australia 🇦🇺
Thankyou...
Quite impressive..🌟
Thanks Helen

121032 is at wensleydale which Is running
Nice!
Great video , great model , Now where’s that spare cash?
Search down the sofa
These are cracking Models . the Arriva trains versions looks tasty
Oh yes!
Where are the Europhenix class 91s i saw on Instagram??
In my pilot sidings, don't you worry they'll be on camera very soon! 😁
Great. I have a soft spot for DMUs, as opposed to "proper" passenger trains. However, opening shot - bent exhaust pipe! ;-0
Ha yes
Good review not sure about the music during the review it's what you would expect from a manufacturer.
Hmm always a tough one
It's a brilliant model and for that price is amazing
Cheers Gareth
What’s the music in this video, just has a nice beat lol😂
In a million days - Rijko
Thanks for the reply and great video as always btw......
@@belfastbusfan my pleasure
What is going to happen to all these preserved railways up and down the country when the UK has to become carbon neutral? Has ever anybody thought about that?
Oh yes, they should be exempt.
Not my cup of tea
But love the history
Sorry it not much
Keep safe arp
Cheers Adi
Bubble cars are good because you don't need much room to use them. The modern bubblecar (class 153) is horrible and I hate working the things
Thanks!
Old new junction 😟
