    I think the original wax shavings could be really fun, especially if you coated them in something like mica powder, I think they might leave behind little trails as they melted.

    I used to do wax hands for events. Your issue was you weren't letting the wax cool and set properly, and then you were also not getting it dry enough when redipping it in wax. The knobby texture is from moisture, and the mushiness of the wax is from both that and not leaving it in cold water long enough.

    • @sarahkwast1250
      @sarahkwast1250 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I thought that was the issue. I am glad someone with actual experience said it as well.

    Your videos are helping my brother with anxiety and panic attacks. Our family nights have been a bit affected recently as he's been suffering from phantom symptoms that are just manifestations of his anxiety, which then puts him into panic. However while we are playing boardgames, I started putting your videos on in the background on the TV - not only is the family enjoying your creations, the chilled vibe has massively helped my brother to the point that as soon as we arrive, he asks if I can "put the resin guy on". So thanks! Lamps seem to be the favourite items amongst my family 😃.

    I watched the melting process twice because it was so interesting. Would have love a closer view of the final product. I really wanted to see if the wax left empty space behind and I was hoping there would be a shape of your finger left in the resin. Such a cool experiment!

  • @nightdragon9375
    @nightdragon9375 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    If you ever think of revisiting this experiment, I would suggest making a mold of your finger similar to what you did with the Oreo. And crayons would work wonders since they are already colored.
    No matter what, thinks as always for such a wonderful and interesting video. You never fail to entertain.

    Hi Ben. If you like to expand on wax and resin projects, I'll share an idea. Those dye chips that melt on clear wax might result in even more interesting outcomes if you can manage to first make a hollow resin egg, cut it in half, then carefully add the wax shavings and a few colored ones in. Once you have both halves of the egg filled with your wax pattern, seal everything together and then secure the egg in a container before finally pouring the resin for turning. I think the heat should still penetrate and mix the wax into something pretty!
    Btw, keep up the good work, your art and presentations are so cathartic!
    Thanks 😊👍

    When you mentioned making wax finger I was thinking silicone mold of finger then fill the mold with wax to produce finger made of wax. I’d be curious how wax would act if it was completely covered with uv resin then had resting poured around it. If it melted it would be hard to tell as it would fill the void, but if the wax was hollowed out and sealed before being covered in uv resin it would be easier to tell it melted. Great video I enjoyed watching the wax melt.

    Put 1 cup of rice in a resealable plastic bag.
    Add 1/2 tsp. of vinegar/ water and a bit of the icing gel or food colouring. ...
    Seal the bag and shake well.
    Spread the coloured rice out on a baking tray to dry overnight.
    Repeat with other colours.
    Would love to see in resin

    I’ve been wondering what would happen when hot resin meets silica (you know, the stuffing in those little packets, that one shouldn’t eat, that can be found in a new box of shoes (or such) to keep moisture from accumulating)? I mean, the resin heating up creates steam, yet the silica negate moisture. So what would happen?

    A silicon cast of your finger then filled with resin to make a finger positive would be cool. You could then paint the finger with melted wax to build up a uniform and thick layer. Mount the finger on a base and fill with resin. We could then see your finger pointing to the void left when the wax melts. I am picturing Michelangelo's Creation of Adam style finger pointing. The evolution of the fingers holding an Oreo.

    I wonder what mixing in the wax flakes right at the point of setting would do. Like add them in right as its about to solidify. It would also be cool to try and remelt the wax out and puta a new resin color in. That way you get actual layered colors instead of swirled mixed colors. Very interesting idea all around mate! Great vid as always!

    The potcam definitely showed the lava lamp effect but seeing the final product, this might work for a lava lamp itself. I'd suggest melting down crayons (as someone else suggested since they are already colored), form them into spheres in an ice cube tray or something, and then putting them in the resin. Maybe if you get a big container and enough of them, you could make yourself an actual lava lamp with what is leftover inside the resin as hopefully the wax would stay separated enough to keep the colors.

    You can make it more flexible and elastic if you add Elmers glue to the wax when it’s melting. That or you can buy brewers wax which typically has an elastic property built in, specifically for adding wax to the tops of bottles. If the wax isn’t elastic it will chip away easily and it with be difficult to open without getting wax in the beer itself.
    Love your videos by the way!

    Another great experiment. I have a suggestion for you, what happens when you put resin in a cup then let it cure while spinning on the lathe? Would I coat it evenly and smoothly? What happens when you change the speed of the lathe to something real slow? Will it be gloopy? Then if it creates a layer you can add other colors and it would be like a gobstopper that changes color as you turn it.

    Interesting. I was expecting a casting of your finger and then pouring wax into the casting, not dipping your finger into the wax to make a finger-sleeve. That finger-sleeve was thin, so it is obvious it would melt, although faster than I thought it would. Now, I am curious about a "small" ball of wax, a wax replica finger, and the traditional candle with an LED light for the wick.
