I got mine free a few years ago from a customer who wanted me to recycle it. I recently dusted it off and started thinking it would make a good gaming PC. I upgraded the PS to a 800W Corsair. I ordered a X5675 for $36 CAD and a Sapphire Nitro+ RX580 4GB GPU for $125 CAD. I strapped a 120GB SSD for boot drive onto the top drive area (after removing the metal to make room for GPU) and have a 1TB SATA for data on the bottom. 4GBx3 total 12GB RAM. I also removed the blue plastic PCI holder and flipped the screws around so all the cards get screwed in more secure and makes it cleaner without the big blue plastic thing - this is necessary for the RX580 because it sticks up higher than the metal mount bracket.
I bought my Dell T3500 for 85$ & my specs are: R9 290 Sapphire 4GB 512Bits Tri-X OC Xeon E5630 12GB Ram 1TB HDD PSU 525W Stock And runs every AAA game on Very High @ 60FPS

I recently bought one on ebay with 4 gbs of DDR3 ram, it's nice from going from a maxed out Inspiron 530 though the graphics card is weak the cpu was the bottleneck and having only being able to upgrade to 8 gbs of ddr2 is showing that it's already too old to game newer titles I'm planning on getting a 500 gb ssd with 16 gbs of ram and a better xeon CPU and a GTX 1050ti I definitely have to upgrade my psu since I was going to use the one from my old rig but it's only 350w and I was going to give the old one to my little brother despite I could get a decent amount of money to help me pay for upgrades to my new rig I think he'd love it since he mostly likes older games like me lmao he's 14 and just an awesome kid to game with
Ah-HA! I didn't realize you could unscrew and remove just a small *portion* of that outer HDD panel/bracket/tray -- just enough to fit a full-length video card! Thanks for that tip!
Thank you for this and that link. I love my T3500 budget gaming pc. I just bought and installed another motherboard yesterday (other one died 2 weeks ago after 3 years of heavy use) and got a 6 core processor for it, so that was a nice upgrade from a 4 core. I was looking for upgrades for my GTX950 and was searching for PSU's that would fit this beast. So thank you much for this info :)
So my story is simple, bought the t3500 for 50€ on saturday market from some gypsies that hustle merchandise from Austria, Sweden etc. Checked the processor it came with w3680, 4 gigs of ram so I thought at worst I’ll part it out to recoup the cost. Few hours later, the thing boots happily and everything works like a charm. Best thing I bought in last few years
Appreciate the info in your vids about the T3500. Using some of your info I've upgraded mine to a X5680 proc w/ the upgraded heatsink, 36GB of memory, GTX 1660 Super OC, a 500GB SSD and 4TB HDD. I now use it as my main desktop PC for work, gaming, and streaming on Twitch!
I actually just got 2 complete t3500 from my work , they upgraded and these were working and just being thrown away... I was going to use the. Case, but found out these have the top spec hardware and am making one like you did
I got a T3500 and a T5500 for a 100 bucks each with shipping from a used computer shop. Plan to rig them both up similar to what you did. Will be installing 1070Ti’s in both! Should be awesome!
Great channel! I just got my T3500 last week. $30 CAD for motherboard, CPU, Fans, case. I just installed the PSU, HD7970 GPU. Now I'm waiting for my 16gb of ram to arrive to see if it will turn on lol.
I have a T3500, non handle version, I got it from a client who didn't want it anymore it had a 2 core Xeon, I upgraded the power supply to the Evga 700w Bronze, upgraded the processor to a 6core xeon X5680, and plan on up grading the graphics card soon but right now it has a PNY gtx 660, running a sata wd blue SSD and a 1TB HDD. Didn't upgrade the processor yet but we'll see how performance is after that. Also running 24gb of ram, it's a beast of a workstation though
The GTX 1080 is no longer being produced new. You should look at getting a GTX 1660 Ti. In our opinion the GTX 1660 ti is the best value GPU for the T3500 Workstation.
can you please post the NVME drive benchmarks that you installed vs the stated speed that is given on there website? Please if you can. I want to buy this today but im not sure if i will be getting full sped or not.
Couple things I noticed in this video. There is a white plug for internal speaker near the battery which isn’t mentioned on the service manual. Noticed yours had a cable connected and mine didn’t so wondered what it was at first. Also closer to ram is a 4 pin plug which looks similar to the 5 pin fan plugs but cannot find info what it is for. Near the sata there is another 5 pin fan cable which is used for optional hdd cage but this could be used for adding another fan. All three fans can be controller and adjusted through hwinfo64.
Sweet, and the 1080 is a great card. I've got a 1080 ti in my main PC and have had zero problems with it for about the past 2 years. 8) My T3500 is now a combination Hackintosh/ Windows 10 PC. * I transferred the motherboard to a bit of a modded ATX case that would not otherwise have been able to fit this motherboard; * I used a dremel to cut out one of the 5.25 front bay mesh areas, then wrapped weather strip around the Dell header, put it inside a piece of cardboard box, sharpied it black, and fit it in, so I still have the header connected, and it looks pretty natural looking at the front of the case. ***** The header is the one thing that never seems to work for case transfers, and some people just opt to go without it being connected and use the power switch on the PSU (also EVGA 600 Watt that I got for like $30 or $40) to turn off the PC. I still currently use a pen or pencil to push the little power button on, but it's simple and gives me the 2 USB header spots. * This PC has the CPU cooler type that allowed for a push-pull fan setup via zip ties; * It has a mish-mash of 4 sticks of old 2 GB RAM along with 2 sticks of 8 GB RAM for a total of 24 GB, which works fine with the X5680 (I believe that's the one I opted for). * I used Throttlestop software to overclock the CPU a little even though it's not really an overclocking CPU (nor overclocking motherboard). * I initially put in an R9 280 AMD GPU in but upgraded to an RX580 a while back since it works without any fuss with the Mac OS High Sierra. * I also replaced the lower front case fan with a red LED fan using a cheap Dell 5 pin to 4 pin adapter cable I got from eBay, and I used another adapter to connect to a splitter for adding more fans. Anyway, thanks. You and another TH-camr were early inspirations for me to start modding my setup. I had initially bought the T3500 in very good shape from someone off Craigslist, with 8 GB total RAM and one of the lower end CPU's for like $75 with a small monitor, with the intention of slightly upgrading it to give to a friend since he still had a very old Mac G2 computer. Once I saw the other TH-camr comment that he turned his into a Hackintosh, that's when I really spent some time working to make it where he would be able to use an updated Mac OS. But he turned it down and ended up with a new-ish iMac, so I decided to just hold onto it and continue modding it more for a nice backup PC, and it games great, connects with my audio interface for recording guitars, etc... If I didn't have my main PC setup, this would be my daily driver with no problem whatsoever. And I'm still tempted to see if I could pull off an interesting case mod to the original Dell case.
I own a t3500 w3690 8 GB ram with custom 2 80 mm fans mounted to the heatsink and with custom side panel and RGB strip ... Right now have a. Quadro ,2000 new GPU coming soon
@@GreenPCGamerscom the X58 motherboards are better but their so much . You can use fast DDR 3 ram i think 1600 also you can over clock the cpu in bios The T3500 only cam take 1333 speed ram . If you stick 1300 regular ram it rums at the 1066 speed .
@@GreenPCGamerscom ok after some looking it turns out that the w3520 only will do 1066 speed ram . even if you have 1333 speed in it . i just ordered an X5675 cpu that supports 1333 . it was 30 bucks
Bit of a noob with all of this. Looking to setup the new flight sim 20 and run it in 4K / as high as possible. I have a T3500 3.33GHz with upgraded power supply etc. I’m looking at getting a top end GTX GPU in a couple of months when they come out, possibly 3080... Is there any reason this system wouldn’t fully utilise a graphics card like this and run 4K gaming well? Trying to understand the bottleneck with this system and whether to just build a new gaming pc from scratch. Thanks for any help in advance!
I found a precision t3500 I think I’m not sure and it has a Xeon cpu with 32 gb ram and 1Tb of space with windows 10 and a old amd graphics card for 105$ is it a good idea to buy it or nah
I found my T3500 in the garbage lol, it didn't boot up. I switched out the cpu for a w3565 that I had laying around and it booted up with no prob! Now I'm gonnna put a GTX 970 in it and enjoy it!
The 525W Power Supply should be fine if you are running a GTX 1060 Graphics Card. If you run in to power issues, you can always upgrade to an ATX PSU with more wattage. We have a video on our channel that will show you how to upgrade the power supply.
The best processor would be the Xeon 6C X5690 3.46Ghz CPU. However, the best value would be the Xeon QC X5687 3.6GHz CPU. You'll want to update your bios and make sure you have the copper heatsink before upgrading the processors. Thanks for commenting.
i have a t3500 with 240 GB SSD i tb hard drive and 500gb nvme drive so far im not able to use the other drives they show up but I can't load anything on them
so dude same pc going to amd rx 550 too a msi geforce gtx 970 4g when i plug it in and power it all im getting on reboot is no signal on the screen any suggestions ??
If you gave us a choice between the T7400 and the T3500, we'd pick the T3500 100 times out of 100. The T7400 is a DDR2 Based Workstation and the T3500 is a DDR3 Based Workstation. You'll achieve much better performance on the T3500.
Ah great, I’ve been searching for someone who has added a RTX GPU to their t3500, as I’m considering a RTX 2070. What brand RTX is yours? And does anyone know if any brands/models don’t work? Thanks
Hi i'm wondering if is possible upgrade The T3500 with 6x16gb modules of ecc ram. The requirements says that the maximum is 24gb but on ebay i have seen t3500 with 48gb.
Hey Ettore, the T3500 doesn't support registered modules. You won't be able to locate 16gb 10600E modules. You might be able to install 6 x 8GB PC10600E or 12800E modules. However, we haven't tested 6 x 8GB modules in a T3500 yet. Thanks for commenting.
Hi, I saw on the web page that i can instal a xeon x5690 cpu in this, can I just install it and turn it on and play, or do i have to do other things first, and if so how can I do those things?
hi i have a dell t3500 with xpdfk motherboard now i usually use gtx 1050 2gb inno3d but i plan to upgrade to 1060 or rx580 will it be ok if i put one of these graphics cards? xeon x5675 processor 6/12
The system will use up to 3.46Ghz if it actually needs it. There are some other youtubers that have posted videos on how to set your computer to run at it's max turbo frequency all the time. We wouldn't recommend doing that unless you upgrade to a more robust cpu cooler.
How are you? First I want to thank you for your contribution. And I have these questions: Does the NVIDIA GTX1050 TI 4GB Graphics Card work well on my PRECISION T3500 Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU W3530 @ 2.80GHz? If so, are any of the NVIDIA GTX1050 TI 4GB Graphics Card variants supported? Thank you very much
@@GreenPCGamerscom i just installed my gtx 1050 ti and was wondering how hot my pc get's the cpu hits 99 degrees! Could you tell me if this is normal on these machines? My HP 8300 elite i had before never got over 65 :/
You are at 99 Celsius?!?! If so, shut the system down immediately. You will have to trouble shoot and determine what is causing the system to overheat.
@@GreenPCGamerscom It's the cpu but i don't know why, i replaced the thermalpaste with MX4 (used the vertical method) but it still reaches 87 celsius... I also cleaned the whole pc
I just recieved one of these. I have a 70 dollar budget. I plan to put a Xeon X5650 and a GTX 960 in it. Would that be a good option? It had an SSD *duct taped* straight to the hard drive holder.
HI! I thinking put a graphite thermal pad to processor w3690 that recently I bought.... what graphite thermal pad size is ideal for the W3690 processor? 30x30mm or 40x40mm? thanks!!
Brilliant video! I just have two questions as I can't find the answers anywhere. 1. Is it possible to undervolt and underclock the CPU from the BIOS? I'm not looking for overclocking, just underclock and undervolt. 2. Does the latest BIOS supports Hexa-Core X56xx CPUs? Thanks you very much!
I don't think the stock Dell Bios is going to let you do any modifications like overclocking/underclocking or undervolting the CPU. And frankly speaking one should not try these on Xeon CPUs. And yes T3500 support Xeon x5650 processor that comes with a whopping 12MB cache. With 1 * Xeon x5650 processor, 16gb RAM, 1TB HDD and the stock 500 watts PSU the system costs around PKR 20,000 here in Peshawar.
Your best bet is to find a clean machine that has not been brutally overheated in the past or overhauled after an "incident", if you know what I mean. And then upgrade it with at least 128gb SSD and 16gb RAM in total. If you can buy new GPU that would be best because I wouldn't trust GPUs used for mining if I were building my own system. I'm personally looking for a system that can support a GTX 1660 for now. Even if it is a T3500.
Hello friend I have a dell precision t3500 I want to install the geforce Gtx1650 super I would like to know if it is compatible or would it have driver problems or would it be okay ???? would generate a bottleneck?
I picked up a t3500 x5650 gtx 1050 ti SSD 240 24 g ddr3 and a multi-card reader with 2 USB 3.0 ports. don't know if I can upgrade GPU without bottlenecking? I was thing maybe gtx 1060
I upgraded a T3500 with more ram, a GTX 1650 Super, a Xeon 5675, and an SSD, but they all benchmark about 80% of where they should be. Any ideas? Is it the motherboard? Or did I just get unlucky with all four of them?
I have T3500 with Xenon W3690 24GB of RAM and I added to it GTX970. I am running it on vanilla 525W PSU. I bought it right when Geforce 900 series just went out and it was a bargain, I paid less then half the price of GPU for that PC (although it had only 12GB of ram then) . I only have a small 128 samsung ssd but I added a pcie SATA3 converter to boost the speed a bit. Anyone knows how T3500 is behaving on Win10? There were no drivers for Win10 on dell site so i sticked to Win7 but this year the support ends so I am a bit worried. Also anyone knows would upgrading to any GXT 1000 serries would be a good idea? I was thinking to buy used GPU. I game a bit but I also used to do some CUDA computation and some neural network stuff and I plan to get back to it now.
We've been running windows 10 on a few of our T3500 test beds and they run fine. What GTX 10XX card were you thinking of purchasing? Your 525W Power Supply will limit your options.
@@GreenPCGamerscom I was thinking about changing the PSU and going crazy with 1080ti 11gb. I could use the extra memory and extra CUDA cores for some neural nets. I am a bit worried that 1080ti would be an overkill and that the rest of the hardware would bottleneck it a lot. I want to get rid of 970 mostly because the "last" 512MB is running at slower speeds, so you everything goes nice and smooth til I reach 3.5GB and a then boom my code is running 10x slower :/
You should consider an EVGA RTX 2080 instead of the 1080 Ti. They are faster and they run a bit cooler then the 1080 ti. There will be some bottlenecking regardless of the card that you purchase. However, it's pretty minimal.
@@GreenPCGamerscom Thanks for advise :-) It is hard to find a 1080ti within my budget it would be even harder to get 2080. I am also worried to put together such untested rig, there is always a risk that it will be unstable. I will look into stats and benchmarks, thanks a lot :-)
I'm having an issue with my setup. My boot drive SSD has windows 10, but the computer wont boot into it. While in linux (it can boot to Linus Mint) i can read the contents of the ssd and even move files from it. Any ideas of what could be wrong?
i recently bought a dell T3500 at goodwill for $25. it has a xeon w3500 cpu not sure if there are better options for gaming ? trying to decide between MSI Radeon RX 580 ARMOR 8GB or an MSI GeForce GTX 1060 6GB for a graphics card.

There is two 5pin sockets with labels FAN_CCAG and FAN_FRONT, that connectors type does not match. Maybe pin out scheme?
You can buy an adapter for Dell 5 pin to 4 pin on either ebay or amazon; I can't remember which one I used. But it's worked well for me. Great question. It does bottleneck the gpu, but only slightly when it comes to Average FPS benchmarks. For example: We tested a Precision T5820 with a Xeon W-2125 4.0Ghz Processor vs a HP Z600 that had 2 x Xeon 6C X5675 Processors installed. Both systems had the same EVGA GTX 1660 Ti XC Graphics Card installed. The Furmark FPS Benchmarks were almost identical on 720P/1080P/1440P. During an actual gaming benchmark in 1440p we saw 70 Average FPS on the Z600 and 73 Average FPS on the T5820. We'll be releasing a video in the next few days with more detail. Thanks for commenting.

GreenPCGamers.com hey mate sorry to ask more questions but I’ve tried dell an VMware an they won’t help because I didn’t purchase license key I got it through my schooling I tried everything and can’t figure it out the files won’t show up as .vmx in my folders and I tried the ignore which loaded it but when trying to install the server file says this host does not support virtualising real mode the intel “vmx unrestricted guest feature is necessary to run this virtual machine on this intel processor module ‘CPUIDEarly’ power on failed failed to start any ideas ???
We have very limited VMware knowledge. You might have better luck using an old version of esxi like version 5.0. Also, make sure you have vt enabled in the bios.

when will the gtx 1080 price will go down or are they going to make more ?
The GTX 1080 is no longer being produced new. You should look at getting a GTX 1660 Ti. In our opinion the GTX 1660 ti is the best value GPU for the T3500 Workstation.

GoodDay Sir, Does 48gb Ram compatible in this set-up?
Do i have to get a good cpu cooler or is the stock cooling system already good enough
Make sure to use heat sink pn u016F.
I believe that white connection is for an optional internal speaker. I'm not 100% sure on that though.
Sweet, and the 1080 is a great card. I've got a 1080 ti in my main PC and have had zero problems with it for about the past 2 years. 8)
My T3500 is now a combination Hackintosh/ Windows 10 PC.
* I transferred the motherboard to a bit of a modded ATX case that would not otherwise have been able to fit this motherboard;
* I used a dremel to cut out one of the 5.25 front bay mesh areas, then wrapped weather strip around the Dell header, put it inside a piece of cardboard box, sharpied it black, and fit it in, so I still have the header connected, and it looks pretty natural looking at the front of the case.
* This PC has the CPU cooler type that allowed for a push-pull fan setup via zip ties;
* It has a mish-mash of 4 sticks of old 2 GB RAM along with 2 sticks of 8 GB RAM for a total of 24 GB, which works fine with the X5680 (I believe that's the one I opted for).

I have Dell T3500 & I want to Install Gtx 1060 , should I go with same power supply ? 525V
Is it Work well or Not ?
The 525W Power Supply should be fine if you are running a GTX 1060 Graphics Card. If you run in to power issues, you can always upgrade to an ATX PSU with more wattage. We have a video on our channel that will show you how to upgrade the power supply.

Dell t7400 with xeon x5482 or t3500 with xeon e5520?
I see more t3500 builds, but isnt the t7400 and overall better machine to build on?
If you gave us a choice between the T7400 and the T3500, we'd pick the T3500 100 times out of 100. The T7400 is a DDR2 Based Workstation and the T3500 is a DDR3 Based Workstation. You'll achieve much better performance on the T3500.

Install the latest bios and make sure to get the copper high performance heat sink before installing an x5690 cpu.

Yes, those upgrades will work.
Can I use my turbo on my x5680 cpu to jump from 3.33 to 3.60 and how do I do that
The system should automatically ramp up to 3.6Ghz as needed.
I have an x5675 in my t3500 but it only clocks up to 3.31 ghz according to task manager? Any idea how i can get the full 3.46ghz turbo boost?
The system will use up to 3.46Ghz if it actually needs it. There are some other youtubers that have posted videos on how to set your computer to run at it's max turbo frequency all the time. We wouldn't recommend doing that unless you upgrade to a more robust cpu cooler.

Hello friend I have a dell precision t3500 I want to install the geforce Gtx1650 super
I would like to know if it is compatible or would it have driver problems or would it be okay ???? would generate a bottleneck?
The GTX 1650 Super should have minimal bottle-becking on the T3500.
I picked up a t3500 x5650 gtx 1050 ti SSD 240 24 g ddr3 and a multi-card reader with 2 USB 3.0 ports. don't know if I can upgrade GPU without bottlenecking? I was thing maybe gtx 1060
The GTX 1060 would be a good option.
I upgraded a T3500 with more ram, a GTX 1650 Super, a Xeon 5675, and an SSD, but they all benchmark about 80% of where they should be. Any ideas? Is it the motherboard? Or did I just get unlucky with all four of them?
It's a combo platter. Although, 80% is still pretty decent for the components that you installed.
Can i change the casing to a gaming one.?

Hey greenpcgaming I recently purchased a t3500 it come with a w3530 @2.80ghz 2800 MHz 4 core 4 logical processor but when I’m trying to install VMware 15 pro saying the host doesn’t support necessary hardware requirements if I got the w3690 mentioned here would that fix it ?
Does it actually install and function?
GreenPCGamers.com I’m not sure never tryed because when try install is says cpu not support should I just try and install ?
You can try to install it. That error message is VMware’s way of saying “we won’t provide support if you have issues because you are using legacy hardware”.
Also, make sure you have vt enabled in the bios.
i guess i'm the only one running a Quadro FX1800 XD
It might time for an upgrade =)
@@GreenPCGamerscom yes it is ...will a r9 270x be okay in it with a W3565 processor?
Mani Qureshi I’ve never tested that particular card. However, it would be a nice upgrade from the FX1800 if you are able to install it.
@@GreenPCGamerscom thank you sir for the information and what about the Processor sir? tbh before i saw your video i was planing to sale my T3500 and buy a T3600 instead but now i'm thinking upgrading it is the best solution. Thanks once again
