  • The ISB crew reacts to the USMNT's domination by Canada in a friendly in Kansas City. Canada won 2-1 through goals by Shaffelburg and Jonathan David before Luca De la Torre got one back for the USMNT. Who stood out for you on the Canadian team? And can Pochettino fix the disastrous USMNT?

    Canadian fan here. The one thing I will say having watched all of Canada's games for the last several years is that this improvement has not been as sudden as it seems. We've just been continually adding good pieces, starting with Phonzie. Adding Herdman was a huge step forward as well, helping us change our team culture. As we've gotten better, we've now been able to attract dual nationals as well. These are good players that previously would have played for a different country, despite some Canadian roots, but are now happy to come play for an improving and exciting team. It's been steady forward momentum for a few years and as more pieces come together the momentum is increasing. Fun to watch!

      Yup it's been an up and down journey, but I would say mostly up for Canada over the last 10 years. Hoping it continues - would love to see a successful 2026!

    I think the global game has been a great equalizer with equal training ground for players from both countries. US has a much bigger base of quality players in their development system, but you only need 15 at the top, and in Canada they predominantly play for top European teams, with support from MLS.

    Another Canadian fan. USA expectations are so high! USA is still a good team and Pulisic is still a dangerous and effective player, in all games as far as I can tell. I t wasn’t too long ago that the USA had cemented kings of concacaf, and deservedly. One thing I will agree with is boring berhalter ball. Canada is fun to watch! Regarding Alphonso Davies, I love the way he is playing now. He’s doing the job of his position, and attacks when appropriate and generally makes good decisions. When they were trying to get “more” out of him, he often made mistakes. You could sense the pressure of having to do it himself. Not necessary, and never is in soccer - unless you are Messi - and even then he rarely does everything himself, he needs a good straight man to bounce the ball off of. I’m worried that JM’s “system” is too predictable. With a little practice and skill, switching up the play makes Canada very vulnerable. It’s also too demanding on the players for the long term. They need to operate under at least 2 modes - which they may be doing somewhat. A high intensity and lower intensity. If you watch old Barcelona games, you never get the sense that there are real vulnerabilities, it’s very defensively balanced. Not so with Canada. I thought their second game against France was excellent defensively. As was the first half against the Dutch. I think that is where the team should be most of the time, with the high intensity pressing reserved for special occasions, like the beginning of a half or during lulls. It was in my opinion over the top against the USA. Although if you can quickly score a couple, you might put the game away early.

    I was following the Canadian team in 86 when they went to the world cup and did not score a goal. We did nothing after that till a few years ago. So you think your suffering is an American fan? You have seen no black days compared to that. So if you see Canadian fans gloating a little bit, that is why!!!

      That's incredible, man! I've been following CMNT since 2005, and I saw some dark days, too. The worst loss I ever saw Canada play was against Honduras. We lost 8-1 in the 2014 WC qualifications. It was hard to believe we would ever be good after that day. But I am glad we're here.

    Mercurial players seem to find their way to Chelsea...Pulisic included. Hope Chelsea doesn't pick up any Canadian players...seems to be a graveyard there for talent...Canada needs better competition than the US, Panama, and Mexico and Costa Rica...would be great if Canada could play CONNEMBOL teams like Argentina, Brazil, Columbia more often...they are good enough to get beyond the group stage in the WC and a little further...

    I stop watching the USMNT games because every time I watch I always get frustrated. It has always been experimental. The only player I think that can play consistently and well is Anthony Robinson. Period. The rests look like rich kids in the neighborhood who can do some flares somehow got into good universities (clubs) but dont even play that well

  • @C_Fisherman
    @C_Fisherman หลายเดือนก่อน

    Even the missing USMNT players would not have made a difference. Reyna is all “potential” but no substance. Dest is a defensive liability and has never proven to be top class. McKennie has bad attitude. It’s time for USMNT fans to wake up. US is just not good enough. You might as well bring GGG back and just give up on the 2026 World Cup.

    I can't call Canada kings of CONCACAF, it was just a friendly (although it wasn't to Jesse Marsch and Canada played as such) Canada need to start winning trophies if they want to be considered the best in the region, as for the US, for all their talent, they need to show some guts, that's Poch's biggest job, get them to show some guts and pride to play for their national team, their seems to be some complacency with the US, certain players need to learn talent alone isn't enough, for example look at Alphonso Davies, he's told he's good constantly but he works hard and isn't complacent (there's a reason he's been linked with Real Madrid), Canadian players aren't showing any complacency and last night the US were lucky it was only 2-1

    • @Luso00_

      I'm Canadian. Don't give us "Kings of CONCACAF" just yet. Canada doesn't deserve it after a friendly, especially when Pochettino isn't in seat yet. Canada needs silverware to show for it. Kings of CONCACAF still belong to America.

    • @mrmr5580
      @mrmr5580 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Luso00_ I agree, in terms of talent there isn't a lot between Canada and the US, but last might Canada played with a mentality the US just didn't have, the US were lucky it was only 2-1, I put you at 1 and 2 in CONCACAF, but as you said Canada need trophies before they get to be no.1, it's been brilliant watching you guys and the US develop in the way you have since the 90's (im actually English but have several American and Canadian friends who got me watching CONCACAF)
