I love how some TH-camrs have basically become Bards, singing the tales of the differnet Companions like they are part of that world. It makes the game feel more real
I know this is just supposed to be a Karlach song, but as a war veteran with PTSD, I identify with the lyrics all too well. I tear up every time I hear it. Thanks, Colm, for writing into song what I sometimes can't say myself.
Hey regardless of country, I'm glad you're still with us and holding strong. I'm sorry you suffer but know that you did something that most people only dream of and you have my deepest respect. Never ever feel ashamed of shedding tears.
It makes sense sadly. Kalach was forced to do terrible things in a war she never even wanted to be in. I have talked to a lot of Vietnam Vet that had this feeling too. Regardless of the war or the country, it makes sense to connect. Hell I have never been in war, but I feel so much connection to this to with PTSD from "war" with certain parts of society and things I have been though. Take care of yourself
"Revenge and redemption both tread the same lines" This entire song is such a good overview of the pain beneath Karlach's tough front. Killed it my friend! clapclapclapclapclapclapclap

For those of you who have also run the adventure Descent Into Avernus, there's something to be said about how this song quietly highlights how much Zariel and Karlach's stories have in common and how much of a foil Karlach is for Zariel's fall from grace. I think it's absolutely a shame that we didn't get any scenes with Zariel in the game itself, because there's something poignant that could've been done there.

@@thelorewright Much more than that! By most Lore implications, he STARTED the Blood War to gather power and raise himself to godhood. It is quite literally HIS war.
Dear Sir, I didn't even play Baldur's Gate, but oh Gods, this song is soooo amazing, I've been listening it on repeat three days in a row, and I still love it. Just THANK YOU, PLEASE DO MORE
Oh my, everyone is burning up for Karlach it seems. Plenty of songs with her that have ascended recently. It's quite a devilish surprise, but a welcome one.
I'm really thankful for a song that actually goes in depth into Karlach as a character. All other fan songs I've heard are always extremely peppy and gloss over all the pain she went through and the turmoil she actually feels when she's not masking it all. This song captures it perfectly.
For people who aren't familiar with wider DnD lore, "His War" might be confusing, since Karlach served Zariel, who is a she. However, I presume this refers to the fact that Zariel herself serves Asmodeus, and that you could say that the Blood War is "His" war, since he's one of the main interested parties. One of the theories is that Asmodeus began this war to ensure his own ascension to godhood and control over the lower planes, which he is largely successful in.
I’ve said so elsewhere, but I also want to point out that to that effect, if you just change a scant few details this song is about Zariel herself being bound to Asmodeus. The adventure Descent Into Avernus (a direct tie in to BG3) shows that when Zariel fell from the Heavens, she did it because she’d attempted to force a peace in the Bloodwar herself. Her forces were dropping like flies, so she turned to Asmodeus in desperation. In fact, while it is apparently not the canon ending to BG3, in that adventure if the players manage to make a sufficiently strong case, they can convince her to take up her old weapon and start walking toward redemption. (Granted, the way the adventure suggests you do it is very silly, and I don’t like it). Anyway, the point is that Zariel and Karlach are way more alike than people realize and that’s something I desperately hope gets explored in any future BG media.
Man, I need that sweater. Just beautiful, not saying anything of the music itself. Good to hear those passionate pipes you've got without all the tuning and all in on the passion.
I can safely say, after hearing you for years at this point, I have no doubt in my mind that you are one of the great singers of our generation, I have not been disappointed once by any of your songs, you can easily feel the passion and effort that goes into making these songs. Excellent work!
I would give it a shot if its not too bad of a rig. Just cap your fps to 30 or 44 and look up optimization guides for the game. Benchmarking and Zykopath have good ones. Its a turn based game so you really dont need high fps. And game's performance is much better now compared to when it launched.
"Avalon" by the Dreadnoughts. I have yet to see anyone cover it but I feel like you'd nail it. "This is basically the only good song we've ever done", they said.
Came here from Karlach themselves, Samantha Béart! Hearing your song in their stream, I had to go find it properly and man, what a banger! Amazing job!
This is haunting and beautiful, and I love it. The only reason it's not hands-down my favorite Karlach song is that I've had Jonathan Young's "Devil With A Heart of Iron" stuck in my head since five minutes after it was released... but still, this is amazing. Immediately going on my playlists.
I can't stop listening to this on loop but every time I hear that first note I keep thinking you're about to play Old Time Battles from the soundtrack!
The game is every bit and unique and beautiful as the content. The characters are the most immersive and human seeming characters I have EVER witnessed in any game. Beautifully complex individuals.
Glad you're back :) Also, in case you're still working on that Shanty Album I'd really like to suggest Ode to Falling from Peter Pan and Wendy and All For me Grog by The Longest Johns. And my sister wanted to suggest Float from Tinkerbell. God Bless :)
I adore the soft breatiness you sang the first part in. It seems to me (might be wrong of course) you prefer to sing more powerfully most of the time, and that does sound fantastic, don't get me wrong, I love that. But you need not hold back on the sofness either, especially when you put more force in the chorus for contrast. You're an extremely versatile singer and it's been exciting to watch you develop more and more

Full Lyrics:
Far off on the risen road
Sits demonsbane
Plagued by the scars and
The thoughts that remain
A way to resolve but
No way to forget
Unchained and Unshackled
But bound by regret
Twisted in Torment
As you waged his war
You were adorned in
The weight of their souls
How to atone
And to wash what you've seen
Hands forced by another
But stained all the same
Clawed up from below
You escaped from the nine
Revenge and Redemption
Both tread the same lines
Twisted in Torment
As you waged his war
You were adorned in
The weight of their souls
Mistress of War
After you made them fall
You were adorned in
The weight of us all
Twisted in Torment
As you waged his war
You were adorned in
The weight of their souls
Mistress of War
After you made them fall
You were adorned in
The weight of us all
Now you also need to do one for every companion.
PLEASE
And for every player class, subclass and race combination!

It's even better since it could refer to Gortash OR Asmodeus.
