    "Whatever needed to be done, I did". That's a great attitude to have, which will get anyone far.

    • @AnneKathrinDernComposer
      @AnneKathrinDernComposer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It does also invite a lack of boundaries though, which I definitely had to learn over time.

    • @simon_patterson
      @simon_patterson 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AnneKathrinDernComposer yes, learning healthy boundaries is also essential to success. There can sometimes be a big difference between "doing whatever needed to be done" and "doing whatever I was asked to do".

    I would say, from my position, some steps behind - having watched some of the films you've scored on Netflix and listened to the work - it's definitely not going to fall apart in a year! ;) I've been greatly inspired by your videos since last September when I suffered a loss. They have encouraged me to climb back up, to work and push myself harder towards the next goal which is to score my first feature film. Thank you truly for the information and the effort you've put into making these videos, and I'm excited for your future ahead as a composer.

      Nick…You took the words out of my mouth. She is an amazing composer. I also still don’t understand how she is able to speak English without an accent. She must have a very good ear, as they say. These videos are priceless. They help me reflect upon my 17 years in the business and that the decision to stay on the East Coast with family instead of going to Hollywood away from family was the better decision for me. I, too, have scored over 60 films…but not films at her level. Nevertheless, I tried my best. She, however, will go very far, indeed. I feel the industry will be better, when that happens.

    Love your honesty and ability to share the process we all have to go through in most all areas of music and showbiz. .. that is you want to stay the course. To be professional may be different in every game, but it’s the persistent who are prepared to keep going who eventually find themselves regarded as the “pros”. Thank you for this.🌹🇿🇦

    I am on the same boat as you professionally and nowhere near where I want to be but I am in a different industry altogether. All I can say is keep pushing and good things will come eventually. Music is a hobby for me and i have zero formal knowledge on the subject but I would like to get to a point where I can license some of my compositions for a game or movie. I try to use my profession to help musicians and promote collaboration between artists and even help charities that teach music to kids. Your videos have helped me understand how your industry works and what skills I need to develop. I am currently in the hospital for an operation and I feel lucky to have found your channel to keep my mind busy with something I enjoy. God bless you.

    You are obviously touched by your own journey, your own live. I think this (and many other qualities you have) is what makes you credible and what makes your music believable.
    I would make any bet that you have written pieces which had let yourself cry or lough or had made yourself thoughtful. This is a gift, not an achievement. The latter is to use this gift the right way, as you apperently do.

    Very interesting to see what a possible career arc looks like for a composer. I had to decide myself if I was going to go with music or tech in college and ended up going with tech and I ended up in video game programming. Still writing some music on the side and always trying to learn more about the processes/gain some better skills. You always wonder about the road not taken.

    So cool that you studied in the Netherlands. I'm currently a student at the HKU (you probably know it if you went to ArtEZ right?). In my opinion there's way too little attention for virtual orchestration at the HKU. I'm sure the HKU would love to have you for a masterclass or something like that. I know many students here would.

    It's so refreshing and encouraging to listen as you share your experiences which are rich with wisdom and practical viewpoints. I have been privy to a few master classes for film scoring and I must say that all of them, though likely more experienced, could take notes from your system of delivery. I hang on to every word of advice, caution, and more. My prayer for you is that you truly "get there"... wherever you want "there" to be. I feel that I've learned much more from your videos than I could have learned if I went to school for this purpose. Every subject is what I'm interested in and answers every question in astonishing detail. Thanks for every effort to bring these videos to us.

    Awesome Anne...Can you do a video about how your project files are going here and there..like you compose your mock up..then project goes to the producer..then it comes back to you with small changes and you do the changes and send to orchestrator..and he prepares the score sheets and brings to the live session...do the recording engineer use your project file to record the live session or he start a new project to record the live recording..? if so what about the tracks you had in your mockup, but did not send to the orchestrator (synth, orchestral effects, percussions)...how do you combine the recorded stuff and your original mockup to gain the full composition..then how it is going to mixing stage or re-recording session...dont know i am asking too much hope u got what i meant..the journey of your project file from mockup to final mix stage.....thanks and keep up the good work...

    Hi Anne. I really enjoy the videos where you give us a behind-the-scenes look into the world of scoring. I'm just a hobbyist and only started last year playing around with making music. I know next to nothing about composition and even music theory but it's super interesting to me. I don't see myself ever making any money from it but I'm enjoying the ride and the learning is rewarding on a personal level. I'm curious... though your super busy... do you ever make music just for the fun of it?

      Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m really glad you enjoy my videos. :-) I rarely make music just for the fun of it since I need to recharge my creative energy in between projects. But sometimes I’ll do fun stuff with friends or play an instrument just for fun. It’s definitely something I want to work on in the future - the “play” aspect of this whole thing can easily get lost when it’s your full-time job.

    With your Cinesamples experience you could start your own sample library company so you can make passive income in-between composing gigs.

    Hallo Anne, ich hoffe, es stört dich nicht, wenn ich dein Video in Deutsch kommentiere - es ist ja auch nur für dich, englische Mitleser können ja Deepl nutzen. Ich möchte dir meine Bewunderung ausdrücken, dafür, dass du derart straight und zielbewusst deinen Weg gehst, und dabei neben dem Ausbau deines unzweifelhaft großen Talents hart arbeitest, stets dazulernst und dein Wissen und deine Erfahrung derart gernerös mit uns teilst. Ich sehe dich in einigen Jahren als einen der ganz großen Namen auf der Leinwand und bin froh, dich vorher entdeckt zu haben. Du wirst meine Ermutigung nicht brauchen, denn du strahlst eine unglaubliche Power aus. Ich möchte dir nur mitteilen, dass du nie an dir zweifeln darfst. Ich weiss, das tust du zur Zeit nicht, aber wir alle haben diese Momente. Geh dann einfach drüber und sei dir bewusst, dass du etwas Besonderes bist und dass es viele Menschen gibt, die das wissen. Alles Gute - Rael.
    PS: Dein "Tristans Long Farewell" ist zum Weinen schön und trifft absolut meinen Nerv. Liebst du auch Sibelius?

    Thank you for sharing Anne! I have a question. Do you think the style of film music can be something that can be self taught, or is a formal education essential?

    • @AnneKathrinDernComposer
      @AnneKathrinDernComposer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      First you'd have to define "style of film music" as there is no such thing. I'm currently writing a score that requires both heavy synth use / sound design elements and also Baroque counterpoint. Before that I've done a score that was all pop and jazz. And before that I've done a score that was all traditional orchestra but also contained two songs. So what style are we talking about?

      @@AnneKathrinDernComposer I’m mostly interested in scoring with an orchestra.

    Would you say the reason why the journey is slow and exhausting is because its normal or because you are less well treated as a woman in the music industry? Genuine question.

      basically a rough idea of what you want a score to be. Think like a slightly more refined sketch when you're drawing

    It's an evidence you deserve that you live... I don't want to bother you with to much thanks.....but thanks (and all those persons who made it possible, goood and bad too). Do you have any tipee acccount ... it would be real pleasure to participate in a way!
