    How do I get mentorship - 1000 or 3000 hours under a seasoned appraiser - why would they want to work with me ? Where do I find them ?

      How do you add value? If you have connections to lenders its a big +. Sometimes the older appraisers are not as tech savvy and that can be a selling point.

      With this current economy I can't imagine any appraisal offices or firms hiring. Also, this is a shrinking industry.

    • @dbb1064
      @dbb1064 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not hiring, but I've never had someone call me asking for a mentor either. The changes made by regulators and many appraisal management companies don't want to see a trainee helping out. So its tough for us.

      interest rates and inflation have, sorry for the terminology but, fucked those of us who are just starting. two guys I know have maybe one or two gigs a week and do not want to have to slow down to show me how to inspect or write up - luckily I know how to inspect so I can shadow just to build confidence but yeah, it's really bad right now. I have a family friend who's on the listing side of things and has had to dig deep into savings just to keep bills paid.
      It's not you, it's bad right now. I took up a cabinetry apprenticeship to keep money coming in which helps me learn more of the ins and outs of remodels and how I might comp that when the market picks back up.
      Stay dedicated to this because it will turn around.

      Practice your ass off measuring and detailing what you see on your own house and bring that to a mentor. They are spending time training you, you have to bring something to the table. Offer to do the data entry on the URAR for them, offer to shadow them on an inspection and compare sq.ft., later so they are confident sending you out to inspect and run comps while they can deal with a report.
      Offer to work for free (it's what I'm doing, only have ONE mentor right now and averaging ONE inspection every few weeks but hey, it's experience and hours), until you're trained up enough you can go out on your own jobs, write up your own reports and collect 20% of the fee.

    • @MrHartApart
      @MrHartApart 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would say it's more about pounding pavement. Many certifieds won't want a trainee since it could easily slow them down hence the call a lot of them. It would be good to know how to do a field inspection right out of the gate however; makes a certified happy to take you on since that can increase his/her workload.@@mcarroll78
