Raya can play as an extra defender in possession, offering passing options, creating numerical advantage.
Keeping possession so that we can maximise the quality and quantity of our possession, ball progression and chance creation, which would eventually turns into goals. More possession also means we would face a lot less shots.
Attract the opponent to press him so there will be an unmarked teammate elsewhere, breaking the opponent’s press.
He has great vision, game reading and decision making on when to pass slow/fast, when to go long/short, dictating the tempo at the back. Has great long and short pass accuracy. Great at claiming crosses.
Playing tiki taka passes. Silky with his touches, close control, dribbling and passes.
If any team wanted to improve towards the very top in modern football, they will have to eventually sign a ball playing goalkeeper.
Bravo and Onana might not be the final answer, but JoeHart and DeGea must be replaced. Pure shotstoppers are rubsh in the modern game.

I agree with you. Modern keepers are necessary for possession based but we should not discredit shot stoppers too. Many of the sides which leak goals are saved by a brilliant shot stoppers. Like when Arsenal defence was bad Leno saved us many times. Both of the roles are important for different sides depending on their play style.

If you play out from the back a million times, then a few of them WILL be a mistake.
These are expected because we wanted to take this small risk in exchange for all the massive rewards.
If you never play out from the back, you would not make a passing mistake. But you will never get all the massive rewards.

Arsenal fans are more obsessed with saves thats why they love Ramsdale but what they dont realize is Arsenal as a team is evolving....our playing style is evolving. We are in a state where our defence is not even allowing one shot on target from the opponents. So we need a keeper who plays like an extra defender not the old school keeper like Ramsdale.
Raya suits this system well.....plays like an extra defender and always out of his line. Raya can go a full 90mins and saves nothing.....while with Ramsdale we are always under pressure

I think Ramsdale should stay and learn from Raya as second gk, sell nketiah elnany, zinchenko, Tierney and bring new winger, striker, cdm and another defender to cover Saliba, because we have many matches in 1 season and players need rest each 5 matches atleast to recoup the energy and avoid injuries

Sorry, but Raya is not cood enough. he made 7 mistakes that led to goals this season and over 10 total in all competitions. That's terrible for a keeper who has only faced 68 shots all season. Especially with this defense, he has in front of him. several of the goals that were scored against him from mistakes were from his poor positional play where he is too far out of his goal . the chelswa one will ultimately cost us the
league as we did enough to win that game but got a draw instead. those goals would not have been scored on Ramsdale because he stays closer to his net, an average of I believe 3 yards closer.
at least 3 times he made a mistake trying to get to a cross with the wost one being against Spurs where instead of pushing the ball back behind the goal line he put it back into the middle of the box for a goal. His poor communication with his CBs has also cost us at least 2 goals
Because of this mistake, we drew against Spurs instead of winning, and it will cost us the title. thats 2 errors in 2 games that have killed our title hopes , he has coughed the ball up at least 10:14 3 times with his passing with at least 2 finishing in the back of our net.
No where near good enough for our club and not worth the 30 mil we are about to spend on him as the difference between the 2 keepers is not big enough And like last summer we have more pressing needs.
He may be better with the ball at his feet but his overall passing is not much better than Ramsdales , This ability has its uses but it is not a been a big difference maker in our over all offencive play, the biggest difference for us this season has been our relentless press and our high back line which turns the ball over much higher up the pitch. because of the I have never seen an Arsenal keeper with less to do in a seasn as Raya in my 47 years of supporting the Arsenals. For me, Raya is to mistake pron . Hell, he even let a cross go right through his hands at Man U on Sunday.
Edit: Your not doing your self any favors by comparing Ramsdale last season to Raya this season. Ramsdale face over 135 shots. Iwatch a video of Ramsdales 22/23xseason that featured 35 saves, everyone of them was a big save, that is how poor our defencive play was last season especially when we lost the spine of the defence in Saliba and Partey to injury for most of the second half of the season. Raya's cross catching stats are padded by the fact that Saliba Gabriel and White don't let much traffic into the box. Most of his cross catches are with either no one or one attacker around him.
Raya would have got run over last season with the likes of Holding filling in for Saliba. Then therecis our press which keeps the ball much further up the pitch which Ramsdale didn't have or the slow build up play we have used for more than half the games we have played so far. It dents the ball to our opponents.
Had Raya faced the same preasure as Ramsdale this season he would have probably committed 15 to 18 errors and god knows how many of those 35 big chances would have beaten Raya, he's not as good a shot stopper as Ramsdale.
With everything taken into account it is Raya with 2 huge mistakes against Spurs and Chelsea that will have cost us the title if City don't slip up. We did enough to win those games but we didn't. We didn't do enough to win any of the games we lost to Villa, Fuham West Ham and New Castle.

A lot of what you have mentioned are not mistakes. Standing too far out is good, we want that from our keeper. Because it prevents a lot of 1v1 situations as we play such a high line. The occasional lob is inevitable, if it is a good lob then let it be a goal.

@thierryhenry674 That non mistake as you called it cost us a title. It's a mistake as he was out of position. As a keeper your #1 job is stop that everything else come after that. That's the way David Seamen saw it and as a former Hockey Keeper I agree. The risk reward is to high as I said. Raya cost us 7 goals through his mistakes . That nearly 1/ 3 of our goals against.

No it doesn’t cost us the title. It enable us to score in games we would not have won.
Even Neuer, TerStegen and Ederson would make mistakes. Modern keepers are expected to make mistakes. We want them to make mistakes. Because these mistakes means we are taking risks to gain massive rewards in the build up play. Allowing us to score a lot more and concede a lot less across the season.
