I love rides where at the end you can't believe it is over and you are both excited but a little bit sad at the same time. Definitely bittersweet. So, so happy the two of you were able to experience it together. Truly, that was the best part.
Great Video.... If you are looking for a mellow ride with only one big hill and able to do it on a Gravel Bike, you should try Big Sycamore Canyon Trail. It goes from Newberry Park all the way down to the Pacific Ocean. You could start from the Pacific Ocean and go uphill first, or start in Newberry park and go downhill first, up to you. Part of the way is concrete and the rest a gravel road. Only a few difficult parts where streams have crossed the road. There is some soft sand and gravel and conditions that may be a bit much for thinner tired bikes. But, I have seen plenty of gravel bikes on this route. There are bathrooms and water at both ends, and one 1/2 way. Only one difficult hill, but based on what you have already done in California, should be no problem for you. Suggest you do it during the week, it is popular/crowded on the weekends. Large parking lot in Newberry Park with restrooms. Great scenery!!!! Trails off of the main trail are more suitable for MTB, would not try on thinner tire bikes.
I appreciated your message about not waiting to do your bucket list items. I gotta get back to the mountains soon. It's great having a nice steady climb where you can settle into a rhythm.
Dude, My back yard! Who knew GMR was a bucket list ride? I gotta say, I don't ride casual gravel, I mountainbike. But for whatever reason, in-between my hardcore mountainbike videos, I love watching your "just enjoying the journey" videos. Keep up the good work! BTW, I noticed that you might be a bit of a watch collector too?...
Started riding GMR in the early 1980's - it was pretty undiscovered back then. Loved every ride. Have moved to No. California and don't get down to So Cal anymore. Your video brought back really good.memories, thanks for posting.
Thank you for posting this ride. I had never heard of it. So, after watching the video I headed to Glendora and rode to Mt. Baldy. It was absolutely beautiful. No cars for miles was exactly what I needed.
Oregon Outback. I was new to bikepacking and a friend called and asked if I wanted to join him for a spin through Oregon. What a treat it was! Ready for the next adventure! Good to see you both out riding.
GMR is such a great ride! I'm glad you were able to check it off your list. Being able to ride it without cars and with clear winter skies? Perfect conditions.
I do GMR and GRR to Cow Saddle (just before the drop into Baldy Village) several times every spring - perfect training for passes in Colorado I do every summer.
Oh hey, this is my backyard. I live at the base of GMR. I'm glad you were able to partake in it. Also, there's a fun single track climb called the Monroe Truck Trail that starts at the first hairpin turn on GMR. It's fun up or down.
GMR is a great ride, haven’t done it in years. Time to go back! And making it a loop taking the ridge road all the way to Baldy Village, with a bonus climb to the ski lifts, is an epic ride. The Tour of California did it more than once I think.
So jealous !!!!!!!!!!!!! a great share . An incredible ride, no cars, beautiful view oh ya ................NO TRAFFIC ..A dream ride enjoy the rest of your day and year ...stay safe
It always great when a ride lives up to the hype. When you put off something for a year, you're just a year older and in worse condition. Might as well check it off othe list now👍 Great episode you guy seem to be having a great time. 2 days ago in Montana we had about 12" of snow. Not much riding going on.
That looks like a little slice of velo heaven. Tomorrow's high in Chicago burbs is forecast at 12F. You don't know how lucky you are (or maybe you do, lol).
Great video and looks like amazing ride. LOVE your idea of a "Biket List" and Do It Now attitude. Tomorrow is never guaranteed :) Any suggestions on your top Go-To snacks and hydration?
What bars are you rocking in there? I got my ritchey ascent and i wanted a wide flared drop bar to rock a bar end shifter with, was looking for some suggestions.
Russ and Laura, another great video. I ride GMR regularly on my Cutthroat. Great ride always! Not many gravel bikes are up there. You didn't mention the downhill. I get pretty chilly this time of year coming down. Was it tolerable for you Montanans?😂
Great route! Especially when the roads closed, as there’s a lot of motogp and fast and furious types otherwise. Worth heading up to the ski lifts at some point IMO
Great video; just have on question (concern). you have made your dislike of lycra clothing quite clear and with shirts I can see the alterative; but how you do you keep your butt from getting sore on longer rides; do you wear Lycra underneath your pants? maybe this could even be a subject for a new video?
I live in South Orange County and have been wanting to make the trip up there to ride this. Will have to do it now thanks for this great video! Which handlebar bag are you using?
I did this ride yesterday for the 1st time and this video doesn’t do the difficulty justice. It’s basically a corkscrew for the first 7 miles and then it hugs several satellite peaks for the last 3. You can never tell for how long you’re on any of the corkscrew bc you can’t see more than 100’ in front of you. This also makes the descent absolutely atrocious bc you’re constantly braking bc of the tight curves. I’m glad I did it but I’ll never do it again.
@@PathLessPedaledTV That’s great! I’m about 80 south of there and I’m going to ride it tomorrow. I’d never heard of it before. It’s not typically the kind of ride I would do, but I can’t pass it up since the road is closed. My rigid steel 29er is the closest bike I have that’s suited for a road ride like this. So I’ll add a few more psi grind up it on 29” x 2.6” tires.
@@PathLessPedaledTV I just did this ride today for the first time today, Saturday January 15 and it did not disappoint. It was amazing, 10 out of 10 and I’ll definitely be doing it again as long as the gate is closed.

GMR to GRR to Baldy Village was one of my favorite rides in the area. So picturesque. Once I rode to Baldy Ski Lifts. Once was enough.
I appreciated your message about not waiting to do your bucket list items. I gotta get back to the mountains soon. It's great having a nice steady climb where you can settle into a rhythm.

Envy, envy, envy!!! Yaay for Russ and Laura, on the roads again!!!
If you do this again reward yourself with a trip to DonutMan. Especially if during strawberry season.
Loved the 'crushing your head Kids in the Hall' reference!! LOL😍
Ha. I was wondering if anyone would get that.
Thank you for posting this ride. I had never heard of it. So, after watching the video I headed to Glendora and rode to Mt. Baldy. It was absolutely beautiful. No cars for miles was exactly what I needed.
You inspired me to go ride this for the first time. I just did. GMR to Baldy Village and back. It was fricken awesome!!!!!
Oregon Outback. I was new to bikepacking and a friend called and asked if I wanted to join him for a spin through Oregon. What a treat it was! Ready for the next adventure! Good to see you both out riding.
Gmr to grr to baldy village and back is my favorite route in the San Gabriel’s. It’s so good
Sun and not too hot! Great choice of day to ride! Very pretty.
GMR is such a great ride! I'm glad you were able to check it off your list. Being able to ride it without cars and with clear winter skies? Perfect conditions.
Love the So Cal rides the 360 camera the jazz fusion!

Closed road = gem
Thanks for the sunny ride to watch with the snow on the ground and rain in the air here on the east coast!
You guys have to go to Bar Harbor Maine and do Cadillac Mtn and Acadia National Park
Yeah. They would love Acadia's gravel carriage trails.

Great video of a great ride (not race) with beautiful scenery and snacks. Also so nice to see both of you riding together again.
Looks like you guys are having an incredible time. Laura (and you) both looked really happy at the end of this one. :)
One of my fav! Glad you check it off the list.
Awesome, you guys! Great to see you out enjoying yourselves…in the sun, no less!
I have always been tempted to ride the Ridge Route, but this might be a better alternative.
Thanks for showing us.
GMR>GRR combo is amazing, but I dream of the next time I'll be able to ride Old Ridge Route again.
That ride looked great fun. Great ride. Great company. Sharing always makes it better!!
As I look out the window at cold, ice, and rain... I appreciate this ride even more. Added to the bucket list! Thanks for taking us along.
I'm happy you two got a great ride in a sweet place. That looks awesome.
Thanks for sharing the ride!

Gmr w/ epic conditions plus zero traffic...so perfect.

Very nice I used to do this ride and bomb down Monroe truck trail. Bringing back many memories.
Wow, supernice. Comparatively, my cafe&croissant ride yesterday was the loop path to Marana. Good on yas
Great to see both you out there, just enjoying the ride and the views. !!!
Great to see you guys out and about again 👍🏽❤️
Gotta check this one out!bringing the good times,Go Laura!!🤗
Love all these SoCal rides. I’m going to put them all on the todo list.
Gravel Casual... I like that! :)
With all the images of mountains you kept pointing out I though for sure you were going to do some watercolor paints.🙃😉
This is definitely on my bucket list as well! Good job guys!
Looks like a great ride, glad you scratched it off the list, up on top was beautiful.
Those 360 degree spins with the camera on the ridge looked so sweet
Great video, thank you really enjoyed it from the middle of summer in Australia.
That looks like a little slice of velo heaven. Tomorrow's high in Chicago burbs is forecast at 12F. You don't know how lucky you are (or maybe you do, lol).
Definitely the dream type of ride, and without cars! Amazing! Where did you guys park?
What views! 💚😲Adding this to the Bike-It List. As the say in the Michelin, definitely worth the detour. Thanks PLP.
Gmr is great, there are some off shoots for some gravel grinding
Great video and looks like amazing ride. LOVE your idea of a "Biket List" and Do It Now attitude. Tomorrow is never guaranteed :) Any suggestions on your top Go-To snacks and hydration?
Beautiful views on that ridge ride! Also, I really like the music you chose for the descent.
Great vlog! Heard so much about GMR but never done it either. Now, I wanna get out to ride it asap! Looks incredible
Pretty epic if you can do it car free!
@@PathLessPedaledTV Looks like it'll be closed for a while for repairs (darin read something online about it), putting this one on the calendar!
will you do the gravel caves near there next time you are in the area?
Great ride. Great message. Thanks guys!
Totally epic ride
What bars are you rocking in there? I got my ritchey ascent and i wanted a wide flared drop bar to rock a bar end shifter with, was looking for some suggestions.
It's good to see you in good health this year!
What an amazing ride! The more urgent matter is, have you met up with Ryan and Darin???

I understand that Yellowstone has a weekend in the spring where the park is open only to cycling. Have you ever done that or plan to?? Great ride
Anywhere in SoCal without drivers is a win!
Grew up over there and use to explore the area
Damn glad to see Laura back on the bike! ❤️
great stuff, would love to ride it, thanks guys
AWESOME DID GMR AND THE BACK SIDE OF GMR WE CLIMB 5K OF CLIMBING 🙌🙌🙌👌👌👌🚲🚲🚲 LOVE IT THERE.. BUT YES WHEN ITS OPEN TO TRAFFIC U MUST VERY CAREFUL..
Great route! Especially when the roads closed, as there’s a lot of motogp and fast and furious types otherwise. Worth heading up to the ski lifts at some point IMO
You can feel the love…❤️
Great Video.. better Views.. definitely adding this to my Bike “Bucket” List.. Thanks.. Now is a Great Theme.. do it later.. might never happen..
You went for a ride just to enjoy it and not to improve for some future ride? Love it.

Enjoy your videos! Curious where you stay while in So cal. I assume not in hotels, but also not staying in your converted van for a month?
You’re in my hood! I actually haven’t done gmr tho 😮
Shocking you made
It without lycra ;)
Usually tons of Ferraris, BMWs and ninja motorcycles
Wow!
Them called Rolling Hills for a reason... "Someday leads to a town called Nowhere"... Jim Rohn

When is Phil Gaimon going to show up in one of your videos now that you're in LA?
Nice!
GMR without cars, what a dream!
Bikeitlist did you just coin that?
Gotta love roads without cars!
On anything other than a road bike, you gotta skip the pavement and ride the dirt trails.
Does anyone local know if GMR is still closed to vehicles or has it opened back up?
Still closed.

Why are you fawning over snow capped mountains? Don’t you live in Montana?
Because it’s unusual to see in SoCal. 🤷🏽♂️ also because we maintain a childlike sense of wonder.
@@PathLessPedaledTV sorry if that was snarky. I didn’t mean for it to be. I get it. Southern California isn’t usually recognized for its mountains.
Bikes are for the rich now. Or I’d be in the road already.
