Paisley and Fagan were just absolute gents. Shame he never won the fa cup as a manager - surely the greatest of them all? This is from an Evertonian!

Good goal, but you could tell by Alex Stepney's reaction that he knew he should have done slightly better!

The FA Cup final in the mid to late 1970s - always sunny and didn't the pitch look immaculate. It really was a special day. Shame the competition has been so devalued.

Particularly by Manchester United and Alex Ferguson in the early millenium, and not forgetting that the F.A.Cup was the one that saved him, when you all wanted him sacked!

Glen Cansdale how did Alex Ferguson devalue it when he won it 5 times. It’s midtable teams that devalue it, you’re just a Manchester United hater

@@applycontext9161 Does the year 2000 and an inaugral tournament in Brazil (that never took part again), ring any bells? Why did'nt Fergie let the reserves play in the F.A Cup, like he had done for years previously in the League Cup?? I remember when Man Utd got to the 1958 final against Bolton, after the air disaster with basically a reserve team. They were a classier club then, but carried on partly to uphold the integrity of the competition. A lot more people became Manchester United "dislikers" during Fergusons reign, that I had not previously seen under the likes of Tommy Doc and Ron Atkinson......and I don't particularly believe that, that was because Man Utd were more successful!

    • @applycontext9161

Glen Cansdale it was he won the competition 5 times. I also advise you to do your research, Alex Ferguson didn’t want to play his team because he was participating for the club World Cup. It was even the FA who adviced him to do it to help England, for their appeal to host the next euros or World Cup (I’m not sure). At the end of the day the truth is that Ferguson won the fa cup 5 times so you can’t say he disrespected the competition. Manchester United Gained a lot of haters because of their success under fergie

First final I know I watched. I was 7 at the time. First United kit I remember having was the white away top with the black stripe and black shorts. Pretty sure I got the entire kit that first time.
I miss being a football mad kid.

Glad it hit Greenoff because Lou Macari was a wanker. He tried to claim the goal, but I think his piss poor shot was missing before it took the deflection. Jimmy Greenoff was an excellent player who should have been capped by England!

@@redflag8970 - The 79 final! Ugh! I remember that day well. I was staying over my uncle's that weekend. With about 10 minutes left I'd given up hope so went outside to kick the ball against a goal we'd made out of chicken wire. He then comes to the door and calls me over to say United had scored. I then went back outside. He calls me again! United had equalised! So I decided to watch the rest of it ... probably jinxed it!!

Clive Thomas did it twice when a corner was on its way into the box and a goal was scored but disallowed. Derby v Man City 77 chalked off an equaliser for Man City, then in 78 at the World Cup in Argentina, can’t recall the game but it was Brazil denied that time.
