Hi Iby, awesome video and many thanks for sharing. 5th generation farmer is NO JOKE. One wonders, is it possible to mechanize Ugu farming...can't seem to think how it could work in practice...what are your thoughts? Thanks
Aha! The Ugu plant is not very machine friendly like a lot of other garden crops or even staples like Yam. The best time to mechanize the process is when planting. Spraying also could be mechanised. But because it is a climbing plant, Staking and Harvesting will be too messy that's why its cultivated in small plot or acre sizes and harvested manually as a Garden Vegetable!
@@ibyabu This is interesting to know. Considering how much Ugu we eat as a nation, it would be great to mechanize the production of Ugu(at least during the planting phase). In terms of storage, is there a best way to preserve the harvest and what's the maximum shelf life one can get once harvested?
Very interesting video. But why didn't you stake when they're still young. Can I get some seeds or pods to buy and where is your location? I have 8 plots of land at itaoluwo ikorodu already and farming yams, maize, ewedu etc. I want to dedicate 2plots wholly for ugu. Thanks.
I love this!!! Would you be nice enough to tutor me on the procedures? I am in my early 20s and would love to begin Ugu farming. I have little knowledge though. Thank you
Hello Ubong! Oh Wow! Thank you for watching. It's great that you want to venture into the Agric-business fully in your 20s.👍🏾 That's very good. What state do you live in! So I will see if I can link you up with a Farmer near you so you can understudy them and take it further from there.
Hello! Thank you for watching! Thinking of Abuja and wondering if i can link you up with a small holder farmer who can point you in the right direction. 🤔 I think it might just be best to meet A vegetable seller at the closest market to you and ask. Sometimes, the Mamas are Farmers themselves and they can help you get started easier. I hope this helps you reach your goal.
this is amazing. i am starting organic tropical gardening in a cold climate & ugu is one of the plants i'll be trying. Can you share the organic method you use to get rid of the grasshoppers. i had some unpleasant experience with pest last year & would like to be better prepared this time. Does it really take 2 years for the pods to form? OMG, I don't have that length of grow time.
Oh! You'll most likely need a greenhouse to do this there... They do pretty well like the pumpkin family but you need to avoid them freezing. It will be do interesting to watch you do that. 🤞🏾😁 Organic Grasshopper battles, I use a mix. 1:Blended deseeded Pepper mix. 2: Our local black soap 3: Neem Oil Its all mixed, sampled and sprayed. Its an annoying process cos you go leaf and sometimes stalk by stalk. But, i think you might get store bought organic mixes in your gardening store near you. 👍🏾
@@ibyabu thanks for sharing. I started and they are finally taking off with the weather getting warmer. I should be putting up trellis sometime this week.
@@truenorthtropical Impressive! So great to hear that. I wish you all the best. 😁🤞🏾Fingers crossed, you will soon have more than enough of the green leafy veggies on your Table and on sale in your neighbourhood Farmers' Market from your Garden.

Great. Find the Land first. Then find your sales outlet, develop a relationship with them then book them to supply them before you even start. 😊🙏🏾 Best of Luck.
Hello! So sorry i am replying so late as the rains have started. Life happens! First, you will not be able to get the seeds at once from one source unless you are extremely lucky as they will just not be available in one specific location. Onyingbo market is the best place to start if you are in Lagos. The Abeokuta road from Sagamu Exchange also has a settlement with farmers who will sell to you in pods so you will have to deseed the giant pods yourself. 🙏🏾 Hope this helps.
@@jazzsprings Oops! So sorry to be getting back to you on your question now... No, You won't be able to get the seeds for Utazi, Oha, Uziza from the Sagamu axis only Ugu Pods. It will be best at Onyingbo. The Vegetable Market or You can also contact "OpeFarms" i believe they might be able to link you to seeds.🤞🏾
Thank you so much for watching! 🙏🏾So sorry. I don't think it will be possible for Chats or Private calls as i try to stay away from any commitments at this time. Hopefully soon, i would get back to you on this.🤞🏾
Thank you very much for the video. I think I got a clearer explanation from you. Please, how do you sell to buyers? Do you harvest and weigh in Kg for them or ask them to harvest certain area by themselves at certain charges? Thank you!
So sorry i am just getting back to you on this... Ok. First, I find Village Markets that are willing to accept supplies so before i harvest, they already are taken then i deliver to them. For the "high end" shops i sell off in bunches. I only sell off on the Farm when i still have excess vegetables and i won't make too big a loss and it is usually to a market trader near the farm.
Hahahaha... I am definitely NOT responsible for your "crappy" behaviour! Go find something better to do with your time my friend and stop watching crap as you called it. ✌🏾 Ciao!
