We got a foot of wet heavy snow this weekend and it finished off my worn out 35+ year old garden tractor mounted snow blower. I'm now trying to convince my wife that a compact tractor and snow pusher is an appropriate replacement. Wish me luck! 😃
snowblower is still probably going to be your best bet depending on how much snow you get in your area. If you are wanting to upgrade, take a look at a compact cab tractor with a front mount snowblower and a rear mounted blade, best of both worlds. Snow pushers make sense for parking lots, I wouldn't want to deal with the piles of snow and running out of room to push it after each storm in our climate with significant snowfall. You would need a huge, heavy tractor with chains to push a foot of heavy wet snow with one of these pushers. Compact tractors just don't have the weight behind them for anything more than a few inches at a time.
We got 5" of snow last week. Used my new tractor for the first time plowing. Have been using an ATV which takes forever. Using the tractor I got done too fast so I ended up plowing the neighborhood and some driveways just to have seat time.
Hi from the Pacific Northwest! So I looked out the window, and my yard, and the street were covered with snow. I made a cup of coffee and turned on my computer, and watched your vid. Looks like it's that time of year for all of us. Thanks for posting.
I like snow pushers used several over the years, economical way to do things. Waiting to see how my skidsteers do with a power broom and also a Muskox snowblower this season to try something new. Been doing snow removal In Wi for 40+ years, if your in a heated cab, it's actually fun!
That snow pusher works really nicely. I thought the curved top would roll the snow over the top, but it must have been too wet and heavy. Maybe not the best snow to blow.
Hey Courtney / Chris - ive searched but haven't found a video yet on lubricant for snow pushers. TTwT mentioned doing one, but haven't found it. I know it's more of a Fall type of thing.. but it would be interesting to see some comparisons between what I read online. Pam cooking spray, to canola oil, to graphite powder (I use these on my garage door seals, doesn't freeze) to old motor oil. Thanks for the content!
Hey Adam, I did a application in this video. Can't find the follow up video right now, but I didn't think any of them were worth it. However, I'm going to try something again on the blower. I hate when the chute repeatedly clogs. th-cam.com/video/7JDxDa-biCI/w-d-xo.html
@@GoodWorksTractors yeah, the chute on the snowblower gets pretty nasty with heavy-wet snow up here. I'm going to try the dupont snow+ice product as it's available locally.. worth a try at least. Not sure if any were worth it. Really appreciate the response!
I was plowing and blowing snow nearly every day from the first week of November to the first day of winter. Since then, nothing. The last time I used it was for hard compacted drifts of old snow that the overnight high winds piled up. It was like plowing and blowing sand.
Question; What are your thoughts on putting a spreader on the 3 point and throwing some salt or snow melting pellets down while you push snow? Have a blessed day Courtney and family!
Using a PTO broadcast spreader would work but the only down fall would be the are designed to throw material out far for maximum coverage but with a driveway you only need like 10ft of coverage so you would need to idle along to slow down the rpm on the spreader so your not salting the grass. May even need to install some deflectors to aim the material down tword the ground. Now personally I would never spread salt with my tractor as it rusts everything it touches, now you could spread sand or if you have a gravel drive you could use the smallest stone chips you can get that way you can have traction with the rust factor
Just curious - do you have rear wheel spacers installed on this M4D-071? Why or why not, for added stability? If you’ve already addressed this in a video I apologize for asking - but I’ve not seen it?
I got snowed in as a kid at a friends house in the mountains. I thought I was getting a day off school. The dad said no problem I have a tractor. Took us to his barn and he had a tractor about the size in this video. The only time I was disappointed in knowing someone with a tractor.
Have you ever done a video of a PTO mounted generator?? I'm just holding out for a Summit cab tractor and have been considering the possibility for a pto driven generator
We just got about 7-8" of snow. Have a walk behind snow blower for now, took 2 of us about 4 hrs to clear the driveway and parking area's and pathways to the animals. Using my 1025R with bucket, slow going, and the walk behind blower. This item is defiantly on the list for next winter, we have a wide area we have to clear so our hay guy can back down the driveway and get his skid steer off the trailer to unload the large bales. I think the snow pusher would work very well for this large area, where as a plough I would have to keep pushing it over. Driveway is a rock/ findings mix that is solid very few loose stones, then turns to grass. Would the UHMW edge work on that as a metal edge might rip it up?
I don't think UHMW will work as well as steel, but it is a pretty durable material. If just stone/gravel, then stick with steel edges and runners to be safe.
Do you find that your snow pusher picks up much of your gravel over by your barn? I always try to push snow from my gravel areas to a spot that's still in the gravel to avoid raking gravel out of the grass when the snow melts.
Cool drone intro Chris 👍🏻. That Kubota is a nice looking tractor with the 8’ HLA snow pusher Courtney 👍🏻, I’m getting ready to go out and clear the 3” we also got but no cab 😢 and it’s -25° C -13° F with the wind chill🥶🤣😎🇨🇦🙋🏼♂️👍🏻
It's hard to beat a pusher for straight power and ease of use. Last one I used (before retirement), had adjustable wings so you could also use it to pull snow away. At 12 feet wide on a front end loader it moved a lot of snow.
"That tractor has too much power."...said no one ever. Great video Courtney! Love that snow pusher! Spray some soap bubbles around the bead on both sides of that troublesome tire. I had leaks on both my fronts at the bead because the rubber tits left from the molding process were pinched between the bead and rim causing a leak path. The dealer tubed the fronts n/c and took care of the problem.
I'm in the market for a compact tractor. It will be used to plow my 800 asphalt driveway in winter. I also have a parking area. Chris here. The only problem the snow presented was getting on the camera lens at times. If the footage ever looks little faded or foggy, it's snow on the lens. Same can be said for rain, but I find that happens more with snow than rain. Then it's just a matter of wind, and that can come at any time, and that makes it difficult to get steady shots.
