Im from sout india and Rambutan is pretty common here and if you're trying to grow em from their seeds its gonna take 6-8 years for em to fruit + there are male and female plants so male plants don't fruit they just flower and then falls off, so it would be better buying a grafted plant

Little tip if its nice and ripe. Pinch the skin on the sides away from the stem and. Get a decent grip not too tight. When you feel a little slack inside twist and pull while pinching.
I am just lazy and prefer not to use a knife, and cleaning it after use.

Actually it's Rambutan like saying Rakuten that sounds like ur sayin' "Rack Coo Ten" but, w/ Rambutan it sounds like saying, "Ram Boo Tuhn". & It's actually a Malaysian fruit. In Mandarin, Chinese it's called "Rambutan { 红毛丹 } ( Hóngmáodān )".
Here is a "Quick "Did U Know?" Fact":
Did you know that, Rambutan is known as an exotic fruit native to Asia. In Malaysia and Thailand, Rambutan is industrially produced for juices, jams, marmalade, jellies, etc.
Now, did u know that, the Malayan fruit Rambuten is closely related to the lychee but, the differences b'tween "Rambutan" and "Lychee" are primarily visual: Outer skin: While both fruits have bumpy pinkish-red skin, Rambutan also has flexible, electric orange and green hairs, while Lychee does not. Another name for "Rambuten" is "Nephelium lappaceum".
I would like to share w/ u that, oftentimes people w/ diabetes b'lieve that the Rambuten fruit's too sweet to b included into their diet but, actually the fruits like Rambutan, offer various health benefits & relatively low sugar counts, especially when it's compared to other sweets or processed foods & May Rambuten protect against those w/ Diabetes? Yes! Actually, Rambutan may even increase insulin sensitivity & reduce fasting blood sugar levels & insulin resistance.
& Lastly, Did u know that, eating Rambutan containing phosphorus which, will help remove unwanted waste from ur kidneys. It also, plays an important role in the development, repair, rejuvenation & maintenance of tissues & body cells. Another ingredient, in the fruit's calcium, which gives one healthy & strong bones & teeth.
~ i hope these simple but, abit long facts, actually helped u & awnsered some, most &/or all, of ur questions that some or most of u, may have had!

So glad I got to see this! I have just tried rambutan for the first time recently and was wondering what to do with the seeds, and if they would do well here outdoors in the ground. Guess they'll stay in pots. The potting mix I use is potting soil/peat/vermiculite/sand/manure. I've just received more rambutan and a couple of mangosteens! Now I'm gonna start sprouting those seeds! I still have the dragon fuit seeds but haven't started them yet, I got distracted with a moringa tree I got off of facebook marketplace. Then I found some at HEB for only $7! They had neem trees as well, so I got 2 of those. Oh and they had malabar spinach, so I got some of that and some really cool peppers I'd never seen before-yellow little beak, pretty in purple & one called fish. That fish pepper is one really cool plant. The leaves are variegated white and green, and the peppers go through several color changes, also striped, before ripe. I'd love send you some seeds if you'd like.

I had another great find at HEB Plus! I popped in to get something, and usually park and enter through the garden center. They were putting in a new display of fruit trees. $25 for 6'-7' tall apple, peach, nectarine and pear trees! I've already got 2 Asian pears so, I had to get a peach, nectarine and apple! If you have an HEB Plus nearby, check them out, I've found plants there that aren't anywhere else in my area and I live close to Home Depot, Lowe's, 2 Walmarts and a couple of nurseries.

You can't make this stuff up! I just scored a Moro blood orange and a Seto Satsuma mandarine, both @ 5' tall from that same HEB for $25! After a bit of research and talking to people about it, I don't want to wait until spring, I think planting then now would work if I provide adequate protection during the winter. I'm anxious to get them acclimated as soon as possible and I think if I build a box around each one for the winter, that would speed things up-even if it has to be done again next year. The real dilemna is the soil here is terrible, all clay. I've read that it's best to use your native soil and just mulch around it with leaves and such. I've been thinking about using the Miracle grow soil for outdoor use mixed with composted manure, peat and sand. What do you think about all this?

I'm sorry to say but most rambutan that you buy will not sprout true. Most rambutan fruit that is bought, comes from trees that are cuttings that has been grafted on a root stock. Most likely the fruit from those seeds will be green with red hairs and taste not so sweet and more sour with a bit of vegetable taste. It may work out for you and I wish you good luck. It will take you 3-5 years to see the first fruits and another 3-5 years to be fully productive.
My paternal grandfather(lives at grassy marshland) has a rambutan tree that is quite young(most likely grown from seeds). The fruits never ripen to a deep red, just green and red splotches with red hairs.
My maternal grandfather(lives in mountainous deep rainforest) has wild rambutan that fruits reds and yellows but the seeds from these trees aren't viable.

Rebecca James there was an update Instagram shortly after this video instagram.com/p/Bn9STXPABt2/?igshid=16m3pg81wg71e
But long term update is they ended up not surviving. They were growing great, but could not replicate the conditions they needed in my climate (too hot and dry) . Rambutan are notoriously hard to grow in containers so i knee it was a uphill battle but that’s all part of the adventure!

You can open it by just pressing it with both of your hands. Eat it when it is bright or dark red, that’s when it is ripe and sweet. If it’s still bright green wait for a few days then it will ripen.

    • @TheMoreYouGrow

I posted the plants on Instagram but wasn’t able to make a devoted video. None made it for me but that was because of my climate. I kept them warm enough but my climate is too arid. This cause their leaves to dry out too fast. If I could have given them more humidity I think they would’ve made it
