I agree 100% with your points. Cairne Bloodhoof is my favorite Horde leader and yes his story arc and that of the Tauren was woefully under-developed. It is sad what Blizzard did. I played WoW from 2006- until right before Legion came out.I love playing him in Warcraft Rumble now.
"Eat it, pointy eared nerds.." love it. Baine doesn't have a fraction of the back bone his father had. And maybe that is why they did it. With Baine they can bend and manipulate the story in their favour and Baine will not oppose it. Where as Cairne, who had the where-with-all to unite the tribes, would not have had it in his character to withstand or uphold the direction the Horde was taken. The Tauren one of if not the oldest race on Azeroth I am so thankful for the video. I am really enjoying your Lore vids
Its unfortunate when the writers pick their favourites and ignore the rest, writing a good story is hard when you aren't willing to progress the other characters. I, up to this date can't fathom what were they thinking with getting rid of Cairne. I always wondered "could there be a logical reason" for them ignoring the Tauren? Well, now I see that mistakes are never logical.
And we should congregate and restore and cherish what was tarnished by blizzard's misshandling of it, especially as time went on. So we can enjoy it as it could've and should've been :)
I main Tauren on the Horde, and Draenei on the Alliance. Not because of the hoofs, but their respect for natural balance and ethics. Both of these races are 2 of the 4 most dismissed and downright abandoned ones in lore importance. Counting with Gnomes and Goblins.
Draenei and goblins got a lot of development at certain points. Dwarves are in a so much worst spot with gnomes, being always put at the second class humans in every story.
These are EXTREMELY interesting. Please keep making them! I would love to see you expand even further. Perhaps taking a look at how the storytelling/music and art style evolved over the years.
Was heartbroken to lose Carine. Excellent character. Wish they had did more with him, or brought him in during Shadowlands(maybe it’s good they didn’t?). It was reading/seeing another pillar of my Horde done away with. Thought it was sorta fair with Bronzebeard gone, but he’s back, Champion! Sad his son isn’t handled better.
Keep up the good work n the vids - Even if i'm not a fan of you disregarding some ingame lore in some vids (BFA i think it was?) - Your vids is clearly high quality and well delivered and really deserves a lot more subs than you're at currently.
May the earthmother guide your ways. (Got 18 Tauren, playing them exclusively since many years and would have left Azeroth years ago without them. Tauren are love, Tauren are life.
Fact tauren cant even with their totems or even halberds(and Cairne who should fight with a massive halberd doesnt have one), have any unique casters(spirit walkers) and their aesthetics got so superbly waterred down with human like gear that drops for everyone or is quest rewards for players even in Vanilla torn most of their aesthetics and uniqueness. If not for their cities and towns it would be pretty much ridden of all that they should be. And then they have them sell and make guns....for the horde which i find most bizzare as it should be goblin's industry and specialty. They are not even as big as they should be given that they are twice as tall as orcs in Warcraft 3 and look more feral and like mythological minotaurs. Having said that i absolutely love the music tauren towns have and overall aesthetic. Tho they shouldnt have lifts, given Thousand needles settlements like Darkcloud pinnacle or Freewind Post have rope briges escalating those massive bluffs, adding to the scale of those locations. Thunder Bluff is neutered by making it a lift that i dont think tauren should be technologicaly inclined to contruct, but then those same way as Undercity lifts were for ease, and in case of Undercity necessity since it has to be so far below to fit under tirisfal map. If they could be more true to their wc3 equivalents, and had good standing with night elves together with the Horde. Done justice to Cairne and maybe even have him be part of easing and addressing tensions with some groups of nightelves who still hate orcs for death of Cenarius probably as part of longer questline that would have players go on quite long chain of quests for both tauren and then night elves involving Tyrande and then druids and Furion. It would be also good way to expose WoW players to story they might not know/be aware of.
The whole Tauren being the ones who kinda specialize in firearms in particular always had me scratching my head. Like, sure, they're the best hunters on all of Kalimdor, but guns? That just does not sit with me. Tauren got the raw deal across the board.
@@TheDanNation I think giving them and trolls some spearthrowing specialty for hunters as their main range. While orcs would have bow specialty nearly matching elves. Most of fantasy tends to lock it as only elven specialty, but given orcs' strength they would be able to shoot really heavy bows with relative ease and that means range and very hard hitting arrows. Lord of the rings actually did give the uruk hai orcs bows, i think elves shouod mostly benefit from expertise and perfected technique and training of archery while orcs from strength, not sure how to differentiate that in stats tho 😅 All tribal races could have bonus to melee combat with spears too, orcs already do have axe specialty, tauren could have higher bonus for polearms/spears halberds and race unique totem weapon that would be rewarded kind of like shaman totems, but it would be an upgradeable weapon. that can be used as a harness if that tauren switches to different weapons and would be customizable with more and more markings and carved animal likeness on it. Underappreciated can probably be applied to most races in WoW, honestly. I would also say underutilized, save for Humans and Orcs that run culturally roughshod over every other races in their respective factions. Also Night Elves, unfortunate though their lot in recent lore be.
The game added so many (allied) races that most races get underappreciated, also after Legion Draeneis have no role on Azeroth they are just there when they should all have returned to Argus their home planet.

Would you be willing to elaborate on why you are so strongly against the idea of Tauren paladins? While it's not shown in game, from what i understand their version of paladin is supposed to be a kind of mid-point between druidism and light worship. If you would rather not get into it I obviously understand and will delete the comment, I just hear you mention you think its very stupid/bad writing a lot and I was curious about your deeper reasoning on it.
I too would like to know... I find the Elune/moon vs sun/earthmother dinamic interesting. Yes, sunwalkers look quite stupid in wow due to no set/race combo available... human paladin sets on taurens or plate in general.
Tauren traditions are very set in, they've survived in the same ways for the last good lord knows how long, and only by the caring eye of the Earthmother and assistance from the Orcs did they manage to secure Mulgore. This kind of lifestyle, where traditions and ways of living are heavily ingrained because they NEEDED them to survive has a tendency to push societies towards being very conservative and resistant to change. That's not a bad thing in this situation, they kept them alive this long, but I would say it's one of the biggest reasons why a sudden HEY NEW RELIGEON POINT OF VIEW LET'S JUST ACCEPT IT! wouldn't be reasonable at all, which is how it's framed in game. Other than that, I really don't like the writing behind the injured Tauren inspired by the Light nonsense, nor do I respect the Dawnchaser Tribes writing either, I left them out of this video for a reason. The idea that World of Warcraft Retail eventually got into that prettymuch anyone can do anything and everyone's the hero really didn't feel right, so some of this is just wanting things to feel a little more grounded and unique. In short: Yes, they're written as a midpoint between Druidic ideals and tenants of the Holy Light, and I think they muddy both and should have never happened, plus other complaints I have about how meaningless race and class choices have become in Retail.
I think Forsaken Paladins wouldve made more sense than Taurens as they can be holy priests and used to be knights, another race could've been orcs as Eitrigg is the Horde representative of the Argent Crusade, he and Tirion go back a long way and Eitrigg should have been the first orc paladin.
Honestly it never made much sense. Druids wield power of sunlight, litteraly, not Holy Light. If you wanted to make fighter druids, then do fighter druids in the lore, not this weird hybridation coming from nowhere. They do not believe in the Holy Light the Earth Mother, which is an embodiement of the "world" as a whole, including shamanism and druidism, that's all. Because at this point we could also have tauren warlocks and mages and say it's the Ear... oh shit, they've done this. The whole problem of this logic is that they twisted the concept of the Earth Mother AND the concept of the priest and paladins to force taurens in them, which was a really bad idea from the beginning. I don't mind the rogue to some extent, because WoW seems to say that the rogue abilities are more of a supernatural thing than just being "stealthy", but all the other classes are really hard to make for a tauren without very, very high tolerance on how you can twist a narrative to fit your ambition of playing a character.
Great question, and while I wouldn't say it's dubious or doubtful in any way, I would describe it as ill conceived and poorly written, based off multiple premises that I felt really unreasonable threading from the books. I'd rather not open that can of holy crap up in the comments, as I have multiple future episodes planned on why I feel, overall, the novels only cause more problems. @@Gabun2010 This is a legit good question, and for the most part it never really is explained. I would speculate that while most arcane magics are very high intensity and in the moment, enchanting is a slow, deliberate, many times delicate process which benefits the Taurens patient and careful nature. We know the Tauren have no arcane inclinations, but that may be more because there are no Tauren magical schools or orders. Even the Forsaken field powerful mages due to the amount of wizards and conjurers that died to the Undead Plague of Lordaeron, they have the solid background in it. Again, just speculation on this, I'm not sure why they decided Thunder Bluff needed enchanting trainers as well, but there they are, happily practicing their arts. Thank you for the question!
