This is exactly what I was looking for! Praise to the algorithm for pushing your channel in my recommends, I'm putting your videos into my worldbuilding playlist. I'm designing two different worlds with subterranean races, with one world having an entire "hollow earth" underground ecosystem (including flooded caves with mindflayer-lich-merfolk who are blind but psychic) and the other being a pre-Genesis geocentric demon world with a small waning red sun, so the light levels go from after-sunset to new moon night. So I've got deep-sea creatures, cave-dwelling species, semi-cave-dwellers, and sighted descendants of surface dwellers who use light sources but are more light-sensitive than their non-depth-specialized brethren in one world, and crepuscular-to-nocturnal species in the other (with my dominant cave-dwellers in the latter world using the unique sight of the helmet-crested gecko (it's the only creature we know that has full-color nocturnal vision), which I ruled means that they see every color as oversaturated and a lot more vivid than our own eyes do, so too much color can deter them).
That sounds really fascinating. You might want to check out my video on two suns and two moons, not that matches your descriptions exactly, but light and tides plays a huge role in words like that and I go into quite a lot of detail about those there. And welcome to my little corner of TH-cam :) I hope you enjoy your stay.
I find underground civilization so fascinating. One of my favorite ones are Pthumerians specifically the House Of Red Sands. A race of arthropod aliens who have four arms, four bioluminescent eyes, and covered in segmented chitin. Their species is divided into numerous Houses with different living ideologies, so the House Of The Red Sands isn't indictive of all Pthumerians. After a cataclysm on their homeworld they left on a colony ship and settled on Mars. After landing on the shield volcano Olympus Mons they built a sanctuary in the lava tubes and refurbished it further. The Red Sanctuary is incredibly large and the Pthumerians needed to make many innovations. 1) Their Pneumanites (sapient automatons that, built in the image of their abandoner god, & produces Pneuma: a substance they need to survive and grow) where destroyed upon landing on Mars. They needed to make more Pneuma and they had no need for an idol any longer so they dismantled the Pneumanites and made gauntlets from them that allows a Pthumerian to make Pneuma individually. 2) For their agriculture they have a fun plant called Aligdane. A tree engineered during their Golden Age specifically for subterranean colonies. Thick branches grow throughout the chasm tunnels, the roots have numerous large leafs, to absorb light refracted from crystals illuminating the tunnels. The branches grow figs engineered to hold enough nutrients to replace omnivorous diets. The sheer number of leaves made the chasm an oxygen rich environment. 3) For water, they have a cave section with a deposit of water connected to the deep oceans of Mars. (some scientists say that Mars oceans aren't completely frozen and the ice floats on the deep water.) The water is treated in purifiers and used for other purposes. 4) For energy the Pthumerians have a "Photonic Converter". With machinery, crystals, and the minor magic ability to make light the Photonic Converter provides energy for the civilization. 5) Clothing and other apparel are made by Weavers, a job that requires the utmost delicacy as a Pthumerian uses their claws and loom to weave threads together. These threads come from many sources the silky innards of the Aligdane branches & the leathery surface of their fungi. They can weave the thin membrane of their eggs into a cloth to swaddle their hatchlings. Hollow Hot can insulate their tunnels, Water Cloth can keep radiation away, ect. 6) Pthumerians can see normally, having blue bioluminescent eyes. They litter the area with crystals that shed light illuminating their chasm. 7) The magic of the Pthumerians is welded by Splicers but compared to other magic disciplines it's weaker than wizardry & works to imbue magic into objects. 60% of the population are Splicers can use their magic to renovate their chasm, magic ceramic jugs that make liquids, imbuing light in gemstones to feed plant life, implanting recorded messages in stones at entry points ect.
Fair point, heat sensitivity could be very useful underground, though be careful. Some tunnels might get so hot that it’s hard to sense anything (I’ve experienced this in mines that stretch deep underground). Although that could be an interesting plot point… The Blind Tunnels could be a great name for very hot underground areas.
Have you considered as a possible source of luminance the Odic force hypothesized by the Baron Karl Ludwig von Reichenbach in the 19th century? According to von Reichenbach, some individuals can in fact perceive this energy as light emanating from certain naturally occurring substances, notably from crystals.
Isn't that essentially a form of magic? As far as I know, Odic Forces are supposed to be a hypothetical vital life force, or well, what George Lucas ripped off for the force?

Your videos are always so thorough and informative!
Thank you :)
thankyou maam 🙏❤️
Very welcome
My friend. What about heat sensing?

@@JustInTimeWorlds Wouldn't the other person just appear as a coolish field as they block out the heat emanating from the background heat?

That is a very interesting thought and would make for an amazing creature. I like the idea of them being the deep ones potentially.

Radiactive rocks could glow too.

Be as blind as a bat, with augmentation of other senses, and a very pallid skin colour.
