    Hey NK, because of this video I bought a little handheld microscope to sharpen my knives. Sharpened a buddies knife from work and he told me that is the sharpest knife he has ever felt! Thanks for the pointer!!! Keep up the awesome videos :)

    They are really useful. But, I never thought about using them to check my stropping. It looks to me like I have over stropped some of my blades. There is always so much to learn. Thanks for the information.

    Under 50 bucks and you can attach a usb microscope to your laptop. 40x to 1000x power. I use it to examine my fountain pen nibs for baby's bottom as well as knife edges.

    Hello. You are a perfectionist. I wouldn't mind if my edges were half that good. Lol. You probably know already but loupe is just the french word for magnifying glass. All the best.

      @NeevesKnives  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah but it sounds so good, and edges dont have to be perfect just sharp

    Kinda old video, but I gotta say...
    Those cheapo 30x and 60x combo loupes really helped me check if my knife tip was rounded or not. At the naked eye and even by feel it felt pointy, but looking at 60x you could see the tip was chipped! I guess by being so thin at there, even a chiped tip can cut.
    Some less than featherlight passes on a strop, going maybe 2 on each side, then checking the tip with the loupe, slowly sneaking up on it helped me get to a pointy tip even at 60x.

    Great stuff! I have a hard time telling the difference between an overstropped edge vs. an edge with remaining burr. Both look like a thin sliver of a line to me.

    I got a 50-100x microscope for 26 dollars. It really helps. I'm trying to get good hair whittling. Managed to pass the test but microscope showed a destroyed edge, probably a foil edge partially broken.
    Sharpening stone images are also quite interesting. Several unexpected findings.

    That was very informative. Definitely need to get one of those to check the edge. Really appreciate the information as to what I would see both good and bad.

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you do see the bad and sometimes it looks good from the naked eye, which is fine, but atleast you can see the problem if theres one

    Very cool video. I have a magnifying lamp but I don't have one of these yet. Good call though. I'll get one.

    I would say kind of new to rod the sharping but I got the work sharp precision adjust system. I 3D printed extra rods for using 3M lapping film and got the jewelers loop. My question is my edge is soooo polished I see zero scratches , it is blindly bright when you look at it with the loop. I guess it is the age old question, I THINK I have a very sharp knife but until I see someone else confirm mine is way sharper than theirs. I guess it is bragging rights like who has the fastest car, hottest girl.....

    Those are really high magnification, to the point they are really very hard to use. I prefer photography loupes which generally run from 4x to 8x. With these you get much greater eye relief (your eye doesn't have to be nearly touching the loupe to focus). I have a 4x Schneider, a 5x Pentax, and 8x Nikon and a 10x Bausch and Lomb which is a jeweler's loupe. These can be pricey, or at least more so than the jeweler's loupes, but are infinitely easier to use and if you happen to be a photographer, so much the better. . The 5x is 2" in diameter and sits next to my sharpening setup.

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah ive personally had many different kinds through the years, not just for knives but for other things like stones exc.. But these are pretty easy to use the one more that the other, maybe not balancing between the camera but just to look through, the one i dont have to hold up to my eye, just a certain distance from the object, but im sure theres many better options especially when trying to film or get a picture

    Hey bud.... let me ask you...if one was to finish up with a Arkansas stone but primarily strop to keep things working daily.. over time the leather is going to polish the scratches out?I mean right that's how my brain is telling me it happens? Thanks for all the sharpening videos...... maybe do another on stropping...

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will definitely bring some scratches out especially close to the tip of the edge, but it would take a lot of stropping to get rid of all the scratches, unless you are doing a stropping progression, meaning starting with a course strop then medium and finishing with a really fine stropping compound

    I love how you put out so much content . Being new to sharpening I can’t get enough . On my edge I have that line because of two different angles ( I just learned from your video) I’m confused about the angle number . If I want to get closer to edge /Apex should the number go lower on angle cube? Ty

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No the angle would be higher, so the higher the angle % the closer to the tip your sharpening, the lower the angle the bigger the bevel will be, and the farther from the tip of the edge you will start to sharpen, your job is to hold that angle until it gets down to the tip of the edge, so the more straight up and down your holding the angle the higher the % and the closer to the tip of edge your sharpening, then the more you lay the knife down at an angle the lower the % and the bigger the bevel you will make. Hopefully that answered your question if not let me know
