Cool video, man, I'm a trailer mechanic for a medium-sized transport company that services the East Coast and occasionally the west. I love trailers, more than a bloke should, but it's always nice to see an old truck getting some love. I had an LS9000 with a 400 Cummins and 18sp RR as a yard truck it wasn't as old as your LNT, though. It was a great old truck. It's still tugging trailers around for the same company, just less loved than when I had it. I've got my eye on a k100 with a 350 Cummins and a 13 speed Road Ranger. I just need to talk with the owner again. So, I might spam your comment section asking for help 😅 I know some stuff but don't know engines like I do the long end.
Hi Jon yes mate they sound great. I just worry about electrolysis with them. They were bad for it. I had a 3070 inter with one in it and I replaced one liner and found after that the next one along was also starting to drip.
I reckon the 903’s were one of the best sounding engines (for a 4 stroke) period and remember them powering a range of trucks along with the myriad Detroits (and UD’s) in tippers to coaches back in the day, I remember fondly going on a few trips with my older brothers father in law down to Orbost in Victoria’s East Gippsland region as a young bloke when he drove for the Manufacturers Bottle Company which was a division of Carlton & United Breweries Ltd. Back in the early 1970’s when he drove the Leyland Mandator collecting crates of empty beer bottles to be taken back to Melbourne to be put thru the bottle washer to be reused when they were nearing the end of their service lives and recall it being a reliable but noisy droning old girl and then he got a new prime mover, an International ACCO 3070 A with the Cummins 903 V8 and what a grouse unit (I thought anyway) with its Road Ranger man it sounded and looked the ducks nuts back back then and handled the loads with absolute ease, great memories indeed!
I remember the days when Lindsay brothers had a fleet of those LNT,s bagging you up at a dollar twenty +, they were putting one over every week to, always liked the 903 its amazing to think that the 903 is over 50 yrs old, they still make them in the states for the military (in tanks) putting out 600 + hp with air to air after cooling and a 750 bhp twin turbo version, shame they dont put them in trucks anymore. keep up the good work steve.
Thanks Ned yes I believe they went well. I think they were only 290 hp in the Louisville. I may be wrong. I was told they were banned in some of the states in the USA because of emissions but again I could be wrong. Hopefully I can get one on the road. That’s big horsepower in the tanks compared to the trucks
@@stevesplacedownunder Another good upload. The natural 903s were 295hp in the LNT 9000s and 320hp in the ACCO 3070s later they were 350hp and called VT350s this was around the Cummins formula period in the early to mid 1980s when Detroit's went silver. I remember Lindsay Bros very well as I live opposite the Bruce highway when I was a kid
Hey Steve, I worked in coal mining for 13 years. Some underground and the rest on the surface. I did about 4 years shunting and loco driving moving the coal from one place to another, the Hunslet locos had 388HP Cummins engines in them that sounded great. One is now in the National Coalmining Museum being renovated. I will try to take some footage of it running next time I go to the museum. If I can arrange with the mate who is doing the work on it, he will fire the old girl up for me. Cheers Steve, take care, Norm in the UK.
Hi Norm that’s great. I would love a job on a loco shunting. It looks like it would be good. We’re they v8 Cummins do you mean mate? That would be good if you can get some footage of the restoration and it running, and let me know. I’d be very interested. Thanks for commenting Norm. Good to talk
@@stevesplacedownunder Hi Steve, I will try to find out. Propably take a little while as I have to speak with the bloke who is doing the work on her. Certainly not V8s. I think in line 6s if I recall correctly. It is 'locked in' at the moment so can't move anywhere, working on trying to get rails laid to be able to demo it but as it is a charity venture, it is always difficult. Will see what I can do. Cheers mate. Norm.
Great video again Steve. The Ford is a great Truck to drive . You should always figure on a short startup video when it's a Cummins, they seem to have no problem firing up. Oh by the way mate those were my beers you found on the seat in that dump truck😃 Cheers!
Gday Neil. Yes mate they always start up easy. I’ve never spent any time in a ford really, apart from the one next to it. I was going down the road to another property getting water from the river and filling my dam when the bush fires where on. It’s the same truck really, just a bit better cab. I have a video coming up, not sure when, of a 250 Cummins, really old one in a cab over transtar. It will be interesting because it would be over 20 years since it started so will see how long it takes. I thought when I opened the door on the dump truck, these are Neil’s bottles, but you weren’t here so I had them. They were lovely
@Steve’s Place Down Under Glad you enjoyed them. Is the rust pretty bad around the cab or is it fixable since that Ford runs good. 20yrs since the next truck had started, probably a 30min video since it will be a Cummins 😀
At least 20 years yes. I’m not a panel beater so to me it’s too much work but the right bloke could save it no doubt. I’d like to get someone capable of fixing rusted cabs because I’d have plenty of jobs here
That old bugger started like all good Cummins should. Mint👌🏻 A cab ride would've been good, cos never in my life will I be getting inside Louis😜 Congratulations too on your subs rising like a reluctant stiffy👍🏻😂
She did start good partner yes. I’m glad the stiffy goes up quicker than the subs😂. I guess I’m at 3000 as we speak so that’s not bad in the few short months it’s been going
@@stevesplacedownunder Well deserved mate.🍻 You make great down to earth videos. Sooo.....do I get a sneak peak at which wagon is next?. Or does it depend on which batteries have enough arse and what cabs have full bottles of motivation in them. Haha
Hi mate yeah they are good trucks. We want to do it up. The cab is to far gone but the rest of the truck is good. I will eventually find one. The one next to it is fairly rust free but that’s complete and I don’t want to pull it apart. It will be another project one day if I ever get the time
@@stevesplacedownunder oh ok mate, yea if the other is complete, you don't want to be pulling it apart, i sure one will turn up, i think i may have seen a old ford like that on the truck sale site only trucks website , from Memory it had a water tank on back, and wasn't that dear
You’re gonna remind me of a neighbour who had a LNT9000 with a V903 - their LNT was a 9 speed and took 20 litres of clean diesel, half a dozen good batteries and a good sniff of Aerostart to get it going
I haven’t really looked to hard mate as there are other jobs before it but I know that he’s done an LTL, which are the same apart from a few small differences. I will put the word out through the club. He’s in our club
Hi Steve n Crew, I see an old blue Flat Nose International (cab over) they and the old Blitz 4x4 were the work horses of country South Australia from fire trucks to carting grains to silos, the other work horse was the Commer Trucks. Cheers Pete.
Yes mate stuff rust’s here terrible. We have a very large coastline and anything along it will rust. Out away from the coast is very hot and dry and stuff is preserved. Depending on the life this truck had will determine it also, what it carted and if it was coastal
My one is only a 237 6 speed. We have a flintstone where I work which has a 4v 350 and a 13 speed fuller. It used to be our main float truck. I did a lot of work in it moving machines when it was being used. Went well
I still don't think I've recovered from listening to an old mechanic doing the overhead gear on one of those with the 903 in it. Turning the air blue does not do his performance justice.

I've always been led to believe the 903 makes an excellent boat anchor
I think they may have been designed for marine and military mate
Thanks mate, first V8 Cummins I've seen running, made an old man happy and keep emailing coming.
Hi mate no problem. There’s plenty more to come. A few being edited now
the 903s sounded great on the road . i watched just to hear it again .
Hi Bill that’s great. They do sound good. The single stack one sounds better then the twin stack one next to it
