Adam, if grew up in Chattanooga. Rock City was always & still is, one of my favorite places to visit in the country. I took my son to the lights festival there when he was a baby. This brought back the sweet memories of that trip. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.
When I was a kid I got taken to a place called Fairy Glen which had illuminated trees and waterfalls with bridges across them. There were illuminated plastic/fibreglass fairies, animals and toadstools. Now when I visit it all looks a bit corny albeit nostalgic. But as a kid it was such a magical experience that it launched me into a lighting career that encompasses theatre, film, TV, ride and theme park costume lighting (including parts of Spectromagic). Sometimes it's easy to underestimate just how much more exciting these places are to kids with fertile imaginations.
My parents took me and my little brother to Rock City at least 6 or seven times when we were young. Seeing the little caves with the story book characters under the black lights brought back that magic feeling that I hadn't experienced in nearly fifty years. Like seeing old friends again.
My grandfather took me here when I was young and it has stuck with me ever since. I must admit, to this day when I hear the nutcracker sweet, I am instantly transported back to this very place in my mind. I am not sure why this place left such a lasting impression, but it has and I just wanted to thank you for uploading this video.

Oh my goodness, this is the most enchanted thing I have seen since I was a little girl going to Winter Wonderland at Cobo Hall. WOW. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. We are taking a trip there one day and this will be one place I will go.

I had to put up those lights for 4 years in a row...and the first year I wasn't even given access to any tools...then when I brought my family and friends and stood in line freezing for an hour, we were turned away!

Yes it is. Remember though that there are many who would love nothing more than to ban Christmas forever in the name of "Tollerance." Every time you see a sign or a TV add that say's Holiday Sale but will not ever say Christmas, that is one of those that is trying to and would gladly take Christmas from all of us. You, me and every Christian must never let that happen. To stop the theft of your culture and religion you must first open your eyes. Merry Christmas Emilly Griffin. May we all have many more.

Did you stop at Ruby Falls Cave while you were there Adam? Back when the the Challenger space shuttle blew up, I was standing in the lobby / waiting room of Ruby Falls, they had a couple TVs tuned to the news and I saw it happen live. we were on our way to FL to visit my grandmother in Ft Lauderdale & went there because I thought caves were so neat.
Adam you should check out the clarion trestle in Clarion county Pennsylvania. It's an abandoned train bridge that's pretty cool, if you're ever back in Pennsylvania, check it out.
Speaking of Rock, I wish you'd go to House on the Rock, where visionary architecture, eclectic collections and incredible stories await you shall you join them, unless you did and I missed it.
***** I agree and perhaps swing up the U.P. and go to Fayette Ghost town, Adam, Midwest is calling;) Oh and don't forgot Little Bohemia where Dillinger's hang out and shoot out. So many cool places to see. We truly are blessed, every one of us has a place near us we think or no is special and if we don't someone sure does.
I sure hope Mcfly. Seriously he needs to come this way. I think a change of scenery will do him good. But I strongly suggest going during warmer months, so much outside stuff to see. The coolest part is this is a state park now so pretty much no cost or very little. You can't believe the things that happened there when it was a boom town. Also when my father was alive we would hike those cliffs there and watch the waves roll in. I love it.
Just a thought during these often troubling times. Isn't it odd that some cultures have holiday customs in which good will, charity, bright festive lights that promote feelings of peace and joy, and then there are those that their customs consist of blood, sacrifice, suffering, hatred, fear, persecution, injustice and rage as the predominant theme. I wholeheartedly reject the latter no matter what or who promotes it as peaceful and a better way. I'm not buying it. This Christmas I will pray that the barbarism and those who either condone, engage in or ignore it as it is sweeping the world will be beaten down permanently. The two philosophy's cannot co-exist.
