      @bushpushersdaughter 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with your thoughts, however, I'm hoping Adam might weigh in. I have three field guides now and have had success with all of them, however, there might be one that Does rule them all. ;) @@jimeko82

    • @chezmoi42

      @@bushpushersdaughter Based on my experience here in France, you'll need a minimum of two, and * sigh * they will need constant updating as they refine all the classifications. If you have a local group, they would be the ones to ask, unless you are in the same area as Adam.

    I tent for many moths a year walking the forests in Great Britain after seeing one of these videos, I spent a whole camping trip "looking for mushrooms" and lichen.
    wow was I surprised, I think I used to walk with blinkers on.
    I printed my photos in the winter on A4 photo paper keeping them in a folder. All 284 of them.
    I showed them to the Queen Elizabeth national forest rangers in Scotland who asked to borrow the folder showing it in the lodge.
    It's amazing what you see when you know it's there.
    Naming them is difficult, your videos are a great help, thanks.

      You may find a lot of the same basic mushrooms in CA, depending on the region, John. I'm in France, and we have a very similar selection of the common mushrooms - like the beefsteak, which we call 'langue de boeuf', or beef tongue. Do you have a mycological or naturalist association nearby? I was lucky enough to fall into one 25 years ago, and it's become a passion for me. Even if you don't have a lot of time to devote to it as a hobby, an occasional organized outing is a good way to learn what's in your area.

    Very informative as always. Through your channel I have learned to safely identify 6 types of mushrooms. I wish I had a local mentor to teach me more, but haven't found one. Foragers are few and far between here, which is a shame, as there are tons of wild edibles. If I had a dollar for every time someone saw me walking in a field or around the woods and offered me a ride because they thought I was stranded, I could take a nice vacation! People think I'm odd for foraging, but since I'm an artist and a rescuer, I'm used to that! I hope one day you are able to come to my area, coastal Mississippi, and make a helpful video on what you find here. Field guides and such are almost non-existent for our region. Northern Mississippi is much better studied, but the actual coast is not. Ah well, thanks for your lucid and learned presentations. I enjoy them enormously.
