This is cool.. Except for the Hermione voice actor. She doesn't sound like Emma Watson at all. :( such a shame considering most Harry Potter fans like me will notice the difference.
Both Harry and Ron have their actual voices, Emma Watson didn't want to have anything to do with Diagon Alley. She's trying to move away from the Harry Potter scene, I don't blame her. She grew up doing that, ya know?
This looks bloody amazing. Universal knocks it out of the park every time. Last time I went was in 2010 when the Harry Potter land had just opened and it totally blew me away! I'd really really love to visit again to see the new Harry Potter stuff! ❤️
oh what the hell! if they couldnt get emma watson to record 10 seconds of dialog for this thing, they could have atleast found a voice that sounds more like her... that would totally take me out of the experience.
You do realize that she was at college when this was done right? I'm a hardcore fan and even I didn't expect her to drop everything for this. Calm down.
first of all, they can record vocals from anywhere. especially if it's only a couple of lines that dont require any real acting. second, as i said, they could have auditioned for a voice that sounds more like her. get off your high horse hun.
I know this is a old video but all the negative comments have me angry. I just got back this weekend from there and this was my favorite part. Even the most diehard potter fans will forgive the absence of Emma and like me totally geek out seeing the red engine pull into the station and boarding a compartment. Mainly i liked that (assuming the wait isnt long usually 10 mins from islands/ 45 from universal) it is a great way to get to the other park without exiting and walking city walk.i think they did an awesome job of form and function and made it one of the most memorable moments from my trip. So grab a butterbeer hop in the que and enjoy the ride!!!
So, the thing is, you sit on a train, and there is loud music playing and people talking? Hop on the Subway anywhere in the world, you get this pretty much for free.
Jeff Kramer Only Disney always has and always will dominate theme parks. Because they know how to do it and they do it best, nobody can nor ever will top them.
Universal has fallen several times the 1st time they got bought out by MCA, Panasonic Matsushita then it was Seagrams then it was the french corp Vivendi then to GE then to the crappy Comcast corp. Lets see how many times Walt Disney has fallen ? 0 how many times has six flags fallen? Once
+piratelover64 When the monorail at Disney world becomes themed, interactive, or even automated, then you'll almost be able to say anything bad about this ride. When there is a line of people extending from the far end of a park, through the ten minutes' walking distance from the park gates to the parking lots just to get a glimpse of a new ride, filling up every inch of space leading up to it, then you'll almost be able to say there is something comparable to the Wizarding World(s) of Harry Potter at Disney World. When Disney manages to fit two full-sized theme parks, four (soon to be five) resorts, a shopping/entertainment area, and the largest movie production studio outside of California into a space the size of Animal Kingdom, and then almost completely transform all of it in four years, then you can make an argument about how Disney knows how to "do" theme parks.
Universal Studios Hollywood sucks i can finish universal studios in about 3-4 hours total USH has over 360 acres of property which is used for filming like if any one cares what movie was shot there or not the people real attractions stand of making the world of Harry Potter they have a made a world of attractions hell with the castles they can easily add least 4 or 5 rides non simulated ask a person about Mickey Mouse they already know ask a person about harry potter "who the hell is that" its sad that Universal has to use another studios trademark in order to improve their theme park
I am thrilled that this is not merely a train connecting the two parks. I kept thinking to myself, "Who would want to take a scenic train through Universal's back lot?"
Maybe someday when the technology is available they can make it to where all the scenes in the window have a sort of 3D perspective. Where you can look down and actually see what's below and all that. That would be brilliant! Still, excited to see this!!!
Am I the only one that hates how the train goes backwards? Even if you don't notice it from inside, i'm sure the sight of the hogwarts express traveling backwards isn't so pleasing to the eye.
I am literally in tears right now. This is amazing. Disney will never beat Universal. Too bad my annual passes blocked out Universal's park and not Islands of Adventure instead. I won't be able to ride it until August!
Actually, it's not a real train. though it's hard to tell. I watched a making of the whole location the other night and they made the train overseas, then shipped it to the park. It was molded into that shape, and then painted and scuffed to look well used. Same for the ride cars.
Devion Wilson You seem to be out for stroll to troll. I was not being a know-it-all, just saying I watched a program about the train's making since, I too, though it was a real one.
Ok, so it's basically watching TV in a window while the train goes forward a few feet then reverses. The dollars spent on (not the greatest) cgi animation could have been done building REAL theming and driven it around a circuit, or even had the bus drive through some kind of 'dark ride' experience. I really think the 'ideas' people took a short cut with this one.
noooo it transports you to islands of adventure much like the disney monorail transports you to another park ,its just harry potter themed......quit your bitching and watch a disney video
While I agree, one of the things that I noticed when they first announced this was that there was little space to begin with between the park. I believe that the designers did the best that they could with the space and resources that were available at the time. However I would like (universal has done this before) to update and expand the ride over time. For example if the resources were available, I would like for the dementour to ENTER the cabin and allow for those who have a wand to be able to fight it off. Otherwise the cast-members can do it. However I still love what they did with the place.
Great pov, in 2 weeks time im going on the official Hogwarts express in great Britain, original name olton hall express from Preston to York its a full working steam engine great thing about it is the official train from the film.
The mock ups are quite good really. The real locomotive that was used as Hogwarts Castle aka: Olton Hall. Will be on display temp' for a year or two at the Studios experience nr London. Which will help it to be restored to mainline condition after it's temp new home.
Asuming the video captures only a fraction of seeing it irl I say Universal has done a great job. Little sad about the original actors not all doing their voice-overs but as a non diehard fan I can overlook that. The only thing I would note: The Kings Cross station needs more patina - it looks too new and clean.
Are there any signs or announcements against taking pictures or videos on the ride? I don't see what safety issues would there be since its enclosed, and its not a fast and rough thrill ride where cameras can go flying, or could get caught in machinery.
The plus side about Universal is that the studio lot is on the campus. Disneyland is strictly a theme park. Although from time to time Disneyland park has commercials shot. At universal , I worked temporarily at Mel's diner and worked at a cart 1 time. I also paid to be a guest. I've also been in the lot entering through the back gate for a movie fitting and a 4 day call on The Kilmore Girls (Extra Inside Joke Which refers to A shoot day for The Gilmore Girls - 7 am To 1am). I Really want to visit the Orlando location.
The mock up steam locomotive they have there is very similar to the real one that was used in the films, a GWR Hall class..... despite the engine being called Hogwarts Castle in the films, which means that the engine should have been a castle class........ but thats just be being pedantic :P Good representation of a steam train though...
That looks like a very nice ride, though I'm disappointed that it appears to not be a true steam engine. The stack doesn't seem to have enough of a draft, nor is there a 'whoof' every quarter turn of the engine's wheels. The steam appears to be a decoration.
We were standing at the back of the line and I introduced myself to this guy named Thomas and I told him my dad's company was based out of London England and my friends parents came back and he told us tell them Thomas sent you.
This is pretty cool. I'm curious, how do they make the Hogwarts Express work the way it does without an engineer or fireman? I mean you can't see anyone driving, the whistle is pretty much audio. Is there something eletrical running the train? Or is it just me?
MrProTechHD You need to open up to new parks. Disney isn't the only place. Universal's prices should be about the same as Disney's, which they are. At least Universal actually has thrill rides. Disney only has a few. If you are going on vacation with teen friends, I'm sure they'd rather go to Universal. Disney is more for families. Universal's prices are just as overpriced as Disney's. But at least with that money Universal adds new things. Disney just keeps that money and hardly adds new rides.
I have to admit if you still go to disney world you either have a family or you like riding kiddie rides considering the last time I went there I was 9.
Its all context. If one didn't know who Harry Potter is, a lot of this is lost. I do have a question -- I get taking the Express to Diagon Alley but when you exit the park, do you need to take the Express Back again ?
While Universal has put a great deal of detail into this new themed section, too many of their attractions are video-based. You can watch TV at home. :(
Some of the characteristics about the train just don't seem to add up, so I am wondering, any idea if that is a true steam engine or a modern hybrid/fake steam engine (hidden diesel, most often)?
I'm pretty sure it's not even powered by the engine, but separate motors, just look when the train backs up into diagon alley, the wheels on the engine don't match up with the train.
to begin with Harry Potter trademark does not even belong to Universal Warner bros is franchising Harry Potter out for a nice fee because Universal does not have any modern characters its a warner bros trademark , The Simpsons ride "Fox" Transformers the ride "Dream Works" Universal Studios lags in Attractions Harry Potter might be a slight boost that's about it
Actually Transformers is Paramount and Hasbro. Also, Disney still uses some other stuff not owned by them or at least not originally, Star Wars, Tower of Terror. That's all I can think of right now though. But Disney World I believe uses more stuff not owned by them than Disneyland.
The tech and creativity for the train animations and projections, the way the doors open if by magic, the charming Hedwig and thestral carriage animatronics, the peppers ghost effect for the platform wall...the "muggle" cast members that stare at you in curious blankness whenever you ask where platform 9 3/4 is...universal beat Disney at its own game when you add this immersiveness to the new diagon alley and interactive wand experience. I'm getting a bit tired of this "Disney is better" sentiment. Let's be fair. Uni changed the game. Big time.
It's not even a real train. Doesn't matter though, it seems very believable. InsideTheMagic said it is more of a monorail system and everything else is special effects.
The_Frozen_Waffle I know that. It is very very similar to the monorail system which uses electricity to run. What I meant by real train is that it doesn't use steam or diesel. All the steam and sounds you hear are added.
This ride is a work of art.
The transition of music and reveal of the castle at 4:00...gives me chills every time.
Is that really Emma Watson doing hermione in the train? it doesn't sound like her too much. Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint sound on point!
I love this train journey at Unerversal. I did this about 8 time’s when I went to the park for 5 say. It is an awesome park with great rides
This is cool.. Except for the Hermione voice actor. She doesn't sound like Emma Watson at all. :( such a shame considering most Harry Potter fans like me will notice the difference.
Thinking the same they could of used the real voice because it looks a and sounds odd, but still looks good
I noticed too :/
It actually is the real cast :/ havent you seen the BTS?
I think thats ginny?!?!
Who else cried while watching this? ... Only a HP fan would know who I feel right now!!
It's kinda dumb looking from the outside. It literally goes like 20 feet, than reverses? What?
I'm glad I wasn't the only one lol
WoW I’m glad to hear someone else did too!!
oh what the hell! if they couldnt get emma watson to record 10 seconds of dialog for this thing, they could have atleast found a voice that sounds more like her... that would totally take me out of the experience.

StitchGV she said they didnt even ask her actually :/
I know this is a old video but all the negative comments have me angry. I just got back this weekend from there and this was my favorite part. OW OW OW THATS AMAZING! I WISH I COULD GO
No Matter how hard Universal Tries they will never become Disney
That is because they are working hard not to become Disney. A good move on Universal's part.
Jeff Kramer Only Disney always has and always will dominate theme parks. Because they know how to do it and they do it best, nobody can nor ever will top them.

That is awesome! Thank God I only live an hour away.. so heading there when I can!
Glad they put in the Night Bus! Love the walking thru the wall!
I am thrilled that this is not merely a train connecting the two parks. I kept thinking to myself, "Who would want to take a scenic train through Universal's back lot?"
Wow! I wasn't expecting that there would be cool effects on the train! Lol!
CAN'T WAIT TO RIDE IT!! Going when it's slower so no wait!
instead of windows, they put screens! wow great job!
Maybe someday when the technology is available they can make it to where all the scenes in the window have a sort of 3D perspective. Where you can look down and actually see what's below and all that. That would be brilliant! Still, excited to see this!!!

They did an amazing job with this ride, rode it last week!
Goliath has opened! Please make a new video for it. :D
I am literally in tears right now. This is amazing. Disney will never beat Universal.
Too bad my annual passes blocked out Universal's park and not Islands of Adventure instead. I won't be able to ride it until August!
This takes u from hogsmead (islands of adventure) to digon alley (universal studios)
And from digon alley to hogsmead
thanks for the video. if you could reshoot w less glare from the lights it would be awesome though
Thank you so much! I won't be able to get up there for a while and i was feeling left out on all the festivities.
Hey BJ what's up? Does Lydia know you're using her computer?
MrFirewolf18
Bah.. She don't know nuttin. Don'cha dare tell her or I'll come over and lick your forehead!
Eugh, alright my lips are sealed.
So, how far out does the train go on the track? And is it a real train or just a facade on wheels?
its a real train that moves and everything or else you wouldn't go anywhere.... whats the point in that
Actually, it's not a real train. though it's hard to tell. I watched a making of the whole location the other night and they made the train overseas, then shipped it to the park. It was molded into that shape, and then painted and scuffed to look well used. Same for the ride cars.

Why? This is more of a transportation system than a ride. There is no possible way for Universal to do a real version as it goes behind their backlit.
*backlot
noooo it transports you to islands of adventure much like the disney monorail transports you to another park ,its just harry potter themed......quit your bitching and watch a disney video

Just saying, that will never happen.
Looks really good that through the wall illusion.
I sat right next to the door and I saw rons face peeking in it was so cool he looked like he actually was there (from hogsmead to diagon alley)
Great pov, in 2 weeks time im going on the official Hogwarts express in great Britain, original name olton hall express from Preston to York its a full working steam engine
great thing about it is the official train from the film.
I wanna go back, it was the funnest place I've ever been to. You have to go on gringotts ride, it's the best roller coaster ever.
Watching Theme Park Review got me the urge to buy Rollar Coaster Tycoon 3, which BTW was on sale on Steam yesterday!
I took a train to hogwarts, but not back to homesmade. So thanks for posting this! X3
that is so cool. as a harry potter fan its awesome universal built a Harry potter theme park area
Such a well designed and thought out ride!
The mock ups are quite good really.
The real locomotive that was used as Hogwarts Castle aka: Olton Hall. Will be on display temp' for a year or two at the Studios experience nr London. Which will help it to be restored to mainline condition after it's temp new home.
definately my first agenda for Universal trip the hogwarts express
Why haven't you covered anything for Goliath???
ditto!
Robb's currently in Scandinavia on a TPR tour.
THIS THING IS AWESOME I NEED TO GO IN THAT RIGHT NOW HOLY MOTHER
For a HP fan this is amazing!!!
Thanks so much theme park reviews I am crying so hard I want to go on hogwarts train
Going this summer! SUPPER EXCITED! 😊
wow!!! can't wait to see this in a month!
I hope the train is in California 2,it's still being constructed hear.:3 I would totally go straight 4 the wall part!^^
That is the coolest concept for a ride ever
It's not really a ride. It takes you back and forth between the two parts of the Harry Potter parks.
Going back next summer can't wait!
This is just utterly amazing
Going there this October can't wait thanks for giving me am idea of what I will be like keep the amazing videos up !!
The effect at the start is pretty cool :p
omg can't wait for july 2016 i'm going back there the first time i went there the train wasn't done yet
I am not a harry potter fan, but the attraction is already made awesome. Does anyone know how long is the actual railway line?
Asuming the video captures only a fraction of seeing it irl I say Universal has done a great job. Little sad about the original actors not all doing their voice-overs but as a non diehard fan I can overlook that. The only thing I would note: The Kings Cross station needs more patina - it looks too new and clean.
I work at Universal Orlando and can't wait to ride this!
What section do you work at ;) ?
***** , Citywalk
Bruce Henson OK interesting thanks!
LITERALLY CRAPPED MYSELF WHEN THE DEMENTORS CAME! Both now and on the right

Looks Excellent!
Jesus...Hermiones voice is AWFUL! Oh Emma....wish you did it :/
ikr
the real hall is at the studios in London
0:55 is that Lou from Unboxing Therapy?
THE WALL... HE JUST TAN THROUGH.... MIND FUCKING BLOWN!!!!
That is a very awesome ride
i hate that the voice of hermione is not emma watson 2:08
may u try Canopy Flyer - Universal Studios Singapore its a roller coasteer
Looks so amazing!
We were standing at the back of the line and I introduced myself to this guy named Thomas and I told him my dad's company was based out of London England and my friends parents came back and he told us tell them Thomas sent you.
very cool! its like your in harry potter movie and the shadow.:D
i don't understand why everybody has to fight about two very different theme parks i love both equally…
Id like to see the MEDUSA STEEL COASTER POV
This is pretty cool. I'm curious, how do they make the Hogwarts Express work the way it does without an engineer or fireman? I mean you can't see anyone driving, the whistle is pretty much audio. Is there something eletrical running the train? Or is it just me?
Hi my dad works at universal studios there is a pully system under the train pulling it.
It's pretty creative. I understand why they did it without live steam. Too much of a hassle. I hope to go there one day!
+Irish Walter wellllllllllllllll it runs on accio hogwarts express =P
@ 2:11 was that Harry Ron and Hermione?
Universal Studios admission rates are just too high Universal should be half the price then any other theme park in the country
And why is that? Their theming is almost as good as Disney's.
WorldOfExcitementE i will keep on saying that
MrProTechHD
You need to open up to new parks. Disney isn't the only place. Universal's prices should be about the same as Disney's, which they are. At least Universal actually has thrill rides. WorldOfExcitementE Disney has more and BETTER thrill rides. The second part is just me though.
izryan Gaming
Actually Disney has more rides than Universal but Universal has MORE and BETTER thrill rides.
Fantastic! Can't wait to go on this! :)
The only thing that really sucks about the train ... I thought there would be a real trolly full of candy and stuff :(
R.I.P headphone users at 5:50
Do they mirror the video for the other side of the train or can you only sit on one side?
Where is this? I also want to do that! It`s sooooooooooo cool!
That isn't even Emma Watson's voice, I think that Harry and Ron's are legit though... Not sure.
Dan Radcliffe didn't come back to do Harry's voice, but at least the voice actor sounds like him. Rupert was the only one of the 3 that returned.
No
When Universal brings fireworks and world of color then we will sit down and talk
I'm a big train ride person, like I have to ride every train ride at a park or zoo. so naturally I want to ride that. it looks like so much fub
Well, I like the train.... But just to point out, the chugging noises at the beginning around 0:36 are ripped directly from trainz. :/
Really? Oh wow, didn't even notice, and I played trainz before? Damn! Cheaters! Not really a steam train then huh? Funicar anyone? ;)
Yeah.... doesnt sound like the real engine at all....... it wouldnt have been that hard to get a decent sound recording of a Hall class anyway.....
5972 ran a year ago. Seems like they could have gotten the sounds when they started the ride.
Wow! Is so nice ride! :) Sorry, I am watching this in my phone and I wanna.know where is this ride, can you tell me, please?
It's at Universal Studios in Florida.
OakViewFilms thanks! :)
While Universal has put a great deal of detail into this new themed section, too many of their attractions are video-based. You can watch TV at home. :(
i'm going to universal today!
I see both directions, what about both sides?
I'm 18 and I'd be terrified of the dementor part o.o
Some of the characteristics about the train just don't seem to add up, so I am wondering, any idea if that is a true steam engine or a modern hybrid/fake steam engine (hidden diesel, most often)?
the train is full electric with the simulation of steam/sound. nice attraction...
The321asdfff Many thanks, although that is rather disappointing to hear.
Oh. That must explain the automatic doors on the carriages.
The real one is in the UK at carlisle .
I'm pretty sure it's not even powered by the engine, but separate motors, just look when the train backs up into diagon alley, the wheels on the engine don't match up with the train.
0:24 I'm going to pretend I never saw that
Looks like a waste of a perfectly good GWR Castle Class locomotive - should be on the rails back in the UK where it belongs!!
It is this is just a replica, but stillnice to see it, I'm riding this in 2 weeks time the original one from the films from Preston to York.
I did always wonder why a GWR engine would run from Kings Cross to somewhere between Fort William and Mallaig, to a station with no visible runaround.
to begin with Harry Potter trademark does not even belong to Universal Warner bros is franchising Harry Potter out for a nice fee because Universal does not have any modern characters its a warner bros trademark , The Simpsons ride "Fox" Transformers the ride "Dream Works" Universal Studios lags in Attractions Harry Potter might be a slight boost that's about it

who cares....its fun.....get over it

If you carefully read what I wrote it says "not originally."
I have autism,so how loud is the score? I haven't been there yet.
ya that train is smaller then the money must of been in the budget the one is wider isnt there two sides to the train ?
The tech and creativity for the train animations and projections, the way the doors open if by magic, the charming Hedwig and thestral carriage animatronics, the peppers ghost effect for the platform wall...the "muggle" cast members that stare at you in curious blankness whenever you ask where platform 9 3/4 is...universal beat Disney at its own game when you add this immersiveness to the new diagon alley and interactive wand experience. Disney would have gotten Hermione's voice right.
Disney would have gotten Hermione's voice right.
Disney would have gotten Hermione's voice right.

Yeah dude it is more like a cable car.
Wow! A fully functioning classic British steam engine in America!
