And if jumbo weighs as much as four horses she needs *way* more food than that all four if my horses eat four/five hay bales a day. And you can clearly see the trainers using bull-hooks just to get them to lay down.
Those elephants looked magnificent! They were happily wagging their tails and were very well taken care of. It is not so much the size of an animal that determines its caloric needs, but its metabolism. Elephants normally have a very low metabolism, but as stated when working the diet was doubled. Obese animals are also unhealthy. Elephants are trained with bull hooks the same as horses are trained with whips and dogs with leashes. Just because the trainer has one, doesn't mean he is using it in an aggressive way. In fact you can see here the trainers just giving little nudges to certain parts of the body to direct the elephant. In the last circus train they put four elephants to a special carrying car, which was 89' long and about 7' wide. That is 156 sq ft per animal. They also stopped periodically to get the large animals out to let them walk around, and in summer the local fire departments would come out to hose them down--they loved it!!! So did the locals watching them frolic. You have no right to judge them just from watching this short film, in fact the evidence of the film shows how prejudiced, unjust, biased, hateful and harmful your ideas are.
